@Roomba please call 101 on these arseholes.

You have a moral obligation to call the police and report this. Lives are at stake.

Weregoingonanadventure and Reginabambina I grew up in the 80s and didn’t play out, nor did my friends. Not allowed out and about without an adult till 13 or so. We played at each others houses or in the park with an adult there. Same rules for all the children I knew. It was London so maybe more wary than other parts of the country.

I played out in the 70’s when we lived in a cup de sac but my kids have never played out, I don’t know of any kids who do, ever

Blewbell · 27/03/2020 13:54

The ones here are all having play dates. Like it was said upthread you can't fix stupid.

You can actually, but the cure is usually fatal.

We live on the edge of a small village. My 10 year old boy is getting cabin fever not being able to go exploring and clambering around 'the dens' he and his mates have made around the place in the woods.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 27/03/2020 14:28

No definitely not. I can't imagine any of their parents agreeing to it either.

DoctorSnortles · 27/03/2020 14:29

All kids here are in their gardens/indoors, except for siblings from down the road, who are riding their bikes around and playing in the street, which pisses me off as:

a. They aren't supposed to be playing out
b. My (only)child keeps getting upset because she usually plays with them and can see them out there, sailing past and waving, but she has to stay in our house and garden without any other kids to play with
c. The whole family always act as if they own the entire bloody road anyway - cars parked everywhere, goal posts in the street blocking traffic etc

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 27/03/2020 14:29

It is sad as I can hear our neighbours kids a couple of gardens down and my youngest had just recently started playing out on the little road with them

I read an interview of an Italian parent on the bbc last night - it was dated March 6th. She said all the parents were taking turns to look after a large band of kids. I imagine they are not doing that anymore and are looking back with disbelief.

The tragic thing is, many deaths from CV wouldn’t happen if people just did as they were instructed. I just don’t get why some people think it’s ok to carry on as normal. This situation is about as far from normal as you can get. I live in Cornwall - we had very few cases until tourists decided they knew better than any medical experts or scientists & descended on our county. Bumper to bumper on the A30! I despair.......

The Police powers were designed to deal with the mass meet ups seen on Mothers Day. Their workforce is as reduced as others due to the crisis, there aren't suddenly loads of officers available to pop round to tell people not to let kids in the street play together.

Calls like that just further stress an overwhemed force. Many are already having to tell people NOT to call with CV queries or 'reports'.

GabsAlot · 28/03/2020 15:31

azpprntly we're not supposed to snitch according to the other thread but you can report online now

Lumene · 28/03/2020 15:53
