Are you going out today?

If you aren’t self isolating (of course) are you going out today?

We are thinking of going to a National Trust place so that we can go for a walk. Obviously we will be staying outside, keeping a safe distance from everyone else and will bring our own sandwiches. We won’t let the kids use the play area (if it is even open).

I’m finding it hard to risk assess! Now that the kids are off school I am keen to get outside and get then running around as much as possible but obviously want to be sensible!

OP posts:

Yes I went to a out door circuit class only 5 of us at were all at least 2m apart.

Dh taking the kids to the park to play football. We are not really self isolating but definitely social distancing

AgentPrentiss · 21/03/2020 10:44

I’ve been to a friends for coffee

@AgentPrentiss seriously?

@Dongdingdong yes seriously. Whilst our children spend all day, every day together at school, and our school has no intention of closing until directed to, I’m ok with coffee. 🤷‍♀️

ClientQueen · 21/03/2020 10:45

Just into the garden. Social distancing as v high risk and I don't need to go out for anything essential. TBH I am not planning on going anywhere in the near future except perhaps for a drive in my car so the battery doesn't go flat

IceKitten · 21/03/2020 10:47

We're all staying in all day today.

WinterCat · 21/03/2020 10:47

Only in the back garden.

Sensible social distancing is fine as long as there is not a reason for you to be staying in.

Ginkypig · 21/03/2020 10:49

The schools were directly told to shut as of end of the school day yesterday.

Krazykitty · 21/03/2020 10:55

@Borkins I'm a bit sick of the judgement around this now and have come off social media

I totally agree. So many judgemental people out there. If I didn’t go out (yes social distancing) I would probably end up being sectioned, so that would add to the NHS burden. I have depression as it is and some of the judgemental posts on here are not needed.

Hillocrew · 21/03/2020 10:56

Agent prentis... you're putting that elderly person you're helping out later at risk

This is soooooo serious. We're approaching a full lockdown if people keep on visiting friends for coffee etc.
Please rethink
I'm not visiting my own parents. And my daughter isn't coming here to visit us either. If we can do that I'm sure you can cope with not visiting friends houses for now. Please

SuperFurryDoggy · 21/03/2020 10:58

Copy and pasted:

You'll need to stay at home if you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) or live with someone who does.

Staying at home means you should:

not go to work, school or public areas
not use public transport or taxis
not have visitors, such as friends and family, in your home
not go out to buy food or collect medicine – order them by phone or online, or ask someone else to drop them off at your home
You can use your garden, if you have one. You can also leave the house to exercise – but stay at least 2 metres away from other people

That’s from the official NHS coronavirus self isolation advice page www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/

iwishiwasonhol · 21/03/2020 10:58

yip off to work in a supermarket gonna be a fun day, all I want to do is lock my door and stay in and be safe

WinterCat · 21/03/2020 10:59

@SuperFurryDoggy but that’s for people in isolation. The OP said all is well so is just social distancing.

SuperFurryDoggy · 21/03/2020 11:00

I do understand the confusion though, we stayed in completely for the first 4 days, only letting the dog in the garden to go to the loo, before I thought to check on the NHS website.

2 meters does seem a bit reckless though, even outdoors, but we can see people coming a long way off in the forest and completely avoid them (which is what we’ve been doing)

SuperFurryDoggy · 21/03/2020 11:01

Sorry @WinterCat, we are in self isolation and I was replying to people who have been saying that means we need to not leave our home at all. I should have clarified!

AgentPrentiss · 21/03/2020 11:01

@Ginkypig was that aimed at me? Our school in Australia is not closed, and has no intention of closing unless the government orders them to.

I barely see anyone pre covid19, I have a pretty sad social life and spend majority of my time at home. I can guarantee I come into far less contact with anyone than 99% of people on here getting hysterical and calling everyone selfish fuckwits. My friend and I are intelligent enough to weigh up the risks, so I’m ok with my one social contact while the rest of my city goes about their business as usual and our kids are still at school.

Krazykitty · 21/03/2020 11:03

@AgentPrentiss I am with you on this.

She went to a friends for coffee, probably social distancing, which is perfectly fine if no one has symptoms

AgentPrentiss · 21/03/2020 11:03

Agent prentis... you're putting that elderly person you're helping out later at risk

So who should help her then? Care workers who probably come into contact with far more people than I do? Dog walkers who probably have far more clients than the amount of people I see? Who?

Kahlua4me · 21/03/2020 11:04

We are staying home all day, May potter in the garden later for some fresh air. DS has gone to walk the dog through the woods.

We back onto a large park area and there are lots of people out walking in the sunshine. Can’t hear any coughing..

Blobbyweeble · 21/03/2020 11:05

I’m going for a dog walk with a friend. We will stay at least 2 metres apart which we do anyway as we both have reactive dogs so can’t walk next to each other. Neither of us have anyone we know with symptoms so are not self isolating.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/03/2020 11:05

Whilst our children spend all day, every day together at school, and our school has no intention of closing until directed to, I’m ok with coffee

I think the point the poster was making is that meeting up with people and then going to vulnerable elderly neighbours is completely irresponsible and putting their lives at risk. Doing one or the other is fine.

If you are going to do this. Don’t go into their home and stay more than 2m away from them at all times.

GoldenKirst · 21/03/2020 11:05

I went out early this morning with the dog, only bumped in to one other person. Probably won't leave the house again until I do the same tomorrow morning 🤪 OH is going out on his bike

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/03/2020 11:06

Not fine, but better is probably more accurate.

AgentPrentiss · 21/03/2020 11:10

I think the point the poster was making is that meeting up with people and then going to vulnerable elderly neighbours is completely irresponsible and putting their lives at risk. Doing one or the other is fine.

And again, I can guarantee that anyone else going to help her would have had far more contact with other people than I do.

Natsku · 21/03/2020 11:13

I'll go for a walk but not sure where. Had planned on walking in the forest every day (I live on the edge of one) but walked there with DD yesterday and the footpath is a solid sheet of ice, I slipped and almost fell and breaking a bone would be a really bad idea right now!

BiarritzCrackers · 21/03/2020 11:13

Even under paying conditions, the parkland at our nearest NT is thronging (even though, apart from the lake, it looks not dissimilar to all the footpath-covered countryside around it).

I will go out for a walk later. It is a low population area, we hardly see anyone out walking in usual times. Will take gloves, for using stiles and gates though.

Dongdingdong · 21/03/2020 11:14

@Dongdingdong yes seriously. Whilst our children spend all day, every day together at school, and our school has no intention of closing until directed to, I’m ok with coffee.

But you’re wilfully ignoring what the government has advised and are risking spreading the virus. This is why we will be forced to bring in total lockdown soon, with fines for anyone who leaves their home unnecessarily.
