Why do you need one? If you suspect yourself of harbouring CV you need to stay in. If you're defending yourself from CV, a mask is ineffective, so you should be staying in.

If they are so ineffective why are the NHS staff wearning them or asking to be provided with them? But yeah, best thing is just stay at home.

I imagine that if they're dealing with CV sufferers, they are classed as a risk re passing it on.

Ecjhart so I let my blind, Autistic, vulnerable Son die of starvation then? Nobody to help us shop. Must be nice in your perfect world.

The principle is the same isnt it. They cannot pass it on unless they contract it and so they are wearning masks to stop getting it. Im not saying everybody should wear a mask because clearly they need to be given to the NHS as highest priority.

The type of mask and all the PPE being worn by frontline medics are a specific type, not any old mask!

Do a bit of googling on PPE if you want to know what type to buy

OP, are you expecting a letter from the government for food parcel help? It sounds as if your son may be on the most vulnerable list. Perhaps check into that so that you don't have to go out.

FFP2 or FFP3. But they're difficult to get hold of. Some branches of wickes still had the reuseable ones last week.

Any covering of your face will potentially reduce exposure a little bit

Try screwfix and tool station daily or other hardware stockists.

For all those saying masks don’t help, read this www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3074351/coronavirus-can-travel-twice-far-official-safe-distance-and-stay

OP why would your son die of starvation? If you cannot go out to get supplies there are groups of Facebook dedicated to shopping for those who cannot go out themselves.

Or do you have family, friends or neighbours who could shop for you?

It's common sense if I don't have any help I have to go out and buy our food.

Just wanted to know what type of mask is best. Not told I don't need a mask.

Corona support groups are springing up very quickly, it has to be worth checking your local FB pages to seek help.

Any mask that is effective should be reserved for frontline HCP.

I feel for OP, but, difficult as their situation is, it doesn't warrant

Must be nice in your perfect world

to a complete stranger, nor the suggestion that a complete stranger has implied that she let her son starve. Not a lot of 'peace and love' in these statements.

I don't understand why this comment wasn't removed too, and have requested that it will be.

@SoleBizzz no need to give people an attitude like that. If you want help than you need to explain the situation fully. And yes, the masks are deemed as ineffective so not sure how they will help you shop. If you have to isolate then you cannot be out in the shops

I thought that if you wore a face mask incorrectly it can actually cause more harm than good?

Aww Sole BrewFlowers

It's a worry. I don't think masks protect but I don't think they're a bad thing as they remind people to keep their distance.

Gloves offer much better protection.
Masks in themselves are not particularly effective
But do wear gloves.
