Are you going out today?

If you aren’t self isolating (of course) are you going out today?

We are thinking of going to a National Trust place so that we can go for a walk. Obviously we will be staying outside, keeping a safe distance from everyone else and will bring our own sandwiches. We won’t let the kids use the play area (if it is even open).

I’m finding it hard to risk assess! Now that the kids are off school I am keen to get outside and get then running around as much as possible but obviously want to be sensible!

I've been for a walk this morning, it was a bit bloody windy but it was nice getting some fresh air. Obviously I've washed my hands and wiped the door handles and keys etc... Fresh air with good social distancing is good for you.

Wtfdoipick · 21/03/2020 09:30

Yes, we are heading to a local area, car park is only big enough for 3 cars then it's a lovely walk by a river tumbling down waterfalls. Chances of seeing anyone else is very low and obviously if we do we will keep our distance.

Our local national trust places tend to be very busy so we are staying away.

Awrite · 21/03/2020 09:31

I'll be going for a walk along the beach. It's about a 3 minute walk away. It will empty or near empty. Fresh air and exercise are so, so important.

Lllot5 · 21/03/2020 09:32

Yep going to work.

Bookworm83 · 21/03/2020 09:34

Nope.

BestIsWest · 21/03/2020 09:36

Yes, going to pick up DS from uni as I don’t want him coming home on the train and all his housemates have gone home. Then will take the dogs for a walk in some fields at the end of our road.

YewandOak · 21/03/2020 09:36

Yes. Off to work to sort out perishable stock and turn off electrical appliances.

RandomMess · 21/03/2020 09:37

Need veg woke up early and thought I could take for a walk and pick some up and then realised it's silver surfers only first thing so I wouldn't be allowed in!

Settled in front of the TV now instead...

I’m going to do my horses this morning. It isn’t strictly essential as they are on part livery but I need to for my mental health and I have supplements to deliver to them. A little silver lining in the fact I have to work from home for three months will be that I can spend more time with them during the week, going early mornings before work rather than in the evening. Of course I would rather none of this was happening but trying to look for the positives.

They are both at small, private yards so I will see max 2 other people when I’m there and practice social distancing. In the nicest possible way, a lot of the others at the yard are quite isolated anyway (spend most of their time at the yard, don’t use public transport etc) and we will be practising social distancing. I drive there and back.

Other than that I’ll be inside.

Slurpy · 21/03/2020 09:41

I live 5 mins walk from a NT property, went for a walk there yesterday. People were very respectful of distance and it did me good to get out. Go and do all of the steps you outlined above.

AgentPrentiss · 21/03/2020 09:42

I’ve been to a friends for coffee, and am about to go walk my elderly neighbours dogs shortly. 🤷‍♀️

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/03/2020 09:43

I’ve taken the dogs out, and DH has gone for a long cycle ride.

SuperFurryDoggy · 21/03/2020 09:44

Yep, but we’re self isolating (DS had a cough) so we’ll be following the NHS advice and taking outdoor exercise whilst staying well away from other people. So a 1-hour dog walk around a more remote area of forest, giving a massive wide berth to anyone we come across! Dog will be stuck on his lead too.

bettercaulsaul · 21/03/2020 09:44

We'll be going for a walk away from everyone (hopefully!) two dogs and a 20-month old to exercise. DD already had an hour in the garden.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/03/2020 09:45

Yes. We like to get some fresh air every day and as long as DS and I are still fit and well we will be going for brief walks/scooter rides.

We will not be meeting up with others and we will stick to open spaces so we can limit our contact with other people.

AuntieStella · 21/03/2020 09:45

I might go for a (solo) run later on. It's nice to get outside, and going for walks/runs is still OK

wendz86 · 21/03/2020 09:46

We were going to walk to local shop to get tissues as run out but little one has now come out in chicken pox so we won't be going anywhere.

YukoandHiro · 21/03/2020 09:46

@SuperFurryDoggy that's not the advice for people who are self isolating. If you're self isolating you have to stay totally at home for 7 days if you're symptomatic. Non symptomatic co-householders can go out to exercise.

LightAsTheBreeze · 21/03/2020 09:46

That sounds nice OP, maybe DH and I could do that tomorrow. I'm in today but DH is out buying a roller thing so he can use his bike in the garage and getting a few bits of shopping.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 21/03/2020 09:46

Yes and hopefully be able to put together some sort of picnic (not been able to get bread) but I think we have some thins in the freezer.

SeaViewBliss · 21/03/2020 09:47

DH and I are going to go for a drive and see if we can find a quiet patch of beach to get some fresh air.

We also need to try and get MIL some milk but I’m so twitchy about going in any shops.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/03/2020 09:47

Also we live in a flat with no garden so the only way for us to get some fresh air is to go out for a bit.

DustyMaiden · 21/03/2020 09:51

Driving to get DS from uni.

Petiolaris · 21/03/2020 09:51

We are staying home. MIL and PIL (69) are off to the shopping centre “before they decide to close that too”. They think because they’re a few months under 70 they don’t have to self isolate and will receive hospital treatment if needed because “we’re under the cut off age”.

lowlandLucky · 21/03/2020 09:55

I have walked down to our village store, bought fresh veg for todays/tomorrows dinner. This afternoon i will have a stroll up one of the nearby hills, might go for the easy 900ft or the 1.500ft one if there is no snow on the path.
