To ask what are u doing to ration the essentials?

DD uses far to much loo roll so I have given everyone 1 roll each. They don't get another until next Saturday (7days) so have to manage their allocation wisely!!

My friends have had serious and honest convos with their loved ones about wiping techniques too so ... How is everyone else managing the the allocation of essentials?

To ask what are u doing to ration the essentials?

I’d love to be able to bulk out meals with veg like I usually do. Every time I go to a shop there’s no veg/ fruit. Was so happy today to get a sweed and some green beans.

Made a 6 portion tuna pasta bake but reduced all the ingredients by about a third (so 350g of pasta instead of 500g etc. etc.).

Portions were a tad smaller but still plenty filling. Actually felt like previous portions were too big!

Oh and deffo more conscious of my toilet paper use.

Can't believe how unthinking I was previously with how much I used!

Got our napkins out of the drawer and cutting back on paper towel use. Also piling washing up in the sink to do in one bigger wash.

DP and myself are having protein/ meal replacement shakes for breakfast and lunch. We have two months worth as DP buys in bulk with his weight training so need much less food. Spent too much time watching the walking dead and said if I ever needed to stockpile it would be from holland and Barrett protein section. Also leads to less loo paper with so much liquid.

Less meat, more frozen veg and/or pulses.
Using less loo roll.
Stop snacking.

BigChockFrenzy. 😂😂😂

Got a plastic bag from some charity collection through letter box today. They never come back to collect (I usually leave them by front door for a couple of weeks then throw away). Squirrelled this one away, we are out of bin liners and couldn’t find any when I managed to get to shop over the last three days.
We never use the sliced bread ends, I’ve been putting them in the freezer as we have tons of croutons already instead of usual throw away.
I told off DH for being extravagant when he used toilet paper to blow his nose. I reduced my consumption - can’t believe how much I’d normally waste, even to absorb excess facial oil instead of tissues (using flannels now).
I saw a man in Wilko today buying loads and loads of face flannels - it must be his new toilet paper.

Not exactly rationing but still in the general spirit of this thread - I have replaced towels by the sinks with teatowels as we are going through so many. They are smaller, and take less time to dry than a larger bath towel type and less space in the washing machine.

I've banned fish finger sandwiches at lunchtime! DH and DS would easily eat 8 and 4 pieces of bread each. It's now something cheap like beans or hoops with toast, so we can save fish fingers for tea time. I've made a list of 16 meals with what was in freezer/cupboard and get them to choose each morning what they want for tea.

We've moved this to the coronavirus topic now. Flowers

TiddlestheCat · 21/03/2020 21:47

Well, we have a rule in our house, "handkerchiefs for noses, tissue for belowsies". No wasting toilet paper. Toilet paper is rationed to two pieces for a frontal wipe. If I don't ration it and hide the roll, my four year old uses half a roll at a time.

WheresTheEvidence · 21/03/2020 22:00

My rule of stocking up was it had to be something I'd eat but not something I'd eat before I needed it. So the milky ways I bought are long gone but the rice cakes and soup are still there

dontaskformedicaladviceonmn · 21/03/2020 22:41

I wouldn’t let DH cook sausages for breakfast as that’s an evening meal one day I made him have porridge as we always have loads of oats in the house.

DS usually drinks milk by the gallon but every time I hear him opening the fridge I tell him to have water instead.

I frozen bread crusts to use as breadcrumbs one day.

I have made a pan of soup from the less than best veg that usually ends up on the compost heap.

I’ve even planted a couple of little sprouted potatoes that had gone a bit soft so I can harvest spuds later on.

@Floralnomad in reality it's a tongue in cheek way of getting my DD to reduce her waste and understand the impact of thoughtless usage.

in our current scenario (me, DH and DD) we are all having the same allocation however I fully expect DH to have the least usage. If times get tough I may "borrow" some from his roll Wink
