Who is still ordering takeaway during this?

Has anyone during past 2 weeks ordered takeaways- perhaps even more then usual? I would've thought right now many considered this to be a very rare treat, especially being knackered during day with kids/no time to meal plan or have ingredients for many exciting meals.
But slowly Im seeing a trickling of even our major chains ie. GBK just now, Franca Manca earlier this week all saying they are fully shutting up shop.

Yes i have.

HathorX · 26/03/2020 13:48

We haven't as we have generally tightened our belts. I expect this is driving a lot of people's change in behaviour.

Whichoneofyoudidthat · 26/03/2020 13:50

Fewer, actually.

marblesgoing · 26/03/2020 13:50

I also can't believe takeaways are classed as essential to be honest.

They are slowly closing up in our area as most households are taking a financial beating so takeaways the bottom of the list.
It certainly is in my household anyway.

We are being told to only go out to excercise once a day and only go to the supermarket when needed and not loads and yet takeaways are constantly offering pick up points etc etc Hmm

I think the staff working in them would rather being losing 20% of their pay than being at risk

We are. Self isolating and couldn't get an online delivery slot.

Feeling like crap and knackered from trying to keep DS(4) entertained. When we've put DS 1 & 2 to bed I don't have the energy to think about what I can make with the odds and sods in the cupboard.

All our deliveries are contactless, the drivers knock on the window to let us know they've delivered, we wave from inside and once they've gone, we open the door.

IsolatedIzzy · 26/03/2020 13:55

I am, supporting my local pub, trying to help them keep going so they are still there when this is over!

Mysocalledlifexx · 26/03/2020 13:57

None havent had since jan, we will wait until this is getting better. The kids havent even asked for one & i need to healthy eat as im breast feeding so it isnt a bad thing that we have stopped eating them.

WhiteCat1704 · 26/03/2020 14:00

Dominos is oprerating contact free delivery and as delicious as ever..

oldwhyno · 26/03/2020 14:01

had one on Tuesday night. it was amazing. only one though so can't really tell if we'll be having more or less during quarantine. probably about the same.

namechangetheworld · 26/03/2020 14:02

I can't think of much worse right now than eating food that strangers have prepared in an unknown environment. It makes me feel sick. And I love a takeaway usually!

Lyricallie · 26/03/2020 14:04

Nothing for us but we live in the Highlands with no big chains etc. I think some of the hotels and pubs are still doing it. They rely so heavily on tourism we might get one when we normally never would just to help them tick over.

adiposegirl2 · 26/03/2020 14:06

No

inwood · 26/03/2020 14:06

Same as @namechangetheworld really cant think of anything worse and we usually have one a week.

Mamato2gorgeousboys · 26/03/2020 14:06

We’ve had 2 since the start of February. More of a treat and when we’re really knackered. We’re ordering less since the start of Corona and are making sure we are very careful with the packaging and hand washing. It’s the same as when we get our food shop delivered. We tend to order from small independents who have really taken a hit.

HelloDulling · 26/03/2020 14:10

We will have one tomorrow. I am absolutely exhausted trying to do all the things I usually do (working pt, housework etc etc) as well as the endless foraging for food, supervising school work, making sure kids get out for exercise and so on. My DH is high risk, so can’t do much. I really don’t want to make dinner tomorrow!

allaboardthesinkingship · 26/03/2020 14:17

We ordered pizza on Saturday from our local Italian. It's the best pizza I've had in my life and we're supporting local business which is important. It will be a rare treat tho as DH isn't working atm and is self employed so no money coming in

Daisy03 · 26/03/2020 14:24

Yes, we’re having more than normal, we are both working more hours as key workers, along with homeschooling.
We normally eat out at least once a week plus Pret lunches etc.
We’re making sure to order from small local businesses to help them stay afloat

maslinpan · 26/03/2020 14:27

We hardly ever have takeaways but it will support our local pubs and make us feel as if there's something to look forward to at the weekend.

marblesgoing · 26/03/2020 14:38

I totally get the families using them due to many of the reasons above and the contactless delivery but a lot of ours are setting time slots for people to turn up to pick up from outside Hmm
I know it's important to support small local business (I was one u til this week and my trade cannot be taken out at a distance therefore I can not work at all)but I'm not sure that getting people to unnecessarily go out in their cars is the best option.

Heard a women next to our house this morning on the phone to who I presume is her daughter to say she was on her way with some things for them. That they'd only been to Sainsbury's and tescos and a dog walk at the local park so we're fine Envy

AlternativeOpinion1 · 26/03/2020 16:15

Yep - Chinese once a week. Still collecting as it is only on the next street. I open the door with a tissue though and wash my hands before I leave and when I get in before I eat.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 26/03/2020 16:20

I feel so conflicted about it; we had sushi last Friday and it was absolutely magnificent, delivered, dropped on doorstep, driver texted me food was outside (even though we saw he’d dropped it).

We want to do the same again as they must be haemorrhaging cash but I wonder if we are actually adding to the problem with folk “having” to work through all this (albeit it’s a husband and wife team and that’s it, just the two of them).

I want the same sushi again tomorrow.

FamilyOfAliens · 26/03/2020 16:25

Yes - we are self isolating and won’t be allowed out until 6/04 so we had a curry Friday night and pizza last night. Normally have one a month or fewer.

viccat · 26/03/2020 16:26

Yes, although haven't done for the past week or so because I have enough food at home for now.

But in general, there is NO evidence you could catch coronavirus through food, so it's safe.

A lot of small businesses absolutely rely on people still ordering from them, too. None of the business support in place for now is enough to help them keep going if they have to shut for several weeks.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 26/03/2020 16:28

I will be tomorrow night as we’re moving house tomorrow and I can’t bear the idea of cooking on top empty everything else.

AnotherMurkyDay · 26/03/2020 16:32

Yes, not much choice when self isolating, no delivery slots and no food in the shops anyway
