What large corporate companies are not paying their staff?

AmIAWeed · 21/03/2020 17:27

I have seen other threads about specific companies not paying their staff and closing the doors.
I would really like if we can create a list of companies who are paying and who are not.
Nespresso emailed to say stores closing but staff being paid
Home bargains are paying staff to self isolate AND any staff who don't will get 2 weeks pay later in the year
Whose doing good by their people and who isn't?
I want to make sure when all this is over, companies are repaid with my business in the way they treat their staff.

OP posts:

Earlier in the thread someone posted that Nespresso were paying their staff. They are not paying the staff who work in their concessions on zero hour contracts.

Rumour has it that Debenhams are dragging their feet, because once they close, it will likely be permanent.

I'd be cautious about what companies are claiming to do. Deliveroo mail said their staff are being paid whilst self isolating but I've heard more than one of their staff interviewed saying that zero hours contract people don't get paid unless they can supply certificates (not exactly easy to get just now)

ivykaty44 · 22/03/2020 14:43

Easy jet have asked most staff to take two months unpaid leave

Paying out dividends and bonuses to shareholders

Timpsons have closed their shops to protect staff and are paying staff

Namechange312 · 22/03/2020 14:46

@delilahbucket I had to call in on the 17th and my manager warned me then that since I haven't had any symptoms they're not treating it as necessary. I got paid 2 days later and 2 weeks pay is missing.
I'll definitely be contacting them.

Paddypower / Flutter have shut all their UK and Eire shops, paying all staff their contracted hours (they don't have 0 hour contacts i don't think, although some staff do a lot of overtime normally). Currently until end of April.

my ds works at starbucks, got a phone call saying all the staff were being laid off immediately

this was an hour after it was announced the 80% wage deal, i dont understand why startbucks didnt go for that

Mumtoone39 · 22/03/2020 15:02

Independent vet care (ivc) told not to return to work with immediate effect last week. Pregnant so deemed higher risk, statutory sick pay as I am "choosing " to self isolate apparently. No provision made in workplace to reduce client contact ( I have offered several suggestions), seemingly it is " my risk " to take. Quite the choice to have. I am the main wage earner in my household.

chuck7 · 22/03/2020 15:02

My bother works in a call centre processing upgrades for EE. Apparently vital staff and still expect vulnerable employees in work otherwise no pay.

Mumtoone39 · 22/03/2020 15:05

That said - sick pay is better than many are getting

rowyaboat · 22/03/2020 15:06

Sister just lost her job at Footlocker

PertEllaTitsahoy · 22/03/2020 15:10

Southend Sealife centre have said they are staying open. Thankfully they are getting a right pasting on their fb page over it.

playthestation · 22/03/2020 15:14

My friend works for Starbucks. They have closed all stores and staff will get full
Pay for the next month, after that the situation will be reviewed.

my ds works at starbucks, got a phone call saying all the staff were being laid off immediately

So closed and getting paid or laid off Confused

Falangalangadingdang · 22/03/2020 15:15

I don't understand all these people loosing their jobs when these companies could apply for the government offer and get 80% of their salary for them and retain them.

What am I missing?

playthestation · 22/03/2020 15:18

What am I missing?

Some things happened before the announcement

Some people are talking crap

Some companies are using it as an excuse to get rid of people that are shite but they were stuck with

Some companies have got the info wrong

Some companies are never coming back

KenDodd · 22/03/2020 15:20

With regard Easy Jet.
I don't know what they're doing with their staff but they have asked government (aka tax payer) for money.
Last Friday (20th March)
they made a dividend payment to shareholders of 170 MILLION POUNDS
Stelios got 60 million apparently.

lookingforbaubles · 22/03/2020 15:46

re starbucks the drive thru are still open for now but all zero hr contract staff where my son was have been laid off

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 22/03/2020 15:47

Timpsons have closed their shops to protect staff and are paying staff

Not an original joke, but aren't they key workers GrinGrinGrin

playthestation · 22/03/2020 15:52

So your earlier post was just bollocks.

my ds works at starbucks, got a phone call saying all the staff were being laid off immediately

ALL staff is not the same as zero hour staff. Please, on a thread where people are discussing the right and wrongs of how businesses are treating staff be clear and truthful. It's important.

District26 · 22/03/2020 16:12

Euro Car Parts aren't paying if you have to self isolate (just SSP). If you're vulnerable or have to stay off for childcare it's unpaid leave.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 22/03/2020 16:26

I think on a thread discussing the behaviours of business we should be discussing the treatment of staff on zero hour contracts as well as salaried staff.

I already boycott Starbucks, and their treatment of their zero hours staff isn't going to have me rushing back.

ivykaty44 · 22/03/2020 17:30

Not an original joke, but aren't they key workers

Cobblers are they

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 22/03/2020 17:39

chubbycow · 22/03/2020 17:52

@District26 I’m there too, they’re shit aren’t they?

delilahbucket · 22/03/2020 17:55

@Namechange312 I used to have a manager like that. Ring hr tomorrow and if you're in Advance, ring them too.

playthestation · 22/03/2020 17:59

I'm not saying don't discuss it though?

I'm saying to that one poster don't say everybody for laid off and follow it up with actually they didn't. Just tell the truth in the first place, because on a thread about how companies treat their workers it's important not to make up shit.
