To ask what are u doing to ration the essentials?

DD uses far to much loo roll so I have given everyone 1 roll each. They don't get another until next Saturday (7days) so have to manage their allocation wisely!!

My friends have had serious and honest convos with their loved ones about wiping techniques too so ... How is everyone else managing the the allocation of essentials?

I don't because when all the hoarders run out of space in couple of days, toilet paper will appear back in a shop. Luckily I always get the 24 pack so we are not running out.

Some Costcos in US started to refuse TP, water and hand wash people hoarded as returns. I hope UK ones do it too. Enjoy your £500 worth of Tp and handwash. BastardsGrin

I do like the differently coloured strings tho!
I hope they keep them in their bedroom or smth. Nothing would give me bigger pleasure than nicking my brother's TP if we had this as kidsBlush

What’s to stop DD from using everyone else’s loo roll?

ViciousJackdaw · 21/03/2020 19:45

Squash the loo roll. Changing it from a round to an oval shape helps stop people yanking on the roll and tearing too much off.

Me, I have a small kitchen and tend to do small wash-ups through the day. I'm leaving it all until after tea time now, to try and stop using so much washing up liquid.

NChangeForNoReason · 21/03/2020 19:45

As @BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser suggests I'm keeping mine in my bedroom, however my friend suggests I carry it round like a handbag.

Day 1 today and we are "ok" let's see how we all fee on day 5!!

What happens if they do run out or get the shits? Do you do the laundry including skiddy pants?

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 19:50

NChangeForNoReason · 21/03/2020 19:53

I have reusable nappies to contend with so a few skidders is nothing!!! They can pop the soiled undies in the nappy bin and I will put them in the washer with my rubber gloves on!!

Instead of just giving the DC a sandwich and crisps etc for lunch today I turned it into a clown face using a cherry tomato for a nose and bits of cucumber for facial features. The sandwich was the bow tie meaning they actually had half a sandwich but didn't realise.

I also managed 3 small chicken thigh fillets made into chicken pies yesterday that fed 6.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 21/03/2020 19:58

Oh and tomorrow's meat from the roast will do another meal as well. I could do this every week but I don't and a lot gets wasted. I'm definitely learning that I buy way more food than we actually need and I can make it stretch if I need to.

merryhouse · 21/03/2020 19:59

@ViciousJackdaw people keep saying this. I remember when I was a teen I sometimes used a lot of loo roll because I felt it necessary. If it had been squashed to be more awkward to remove I'd still have used exactly the same amount, I'd just have squashed it back into a circle and muttered about inconsiderate gits messing about...

hm246 · 21/03/2020 20:11

Switched back to using cotton wool and water on my 6month old instead of wet wipes.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 20:12

I have to admit that I would NOT last with 1 roll per week so if you manage OP, kudos to you.

BretonKitten · 21/03/2020 20:19

Back onto intermittent fasting on 800 cals a day for a bit to stretch out the food I think.

CandiceSucksCandy · 21/03/2020 20:24

I'm making everyone go outside and wipe their bums on the grass.

I'm also drinking gin without tonic.

Whoareyoudududu · 21/03/2020 20:30

One roll a week seems rather cruel.

Bluewavescrashing · 21/03/2020 20:32

I saved crusts from sandwiches at lunchtime and used them for breadcrumbs for a pie topping for dinner.

I use reusable sanitary pads made of fabric. The last week. Or so I've been using them as reusable loo roll (wees only 😂) then chuck them in a tub of napisan before washing in the washing machine

Today I was pondering what to use if we completely run out of loo roll. I have a huge bag of worn out clothes for the recycling centre. I'll probably cut them up into squares to use (and bin immediately in a sealed bin).

TeaAndDarkToast · 21/03/2020 20:32

Grin @CandiceSucksCandy

I'm making everyone go outside and wipe their bums on the grass

Is that how you finance the gin?

Annabk · 21/03/2020 20:34

I know this thread is lighthearted but females need more toilet roll than males, especially if menstruating...

Floralnomad · 21/03/2020 20:35

In your toilet roll allocation OP do girls / women get more than boys / men ? I’m not rationing anything and I think it will be easier to get stuff as time goes on and people get bored of panic buying .

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/03/2020 20:38

I'm bulking out meals with veg instead of using a lot of meat.Ive cut large joints up into smaller portions and froze them.

GiantRedPanda · 21/03/2020 20:40

I think that's hilarious op. One of my yr11s bought me a leaving present of toilet roll. He said it was the most valuable commodity right now - proper made me giggle.

goose1964 · 21/03/2020 20:43

We're eating out of the freezer. DH has a habit of making enough for 16 (there used to be 5 of us one who hardly ate) so since they left home so there's loads of stews and curries etc. We're fine for loo roll as long as I watch what I eat.

shinyredbus · 21/03/2020 20:45

We’ve stopped using loo rolls and have a bidet. We have a few loo rolls left (had a big order a while back) but decided to give our loo roll to neighbours who don’t have any.

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 21/03/2020 20:46

Cut down how many baby wipes / anti bac wipes get used, reduced toilet roll to bare minimum. Using wet flannels for cleaning face / hands etc rather than baby wipes. Not throwing any food away so having a few random combinations. Drinking more tap water instead of juice / tea and generally eating slightly smaller portions (I need to lose a bit of weight anyway!)

Planning to retain these behaviours too for when it’s over to be less wasteful - as quite ashamed of how much I’ve taken for granted
