Booking multiple delivery slots is pretty selfish?

Yorvictor130 · 22/03/2020 23:05

I think it’s actually on par with the panic buyers.

I see so many MNetters saying they have reserved a slot every week for online food delivery, is this not just as selfish as panic buying hundreds of toilet rolls? Why do you get to hog all the delivery slots. It seems to be something that people let slide on here.

Nobody can get a delivery slot for the foreseeable now and there’s people with multiple ones all to themselves. Is there not something wrong with that?

We've got a shop arriving today, and then none till 13th April. Ideally we'd like a weekly shop. My husband is classed as vulnerable. The shop today is massive.

OntheWaves40 · 25/03/2020 07:26

Most supermarkets are asking delivery slots to be left for the vulnerable

1278kj · 25/03/2020 07:27

I booked 3 slots for 3 weeks in a row a couple weeks ago.. do feel a little guilty now and I may cancel 1 or 2 but hear me out.. I get my shopping delivered weekly at the same time so I always book in advance anyway. I also have to book in advance during the Easter holidays every year (as well as Christmas and summer) as they slots go fast.

I rely on online shopping at the best of times. Nearest large supermarket is 13 miles away. I have row children with autism and my partner works long hours and still has to go to work despite all this.

katienana · 25/03/2020 07:28

I've got a slot for 6th April there is hardly anything available to put in the basket on the first place! Definitely cant rely on online shopping. Even the bastard hair dye I put on my basket has gone!

1278kj · 25/03/2020 07:28

And I’m
Not panic buying. Just getting my normal weekly shop. I spend about £100 a week with them as it is..

duckme · 25/03/2020 07:29

I would have though once a week would be acceptable. That's how often most people go food shopping. Then these people are, hopefully, buying what they need to last a week and not doing a massive bulk shop now, spreading out what is being bought.

1278kj · 25/03/2020 07:39

Also, just to add my local Tesco store (not sure if it applies to every store) are limiting every online order to 80 items so can’t even stock up for two weeks if you have a big family!

KatherineJaneway · 25/03/2020 07:43

I shop weekly online and have done for years. I have a slot booked this week and next week but nothing after that (these slots were booked weeks and weeks ago). I am OK with shopping in store after that. Went to my Tesco basket last night and quite a lot of items are not available, mainly concerned about cat food and cat litter.

Barbie222 · 25/03/2020 07:50

I thought this. I haven't booked any. Sounds like the goods are broadly back in the stores now anyway.

stepbackfromthecircles · 25/03/2020 07:51

I normally have two deliveries a week due to being disabled, so I cannot drive, and the fridge not being big enough. Sainsbury's have said I can't have slots as I don't identify as in their category unless I call their number. I haven't been able to get through for two days. I now have three slots booked with Asda as I have to make sure I am covered. It is just a bizarre time and everyone is doing their best to get through it.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 25/03/2020 07:53

I cancelled this weeks slot as I didn't need it but I have kept next weeks and the week afters as I probably will, I am a regular Tesco online customer who shops weekly with them

PowerslidePanda · 25/03/2020 07:59

I think they should release slots 6 weeks ahead and limit to one per household every 3 weeks or less now.

I have a condition that makes me vulnerable and am depending on online shopping. I also have baby twins who devour more formula in a week than the supermarkets will let me buy. That's a big enough problem for us as it is, and if the shops took your suggestion then we'd only be able to buy 1/6th of the formula we need, FFS! Babies can't just muddle through with whatever ingredients you can got hold of Angry

ProfessorPootle · 25/03/2020 08:04

I agree, I’ve not managed to get a single delivery slot over the last 3 weeks, I only wanted one! Have been ill with v high temperature and couldn’t leave the house, better now thankfully. Have managed to get a click and collect today then nothing for another 3 weeks.

Helpwithaversion · 25/03/2020 08:06

We have always booked 2 slots each week so I don’t feel it’s selfish to continue that as we aren’t doing anything differently to usual and have a large family
Was lucky to get them though. Only one so far cancelled but that was the week we had a third just in case so worked out fine. We are actually buying less due to limits on items we usually get more of as a big family so I’m sure it evens out plus we have at risk members so do need to avoid going out

TabbyMumz · 25/03/2020 08:06

There seems to be a trend where if people havent been organised and done stuff so as their family can eat, they can tell everyone else, who has been organised, that they are selfish. Such like the shopping. There was a big lead up to all of this, and people could have believed they wouldnt be able to get out and about for months on end, so they stock up. Then those who havent, call them all the names under the sun. I'm not being funny, but if you have children, you know they need to eat, you know they might need calpol and milk. You know it was likely we would be on lockdown. Why did people leave these things to last minute.

fishonabicycle · 25/03/2020 08:10

I have a weekly reserved slot with Ocado. Although I can't get on the bloody site to sort the order out. Myself husband and 19 year old son have to self isolate now for another 10 days as son came home from Cambodia at the weekend.

KatherineJaneway · 25/03/2020 08:19

I managed to load the Ocaso web page yesterday to be told I was 16,898 in the queue 🤣

Baaaahhhhh · 25/03/2020 08:24

Something to piss you all off. Elderly relies with multiple health issues were on lists of vulnerable shoppers with two supermarkets. They got a slot with both yesterday and had both delivered together. They were very embarrased but have shared their extra milk out. They also have a frozen delivery booked this week. Great for them, and they are set for weeks, as we also bought them a freezer, but they do feel guilty.

They will donate anything extra to their local community help group.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 25/03/2020 08:28

TabbyMumz

I agree

It was very obvious early on that online shopping would book up quickly.

ProfessorPootle · 25/03/2020 08:36

In my area Waitrose / Sainsbury’s / Asda / Tesco have no delivery or click and collect slots for the next 3 weeks, has been like this for the last 3 weeks. Have a son with severe asthma but have to go into the shops. Have another son with multiple allergies and a restricted diet and can’t get most of his food. It’s not about ‘not being organised’, in this area there has been nothing online available, I had a weekly delivery then they all disappeared and there are none.

Peanut55 · 25/03/2020 08:43

Normal weekly shop. I have a delivery pass. I have a recurring slot, have done for a long long time. I did notice that I had to "checkout" sooner than normal to keep my slots. Which I have done.

I don't class this as selfish when my shopping now is actually for 3 other households as well. My parents in law, one of which is now sheilded and a neighbour who can't get to the shops. I deliver the shop to them. We have to work out the shopping between us as you are only a maximum of 3 on any items and stock is also scarse on online shop.

Emmacb82 · 25/03/2020 08:43

Just keep looking. I’ve been trying to get a slot for the last week and a half, pretty much checking every hour and was getting really annoyed as nothing was coming up. We are self isolating so can’t go out ourselves at the moment. Finally last night managed to get one with Asda. Probably just luck but it’s worth it to keep checking and checking because something might come up eventually x

lanbro · 25/03/2020 08:47

On a normal week I get at least one Iceland delivery and several Amazon Prime Now deliveries, was very frustrating not being able to get a slot at all when I'm such a regular customer. Luckily, for reasons unknown, Sainsbury's deemed me a vulnerable customer so I was able to get a slot on Sunday for delivery Monday. I haven't booked anymore and I hope I wont need to as am well stocked now despite not panic buying or bulk buying.

marble11 · 25/03/2020 08:49

I shop online weekly with Tesco and I have done for years. I always book 3 weeks in a row. My Nan has her shop combined with mine. I don't give a shit what others think.

nomdefuckit · 25/03/2020 08:52

I don't feel guilty.

We're in for the 12 weeks, possibly longer. If my husband gets it, it will probably kill him.

I can't go out
