Is anyone looking at the British public this weekend and thinking FFS lock us down! lock us down now and hard!

Are people really that thick to think that whats happened to poor china, Italy and Iran, cant happen to us.

Our government have seen it coming and done nothing. Other than protect the economy cos that's more important than lives and our NHS. We should have been in lockdown from friday.

I walked to my local shop (CoOp) late morning today. I passed a couple of people on my route there/back and we all moved such that we were apart as far as possible without walking in the middle of the road.
There was some vehicle traffic but quite minimal.
In the store people were keeping apart as much as they could, only getting the few items they needed not buying everything in sight.

So is a full lockdown necessary... not in my area, yet. I do though see some photos posted on social media of crowds at opening time of some supermarkets... that's not good. I have heard from my relatives (who live near beaches) about how busy the beach was, thus they went home again very quickly. So YES I think people do need to be told more specifically about what is acceptable and what is not.

I live in England. If I was in Scotland I would be deemed to be a Category 1 Key Worker. In England I'm not sure what I would be and I don't have ID which would be suitable for getting though a checkpoint if ever those were setup. So full lock down, maybe but how would it work?

I'm not sure full lockdown is needed, but I think that the government need to make clear exactly what is meant by social distancing, and the shops and other businesses need to put measures in place to enforce it.

Yes I feel exactly the same, the scenes at snowdon yesterday and the coast were just unbelievably sad.

I will despair if we are not on some kind of lockdown after tonight's press conference Sad

Theyve spent so long tell people most people will only have it minor and we can beat this by washing our hands unless its a full lockdown with penalties noone will take it seriously

The problem is that without full lockdown, tons of people think it doesn't apply to them, will bend the rules etc. And they're the ones putting others lives at risk, so I don't think there's an option. The government has fucked this right up.

Lockdown can't come soon enough for me. Yes, it will be a pain in the arse but the sooner we do it, the sooner it will pass.

I wonder if this was the governments plan, to stage it like this delayed so that when they announce it most of the population are actually willing for it to happen?

I agree. We really do need to be locked down!

The pictures of the crowds at the seasides, crowded into to small spaces, kids in play grounds.... just today someone sent me a video of them waiting outside a Tesco's for it to open, doing their mums (who they live with) shopping because she is high risk and they 'can't take any chances with her health', and there was easily over 100 people there all bunched together. She thought it was hilarious but for goodness sake THAT IS NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING! it's standing inches from completely unknown people. Then my elderly DGM asking to be taken to a large shop because she fancies looking for some new makeup and maybe at some new clothes because why should she be kept in doors? I despair!

Just introduce a complete lockdown and be done with it, the general population are too stupid/ignorant/selfish to think for themselves.

I just said to DP I reckon lockdown tonight/first thing tomorrow morning, and I think it needs to be.

I live in an area where there is a quite a bit teenage anti-social behaviour and their parents don't care - it was a police officer that said that to me. Now the schools have finished there are going to a few kids just left roaming/causing trouble. As last week went on I was noticing more teenagers congrating in the local park as my DC and I walked home from school, we'd already been told to socially distance by that point.

A beach in West Sussex had to be shut down yesterday and Snowdonia was overrun, and the local health services are terrified.

We've had kids spitting and coughing on people in this area and laughing about it Angry

Yes and it can't come soon enough. People are either stupid, entitled, don't care or think the advice doesn't apply to them.

The term 'go out for essentials only' has never been so twisted by every man and his dog, even my friend who I thought was on board with the whole thing came out with a few eyebrow raising comments today.

I wish the bumbling buffoon Borris would hurry it up.

Do we have enough police resource to enforce a lockdown?

Unless they involve the military (which they may have to) I think it would be hard to enforce. You'd need a copper on every street corner.

I've had my Dad locked down with me since Monday and it really doesn't help us rub along that he's getting constant texts from his pals having a lock in at the fucking pub.

I really feel like the govt don't want to enforce a lockdown yet so that the virus can spread to more of the population in order for the herd immunity to kick in. That's the only reason I can think of as to why they havent done it yet.

There can't be a full lockdown unless you are ok managing without food, water, power and medical care (and 50 other things you take for granted)

A stronger encouragement to stay at home IS needed though. You'd think being told that they may die would work, but it doesn't seem to.

My tiny hamlet is heaving with ramblers and dog walkers. Normal weekends it is dead. The neighbours opposite are having an impromptu party.

The woods near me are heaving as mentioned on my local face book pages. It is generally like a big bank holiday jamboree.

People do not realise they are walking around with an invisible bomb that will kill people.

I'm going into work on Monday to look after the children of key workers. Many of these parents would much rather have their children at home, as they know how fucking terrifying this disease is. Sad

Meanwhile a stupidly large amount of the population aren't listening to the warnings, and are instead treating this like an extended Easter half term. Angry

Yes, I think we need a full lockdown.

Too many people either don’t understand the severity, don’t think the rules apply to them or spend their time looking for loopholes so they can carry on doing what they want.

I agree. I'm in the West Midlands, a hot spot. The supermarkets are dire, yet my relatives in affluent part of Bristol say it's fine there.

I don't think some people see what's really happening out there.

I live in a popular tourist area. I've seen countless large family groups strolling along today, grandmas arm in arm with their DDs etc.

Selfish, ignorant fools.

I've just been to try and walk my dogs, thought it would be quiet as people are only meant to be doing essential activities. There were large groups of people walking, we had to keep stepping off the path to keep a safe distance, large groups of young men walking in huddled groups, people stopping us to ask where the kids play area was etc. We tried to cross a narrow bridge over a weir and were two thirds of the way across when people from the other end started walking on it meaning we had to squeeze past, why on earth they couldn't have kept a safe distance and waited a few seconds is beyond me. Will not be going there again until a very quiet time after 6pm.

Not in UK and after being so distracted by own countries corona chaos/actions had just assumed that the Uk was on front foot and proactive. Stunned to actually read not the case.
I'm an a state that has just declared 24 hrs and we are shutting borders, hours ago all pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants etc closed - we have 100 diagnosed - all (at this point) brought in via travel, ie no community transmission, 0 deaths, approx 13 000 + tests performed.

While pissed at my own state/countries delay to action, I'm genuinely terrified for my DH's/our British family. So many people will die.
