People angry at others exercising within the guidelines

CochonDinde · 24/03/2020 22:57

Has anyone else seen such behaviour? All day I've seen posts commenting on people 'walking about' and absolute venom spouted at their 'selfish behaviour' as they should be staying at home Hmm I'm all for following government guidelines, but this is exactly what these people are doing! Stretching their legs or going for a run. I saw one woman who was foaming at the mouth as apparently she'd seen a cyclist go by - the sheer horror of it!! Am I missing something? I don't get it. Or is it just the (nobhead) mentality of my small town?

We need to remember mental heath issues and obesity costs us a lot of tax money.

Many ppl get annoyed with others who go out more than once "exercising"... Just plain rule breaking... Its not cool.

GrumpyHoonMain · 24/03/2020 23:09

A lot of people on MN don’t understand exercisers on a good day and you will see lots of posts like ‘bmi 40 is just a bit overweight’. Honestly I am grateful we are able to exercise it keeps my body and mind healthy.

AFireInJuly · 24/03/2020 23:12

I agree. Exercise is important for good lung capacity/function. If people lose it and/or become deconditioned by staying at home all the time they will be at higher risk of complications from the virus. Going for a run, cycle etc is low risk as long as you keep your distance from others.

SarahTancredi · 24/03/2020 23:16

No I dont understand it either

This competition about who is better at staying at home is ridiculous

If I stood out in the garden I'd be closer to far more people than when I went out for a walk where i was able to stay basically a fields length away from people.

Amd yes of course there are more people than usual because the pools gyms and football clubs etc where they would normally be are all bloody closed.

As long as people respect the 6ft rule they are surely ok?

I'm going out for a run with dd1 tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it. I dont run usually but as I'm.not working i dont get my walks that working would usually entail. We live in the same house so I can be next to her Hmm

I saw a load of people be utter dicks to someone who asked if they could take their dog out twice as they never see another person when they go out.

I mean seriously...if you are alone in a field with no one around you for miles then wtf is the problem. I mean u gotta apply some sense surely

Choo975 · 24/03/2020 23:36

People are just getting angrier and angrier by the day and no wonder stuck in the house all day

Opendraw · 24/03/2020 23:40

I went for a walk today with DD we went single file while passing on narrow paths some walkers and runners did not so could not maintain 2m really annoyed me. So please do go single file while passing on narrow paths. For this reason I saw my 2 elderly neighbours up on a hill struggling through the under growth !!

StormyClouds · 24/03/2020 23:57

I think it is quite clear there are a lot of head prefect types on here who are revelling in the opportunity to tell people off for being naughty and grass them up.

LonginesPrime · 25/03/2020 00:03

^ This.

And also the fact that everyone's panicking and their inner vigilante is coming out because they are scared and would love to be able to control other people's behaviour for what they perceive to be their own and others' benefit.

Please read this and think again.

StormyClouds · 25/03/2020 00:09

@AlexaAmbidextra

We cannot and should not have nurses dictating when we can and can't leave the house.

How interesting that instead of seeing the utterly hideous reality of the situation your prime concern is that you object to being told what to do. Hmm

By a NURSE as well!

Crafting1Queen · 25/03/2020 00:27

@AlexaAmbidextra

Thank you for posting the link to that thread. I have just finished reading it and could weep. One of my posts got removed (from some Moron who wanted to be able to drive to a secluded wood to walk) because I knew what was coming. Enough people are going to (needlessly) die as it is, without selfish, arrogant, entitled people saying to hell with the rest of you, you can't tell me what to do & I'm alright jack. I'm (a) medically retired ex-emergency service personnel, if I get it, I will die. I've already had one run in with the Grim Reaper, and fought like hell to send him packing, I doubt I'll be able to do so a second time. My sibling is currently nursing Covid 19 Patients in ICU, so is also putting their own life at risk caring for these desperate patients, but also that of their spouse and children. I despair.

