Anyone know what time to expect it today? Is Boris doing it today?

I see the BBC have a Coronavirus daily special 4.10-5.40pm today so presuming it will be then?

Do you think we'll have any announcements today? I'm hoping there are more lockdown measures announced. I think it's time to shut non essential shops and enforce social distancing.

In any case, Billy Bob & Co. are probably pickled with alcohol, so not likely to die haha.

Firef1y72 · 22/03/2020 19:12

Of course toddlers can’t observe a two meter rule and of course they should shut playgrounds

The toddlers can't but their parents can. Granted I live in a small town/village but my partner and I have very clear rules for our children.
If there are other children in the playground then we don't go in. If we are in and someone comes along we leave to let them have a turn and find something else to do, whether that is kicking a ball around, going for a walk or hunting for bugs. If we come back and find playground empty then we'll go back in.
If everyone did the same then there isnt a problem

GerardWay123 · 22/03/2020 19:13

I still say lockdown will be tomorrow. It will take a lot of coordination from the Army, Police etc as we will need them to enforce a lockdown

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 19:15

Fire it’s also surfaces in playgrounds so even if you switch you can still pass it on.

Flaxmeadow · 22/03/2020 19:15

Firef1y72

Still a problem because the virus can survive on surfaces, even outdoors, for hours, or even days.

Salud · 22/03/2020 19:19

Nothing wrong with firefly's kids picking it up. Everything I read says that kids don't suffer at all badly with it.
Just isolate yourselves for the 14 days if someone does develop symptoms and everything is fine. 14 days is 7 times shorter than 14 weeks.

Sammymommy · 22/03/2020 19:19

@Salud, you really don't understand the weight (and long lasting effect) it will be on society if too many people get the Coronavirus at the same time, do you.... It's not about each of us independently anymore. That's why we need a lockdown. For all the idiots who just don't understand.

Salud · 22/03/2020 19:19

I really don't see the sense in everyone wanting lockdown. Everyone is inherently selfish, so it has to be for monetary reasons.

Delatron · 22/03/2020 19:20

Yes unless you are cleaning all the playground equipment I don’t see how it can be safe. Is it really necessary to go to the playground? I wouldn’t risk it.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 19:20

Salud there are no monetary reasons.

Salud · 22/03/2020 19:21

Please don't patronise me by telling me what I do or do not understand. I've a PhD in psychology.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 19:21

Also children may not get it badly but they can pass it on to people who do.

Salud · 22/03/2020 19:21

Marsha - so why do you personally want a lockdown?

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 19:21

Lol at that. What extra money are people getting then?

pbjsandwich · 22/03/2020 19:22

@Salud and I have a black belt in the sit the fuck down.

Flaxmeadow · 22/03/2020 19:23

Nothing wrong with firefly's kids picking it up. Everything I read says that kids don't suffer at all badly with it.

That's not the point. Kids can still pass it on

Salud · 22/03/2020 19:23

But if we obey the rules - isolating the people who will get it badly, self isolating for 14 days if anyone in your healthy household has symptoms, then all is fine.

OddBoots · 22/03/2020 19:23

I am in a low paid but essential job that still needs doing if we have a lock down and DH is working from home, I have nothing to gain personally from a lock down but I think we need it if we want to save a meaningful number of lives.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 19:24

I want people to comply to social distancing. I’d prefer no lock down so people can go outside. But if we do have one then let children go outside for a walk. No meet ups.

Generally I want people to stop being selfish idiots and endangering others.

LittleLittleLittle · 22/03/2020 19:24

@Salud who is patronising you?

Also not everyones toddler doesn't have an underlying health condition. Unfortunately even in normal circumstances some parents don't find out until it is too late.

Eggcited · 22/03/2020 19:25

Everyone is inherently selfish

Really?

So the NHS staff are inherently selfish

Teaching staff looking after key worker children are inherently selfish

Key workers are inherently selfish

I'm sure you'll remind them of this, should you use any of the services they are providing.

Forza14 · 22/03/2020 19:25

PhD in Psychology?

No, you don’t.

Salud · 22/03/2020 19:25

And so what if they pass it on to healthy people? Nobody except extremely vulnerable are requiring hospitalisation. Once they're protected, we might all come down with a dose of corona, but we'll survive it. GPs are effectively shut - A&E likewise. A lot of Henny Penny's on here.

Pishposhpashy · 22/03/2020 19:25

Have NC for this. My sister's boyfriend is an NHS doctor. My sister lives with our mum (early 50s). Mum doesn't want sister's boyfriend visiting. Sister's boyfriend says it is fine as he is currently being told at work that small gatherings with family who have no symptoms are fine, it is just large gatherings to be avoided.

I'm flabbergasted. Surely this isn't right?!

Salud · 22/03/2020 19:26

No, you don’t.

I'm not going to credit that with a response.
