Apparently, it arrived by text and "they" are tracking mobile phone movements to know when we go out.

Part of me thought, "that's a good idea". Another part, "surely not"

It's not true is it, but maybe it should be? Or a gross innovation etc ...

OP posts:
LIZS · 26/03/2020 09:31

Suspect it is a scam.

YangShanPo · 26/03/2020 09:31

This can't be true how would they know it's not for work or to help a vulnerable person. Stricter rules may come in but for now it would be impossible to know. If a text does come through it's probably a scam.

thatgingergirl · 26/03/2020 09:32

I think that's a scam too.

Makeitgoaway · 26/03/2020 09:32

Oh, it never occurred to me that he might actually have received a text! I assumed the whole story was nonsense!

Paddingtonthebear · 26/03/2020 09:32

LOL, of course it’s a scam

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/03/2020 09:32

It's fake. I've seen this doing the rounds on Facebook.

I had two policemen standing in my garden banging on my patio door yesterday - I thought they had come to fine me for being out on my mobility scooter on Monday (to go to doctors) but no, wrong house.

If the virus doesn't get me, the heart attack will.

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/03/2020 12:45

Scam OP. FS needs to tell his friend to check his bank asap if he's clicked on the link or paid the bloomin thing. People are awful.

tenlittlecygnets · 26/03/2020 12:49

It's a scam. Same appeared on our local FB page last night. But honestly, apply some critical thinking: the phone companies are not allowed to sell info like this to the govt.

The police have better things to do than track down people - by phone - who are going out.

Not everyone takes their mobile when they leave the house, so how could their movements be tracked?

And we are allowed to leave for various reasons. How are the phone companies meant to know what we're doing when we are out of the house?!

iVampire · 26/03/2020 12:54

The police aren’t going to user surveillance powers.

It’ll be stop/check/educate for at least the first couple of days

But if people are going out 3x a day without good reason, they need to cut it out now

bronzedgoddessORabronzedturkey · 26/03/2020 12:55

The tech companies are sharing some analytics with the police, in so much as - their location data is showing lots of individuals are at x location (eg park, beach), which means police can be sent there to disperse if needed. They are NOT sharing individual info like Mrs Harris has moved 5ft from her back gate 4 times today.

FredaFrogspawn · 26/03/2020 12:56

I posted about this yesterday. 100% scam.

Deelish75 · 26/03/2020 13:04

Well if the government are working with the supermarkets to find out who is vulnerable (ensuring they get delivery) then I can definitely see the police working with the phone companies to track who is taking the piss.

Cohle · 26/03/2020 13:08

Tracking your phone wouldn't work though. You're allowed out to shop, exercise, help the vulnerable, work if necessary etc etc. That could easily be three trips. It's obviously not true in the slightest.

strawberrylipgloss · 26/03/2020 13:10

In some EU countries Google is providing governments with anonymised data about whether people are complying with lockdowns. The UK government was only at the consideration stage last time I heard.

It's a scam - sorry

iVampire · 26/03/2020 13:14

Deelish

Do you know how to access that help? I note you said supermarkets (plural) and it would be brilliant if I could find a way to have priority booking (or weekly reserved that works)

Right now I don’t seem able to get through to anyone. So which bit of the government is going this, and how does one get through to if?

(Yes I’ve registered on the hub, but could only find a set of yes/no questions, and no way to raise other issues)

TheGreatWave · 26/03/2020 13:19

I went out yesterday and didn't take my phone.

Have fun tracking that. Grin

hardboiledeggs · 26/03/2020 13:24

Heard about this, think its a scam. Wouldn't be overly surprised if it was true our phone listen to everything we do.

Jourdain11 · 26/03/2020 13:26

Mrs Harris has moved 5ft from her back gate 4 times today.

🤣🤣🤣

diddl · 26/03/2020 13:41

Sounds like a scam.

Most people won't have left multiple time or if they have it will be for legit reasons so they will know straight away that it doesn't apply to them.

Deelish75 · 26/03/2020 14:07

@iVampire

I recieved an email from Sainsbury's at the weekend stating I had been prioritised for delivery, was a bit confused as account is in my name and I have no underlying health issues. My DP (who lives with me) has the NHS annual flu jab so we presumed it's because of that. The email stated Sainsbury's were "working with government" (presume Dept. For Health/NHS) to identify vulnerable people. The same statement was on Sainsbury's website earlier in the week. And someone either on here or Facebook mentioned that Tesco were doing the same.

That email was sent on Sunday before the shielding list was published (DP's condition isn't on it)and since then Sainsbury's website is telling me I don't qualify as priority I haven't had a new email to clarify this so fuck knows what's going on with them. I don't need to do my weekly shop until Saturday so if I can't get a slot I'll go to the store. I believe things are calming down in store, limiting amount of customers and lots of social distancing.
I believe you have to fill something in on gov.uk but don't know the full details, apparently it's on the letter sheilded people received/are receiving this week.

Good luck getting a slot.

inthedarkx · 26/03/2020 15:56

Ha ha ha made me laugh that's funny

RishiSunakFanClub · 26/03/2020 16:11

The police are welcome to try to track my mostly un-charged PAYG mobile which is not connected to the internet.