DameFanny · 25/03/2020 00:28

Well said Alexa

Crafting1Queen · 25/03/2020 00:32

of the attitudes on some posters on here, never mind the behaviours of people IRL refusing to heed all the information and advice we have been, are being given.

Cissyandflora · 25/03/2020 00:42

@StormyClouds what an absolutely foolish comment. All of you agreeing with the op here are the ones who should be ineligible for nhs treatment.

BeetrootRocks · 25/03/2020 00:48

Hold on so people who stick to what govt has said should be ineligible for NHS treatment for anything?

If a family goes for a walk in an empty field as per guidelines then they should all be ineligible for NHS treatment of any kind?

Yes OP you're right people are getting weird.

Whenwilligrowup · 25/03/2020 00:58

I took my two boys out late this afternoon on our one (allowed!!!) walk of the day in our little village. We went near absolutely nobody- if we did see someone coming we kept a wide berth , and vice versa!
Am I a moron??!!!
That one short walk a day, breathing in the fresh air, stretching my legs, getting outside and burning off a bit of steam for my boys is what's saving my sanity. We are putting nobody at risk Confused

CochonDinde · 25/03/2020 07:17

Ah, it's made it's way to the thread also. Where I live it's very quiet, lots of fields and walks where you can easily keep the 2m distance. People who break government advice are absolute nobs.

So by strictly sticking to government advice I shouldn't be allowed NHS treatment? This virus is bringing out the lovely side of some..

People who live a sedentary lifestyle or who usually look for excuses not to exercise don’t understand why it’s so important to those who do. Because they’re glad for an excuse not to leave the house or be active, they think they’re justified in being angry at those who still want / need to exercise.

It also shows a deplorable lack of understanding about mental illness, and the beneficial effects of exercise on mental health.

Everyone in the country would benefit significantly from one walk / run / cycle etc outside every day, which is why the government specifically allows it.

I won’t be made to feel bad about going for one run a day (where I rarely see a single other person and am perfectly capable of keeping out of their way if I do) when it’s one of the key things keeping my mental health from taking a very rapid nosedive.

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 25/03/2020 07:54

Get a grip.

A week ago. I had to go out everyday to work. I had to go to the shops most days, because by the time I finished work, there was nothing left. Because I didnt stockpile, we couldnt survive for a week or 2 with what I had.

I am now WFH, and have managed to get shopping.

The only time I will be leaving the house, is for daily exercise and about once every 2 weeks for food.

I am barely leaving the house. I can go for a walk in the field next to my house, where I can stay several hundred meters away from anyone, though theres rarely anyone else there.

Keeping the kids and me healthy, with good lung function, is important.

Daily exercise is important to health, which is why it's an exemption. When this has been going on a couple of month, who do you think will be a bigger burden on the nhs. People who have maintained good mental and physical health. Or those that think they are superior by only walking more than 3 feet, to get food once every 2 weeks.

Being incredibly unfit, isnt going to help anyone.

Exercise is important. Theres absolutely no reason, you cant do it and maintain social distancing.

foamrolling · 25/03/2020 07:59

My sister is a nurse. Her ward has been turned into a coronavirus ward in fact so she's right on the front line. When I was chatting to her on messenger yesterday she said she'd been out for a walk and it had really helped her with her growing anxiety about the situation. If she feels walking within the guidelines is acceptable that says a lot.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 25/03/2020 08:03

Going for a walk is the new ‘tradesman’s shit’ on Mumsnet. No one I see in real life is struggling - they simple take themselves or their family out for a daily walk and observe social distance.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/03/2020 08:09

Yes, yet again people are being shown to be completely lacking in common sense. We have morons doing one extreme or the other the last couple of weeks. Honestly, some of you need to have a word with yourselves

AvonBarksdale99 · 25/03/2020 08:10

If you go out for a walk/run and don’t go near anyone how are you spreading the virus exactly?
