Are you going out today?

If you aren’t self isolating (of course) are you going out today?

We are thinking of going to a National Trust place so that we can go for a walk. Obviously we will be staying outside, keeping a safe distance from everyone else and will bring our own sandwiches. We won’t let the kids use the play area (if it is even open).

I’m finding it hard to risk assess! Now that the kids are off school I am keen to get outside and get then running around as much as possible but obviously want to be sensible!

I went for a beautiful early morning 10k

Then popped to Sainsbury’s express to pick up bits for self isolating friend

Now home. Will go for a walk later

kittykat7210 · 21/03/2020 09:58

Going for my last day at work before self isolation. Going to be a strange day, just got to hope I don’t catch it today, I’ve made it this far so fingers crossed!

Elieza · 21/03/2020 10:00

Aldi, farm foods and Sainsbury’s to get the various things I need. Great if I get them all in the first shop though so I can forget the others but I doubt it!
First time out the house in a week. Intending to walk round the park if quiet. My weekly treat! I’m taking this well serious. Would quite like to continue to be alive!

Bringringbring12 · 21/03/2020 10:02

@YukoandHiro

You are wrong
Those self-isolating can go out for exercise

If possible, you should not go out even to buy food or other essentials, other than exercise, and in that case at a safe distance from others.

From gov website re how we should approach self isolation if someone in family displaying symptoms

chopc · 21/03/2020 10:06

Medic here - if any of your household contacts have it- outside is your own garden. No going for walks etc and you should get your food delivered.

Ohffs66 · 21/03/2020 10:08

Not today. Tesco yesterday and took the dog to the park but it was like the fucking school holidays so not doing that today! Luckily she's a lazy bugger, if she does get a bit restless we will play some games in the garden. Tomorrow we will be up and out at 6am to give her a good run before anyone else is about, then nowhere for the rest of the day. Just had to persuade DM (75) that a trip to the local shop to get a newspaper is not 'essential'. But apparently it will be ok as it's just down the road....🙄

BarbedBloom · 21/03/2020 10:08

No, just into the garden. My friend is going shopping (not for food) Hmm

Sirzy · 21/03/2020 10:10

I have driven an hour away to pick up DP from work (I’m not getting out the car) and then going back. But he is washing my car when I get there so that’s a bonus (they have power hose on site - logistics firm) That’s the level of excitement for today Grin

Lovebug06 · 21/03/2020 10:16

I took the dog for a walk, dc came with me as alone, Dh is a keyworker. We just kept a distance from anyone we saw. However there was already a few kids in the park and about ten kids and teenagers at the skatepark. There was also people walking their dogs in a group and chatting to other dog walkers so was completely normal. Think I was the only one keeping distance!

Samtsirch · 21/03/2020 10:18

Only to walk the dog, then leave some food at a friends doorstep.
I will be at work on Monday though.

Nofoolfornoone · 21/03/2020 10:20

@SuperFurryDoggy and @YukoandHiro

If any household member has symptoms the advice is the 14 isolation for all members of household and strictly not leaving the House at all.

Social distancing is for people where no one in the household has symptoms and that is when you can go out for walks.

Borkins · 21/03/2020 10:21

I'm a bit sick of the judgement around this now and have come off social media.

A walk/run alone and away from others is fine and within guidelines. Yet there are some judging others who leave their house at all.

What about people in flats? You cannot expect people to see no fresh air for months on end. Not only will we have the Covid crisis but a massive mental health one too.

Nofoolfornoone · 21/03/2020 10:25

There is a difference between social distancing and social isolation.

Social distancing is the advice for people who have no symptoms. Go for walks, go out only for essential trips, stay a metre or more apart .

Social isolation is for those with symptoms. If you live alone you self isolate (do not leave the house at all) for 7 days. If you live with others then it’s 14 days.

DrFoxtrot · 21/03/2020 10:27

This is why we need a lockdown as people cannot follow the guidance correctly to see what applies to them.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/03/2020 10:27

I live alone in a flat (without a garden or balcony) in central London and I won't be leaving my flat today. I'm usually very active (gym & other exercise every day, sometimes twice a day) but this is a crisis on an unprecented scale so I'm staying home and not putting myself or anyone else at risk. I will go stir-crazy I'm sure but better that than the alternative.

Nofoolfornoone · 21/03/2020 10:28

@DrFoxtrot I agree!

Lifesavesocialdistance · 21/03/2020 10:29

No not today. I imagine everyone will flock to local nt place and they 6 may close it for safety!.
On Monday and from then on we will aim to get out for walks but obviously more remote places. And later on.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 21/03/2020 10:30

I have to. Two weeks ago my prescription was ordered. Went to Boots and the queue was out the door. Went back the next day.... got my tablets, but several items missing. Went back but again, didn’t want to queue as a) social distancing and b) I just didn’t have time. I will try today as I have now run out of medication I need, which is not supposed to be discontinued.

So yes, against my better judgment, I am forced to do the wrong thing.

Nofoolfornoone · 21/03/2020 10:30

@Bringringbring12 did you read the link you posted? It clearly says household members of people showing symptoms should not leave the house at al for 14 days

Dongdingdong · 21/03/2020 10:32

I’ve been to a friends for coffee

@AgentPrentiss seriously?

YakkityYakYakYak · 21/03/2020 10:34

I’m going stir crazy in the house so definitely need to get out for a walk somewhere, I think the national trust places are going to be too busy this weekend so trying to think of somewhere that will be quieter.

TheoriginalLEM · 21/03/2020 10:35

Can those self isolating go for a walk? I'm symptomatic so probably won't but do and dd, and our dogs, need some air! Can they go and obviously keep distance from others?

IrisAtwood · 21/03/2020 10:39

I’m going out for a one hour walk as far away from other people as possible.

FrequentFlyer96 · 21/03/2020 10:39

Yes, been for a solo walk around the perimeter of the compound where I live (not in UK). Not many people out and I stayed on the other side of the road from anyone I saw- fellow walkers/joggers or dog walkers etc. Was only out for half an hour but feel a lot better for it. Good for mental and physical health.
