Do the government know if people have been out more than twice

Obviously I’m following the guidelines but was wondering if there is anyway of them knowing who isn’t?

OP posts:

Rufus
Interesting that it's been done in only specific areas though. Suggests local rather than national, government involvement.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/03/2020 22:28

The police are more concerned about breaking up groups of people rather than monitoring how many times individuals leave their house.
I don’t have a mobile phone and nobody tracked me today on my walk around the block and trip to put the bins out.

Dances · 24/03/2020 22:35

The point is that the ability to be surveilled is generally self inflicted.

The goverment are not currently mass monitoring our phones to see if we leave the house twice.

However, if we start receiving requests to download CV government apps, that could well be the means to begin monitoring us all.

Beware of bloody apps.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/03/2020 22:38

Oh no now thats funny dances

A friend forwarded an app asking for my corona symptoms on a daily basis even if i feel well

Apparently it will slow the spread...though ive no fucking idea how

LastTrainEast · 24/03/2020 22:41

The government would have asked the mobile network companies to send out the text to everyone. The company has to know your number doesn't it. There is no special significance to when you got it.

Dances · 24/03/2020 22:43

Yes you need to wipe that Rufus.

That's what the Chinese goverment did to trackball it's people. China iof course not being a democracy with laws re freedom. Honestly though, apps are dangerous.

Dances · 24/03/2020 22:45

Well no, the service providers could effectively broadcast to any active phones in each cell

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/03/2020 22:52

No...i know

I know I’m not special 😩

There was something on Sky news the other night about phone providers giving tracking data to the government so that they had an idea of how their new measures were working. It’s random and they aren’t giving any personal details it’s just so they have a subset of data to quantify how many were staying home and how many were still going about as normal. In his press conference BoJo said most of us are doing the right thing and staying home. This is how they know, not from media reports. But they aren’t tracking individuals or so they say. In Korean one mans phone ran out of battery and an hour later the police were at his door looking for him. Safe to say we aren’t there yet.

Scruffyoak · 24/03/2020 23:00

Drove to work and back. Did not see anyone. Went for a walk about 5pm. Saw someone in distance. No police at all anywhere nearby.

Scruffyoak · 24/03/2020 23:01

Well home carers like me go several places a day plus delivery drivers....that would be useless info to track.

middleager · 24/03/2020 23:10

Not had any texts in our house.

What is this text. What does it say?

amandalives · 24/03/2020 23:35

@middleager 'GOV.UK CORONAVIRUS ALERT New rules in force now: you must stay at home. More info & Exemptions at gov.uk/coronavirus Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.'

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/03/2020 23:43

Careful with those texts. Could be a scam. DP got 2 today, first one was government advice. Second one was to tell him he had breached the rules and now owed 30 quid which would be taken from his next bill 🤔 he was in the house all day. Fuckers will use anything to scam money out of people.

PicturesOfCats · 25/03/2020 01:44

And again, who is 'they'?

We can’t tell you, they might be watching...

MissyJane2 · 25/03/2020 04:20

Sadly I don't think they have the manpower to enforce. Hence my mum's mate (both in their 70s) will still be coming round on Thursday as planned. Because "who's going to know??

Well they won't. Just don't tell anybody and keep your curtains drawn if you have got nosy neighbors.

PlomBear · 25/03/2020 10:48

I’m sure some MNetters are wetting themselves with glee at the thought of “reporting” neighbours.

SlayB · 25/03/2020 11:30

I wish I could report my neighbours oldies that feel they have the right to swan about where ever and when ever they want.

Still meeting people everyday they walk to visit neighbours. No shopping just chit chatting. Then they take other peoples dogs for walks (they do not own a dog) they also have their grandchild over.

BubblyBarbara · 25/03/2020 12:37

Yes because I’m worried about the risk of people dying. I’m sure some people couldn’t care less about other people’s safety..

I have suggested that the vulnerable such as these who put themselves at risk should sign DNR’s.

Then they can crack on in the knowledge that they won’t be adding to the NHS burden.

Reckon most of them would start following the rules then though....

madcatladyforever · 25/03/2020 12:50

My neighbours would dob me in for sure. But I don't go out except to work.

sunfloweryy · 25/03/2020 12:57

I’m going out again today. Went to the supermarket earlier to get some food in (have been making do the last few days but desperate now) and there was a fucking massive queue. That I didn’t have time to wait in as I only get a 30 min lunch break. Starting to wish I’d stockpiled now this is starting to get really annoying. Can’t do a big shop cause we aren’t allowed/half the aisles are empty and can’t go daily without having to queue. This is just nuts.

PlanDeRaccordement · 25/03/2020 13:19

Of course they CAN track your movements. Thing is the police have more important things to do so they don’t watch everyone constantly. But if they wanted to, they could watch you.

WhoWants2Know · 25/03/2020 13:23

I think they can tell via mobile phone data how much people are moving around

WhoWants2Know · 25/03/2020 13:27

Wasn't there legislation in the last couple of weeks where phone networks had to allow the government to access certain data? It coincided with mobile network outages in lots of places.

It can't be too hard to tell where people are congregated, in the same way that google maps can register a traffic jam where several phones are motionless.
