Don't know for sure if its corona but I expect he will be tested now but I'm very worried, he has heart health problems so isn't healthy to begin with but now his oxygen sat levels are low so they've taken him in.

Just need a hand hold I suppose. I have to find the positives here, at least its before the peak so there are beds.

I was just reading an article about a man who is now home after being on a ventilator. He said he remembers waking up with the tube down his throat and lots of wires in him. Didn’t say anything about it hurting or being stressful. He did say he was unable to talk for a few days once the tube was removed as his throat was sore from having the tube down.
Would your mum be allowed to send in some laminated pictures of the family for him to have round his bed for when they wake him up?

Sorry me again. Just seen a clip from my local hospital of their first covid patient leaving to go home. He was admitted on 22 March and was on a ventilator for 12 days in ITU and then on a normal ward till he was well enough to leave. All the staff were clapping as he left. There are positive outcomes. X

Pictures sound like a good idea, hopefully that would be allowed. I figure they must be thinking he'll be coming off the ventilator in the next few days if they're starting to reduce sedation now so hopefully by next week he'll be on a normal ward.

The evening update said that more improvement today but not quite ready to be taken off, so must be thinking of taking him off even sooner than I thought!

Been following your thread, what a rollercoaster!
It does sound positive now tho, I'm so glad for you, I really hope things continue to improve Flowers

YakkityYakYakYak · 09/04/2020 17:59

So great to hear that he’s continuing to improve!

Noworrieshere · 09/04/2020 18:58

Checking in regularly for updates, we are all willing him on and hoping for steady progress for your dad. What a stressful time, I hope you're able to speak to him soon, you must be so desperate to talk to him.

Natsku · 09/04/2020 20:02

I am really looking forward to video calling him sometime hopefully soon. DS is missing his calls, usually my dad does a countdown and pretends to wriggle him like he did when he visited last and DS wriggles himself and giggles, and now he's started doing it randomly by himself and keeps talking about him.

How is your dad hun?

Natsku · 09/04/2020 21:26

Nothing new from earlier deblou, mum gets updates just twice a day, probably they are very busy so more frequent updates aren't possible. Really sounds like he is OK though.

So glad your df seems to have turned a corner. I don’t know if it’s been mentioned but paranoia and hallucinations are incredibly common in people coming out of intensive care. It happened to my mum - she thought she was being held captive by the nurses and that we were colluding with them. She saw the curtains dripping with blood and gore. It was horrendous.

We had no idea it was so common - but apparently it affects something like 50pc of IC patients. It lasted around 48 hours and then gradually she came back to her senses. I just want you to know I’m case it happens to your df so you don’t worry too much.

Natsku · 09/04/2020 21:56

Good to know. Hopefully won't happen with him but if it does hopefully he'll get through it ok. He's a very religious man so I'm sure he'll fall back on his faith to get him through whatever, seems to bring comfort to him normally.

Yes my aunt had hallucinations when she was in ICU (in her case I'm guessing it was the morphine) but they were harmless enough, she thought all the soap dispensers were wearing hats, that the fire exit sign was 'dancing' etc.

If its any reassurance OP when I visited my aunt in ICU (a few years ago now) it was very calm despite them being stretched to capacity. The skill and expertise of the staff was fantastic, I felt so much more confident about her care in ICU than I did on the normal ward. My aunt was conscious most of the time but I observed just as much care and attention to those who were heavily sedated/ unconscious (nurses talking to them as they pottered about the bay etc), they did really humane things like moisturise the patients limbs, things I wouldn't have thought of given how high tech most of the treatments are.

Natsku · 10/04/2020 09:47

That's really reassuring to know, thanks camopetals

More improvement, they've reduced support more and he's taking breaths himself now but still not ready to be taken off the ventilator. Still has fever going up and down so trying to find a possible cause of that, maybe another secondary infection, so they can treat it.

LuluJakey1 · 10/04/2020 19:43

That's such good news.

Toybox88 · 11/04/2020 06:17

Is he still improving?

Natsku · 11/04/2020 06:35

Hopefully. Won't get an update for a few hours yet but I feel confident now that he's turned the corner and will keep improving.

OP posts:
Natsku · 11/04/2020 11:52

He's still stable, they're not going to try and progress him any more today to give him a rest but they've changed his antibiotic and antifungal meds to see if new ones will work better.
