Just reminded me of the threads from Christmas I’ve got £5 worth of fresh posh clementines and I’m thinking wtf I didn’t ask for those he must be thinking we need our Vit C then I realised the tin of mandarin oranges I asked for wasn’t there, it’s going to be an expensive jelly!!

Not knocking him though bless him he tried just he’s expensive to send to the shops a few tins of chopped toms he substituted with two pots of fresh Tom pasta sauce and 3 bags of cherry toms

I could go on ...

Well I’d say he’s done pretty well considering most tins have been wiped from all supermarkets near me

turkeyontheplate · 20/03/2020 15:43

Mine came back with a bag of potato croquettes and an avocado!

MitziK · 20/03/2020 16:11

Oh, he tried better than GuitarTwat who came back emptyhanded the first time because he insisted on a fucking list that I knew was a waste of time writing.

GuitarTwat now goes with a generic 'something bread related or flour', 'tomatoes would be nice', 'the cats will be eating human food if you can't get them their usual--.

And any potato product is better than no potatoes for twenty miles I did add avocados to my Amazon list for tomorrow, though

Purpleartichoke · 20/03/2020 16:22

Our lists have gotten very different.
Canned fruit is hard to come by, clementines seem like an excellent substitution to me.

BournvilleGreen · 20/03/2020 16:27

There is no meat, no frozen foods of any description, no tins, no rice no loo roll/kitchen roll, no sliced bread etc at our branch. There is fresh baked goods from in store bakery and fruit/some veg.
Cheese galore, and some processed meats.
There wasn't even any milk chocolate other than bars over £2.50 per 100g (Tony's chocolonely, Godiva etc)

Knowhowufeel2 · 20/03/2020 16:30

Not my other half, but I went for eggs and a cucumber and came back with 2 deodorants and 1 packet of hair dye HmmGrin

Frownette · 20/03/2020 16:32

I was driven to the supermarket today after a week of not being able to go (too feeble).

In my excitement I came back with sticky toffee pudding and clotted cream, potato waffles, soup, pasta, ready meal linguine, quorn cocktail sausages, bio yogurt, and a ton of fruit including my favourite, nectarines. Forgot milk.

BournvilleGreen · 20/03/2020 16:32

No deodorants, or sanitary products either.
Don't have periods anyone!

Undies1990 · 20/03/2020 16:51

I went to Sainsburys for eggs and came out with some tinned haggis. Who knew such a thing existed?!

Apolloanddaphne · 20/03/2020 16:57

I am a habitual list maker for the supermarket. Now I go into the store with the hung ho attitude of someone on Ready Steady Cook thinking about what I can make with the random selection of stuff available to buy! It is making me very creative!

PigletJohn · 20/03/2020 18:09

Went to Lidl for a loaf of bread and some milk, came back with a barbecue, two diving suits, and an arc welder.

UnrulySalvia · 20/03/2020 18:12

We got our Iceland delivery this morning.. none of the frozen stuff arrived at all! We did get the fresh veg though, which I'm thankful for. We can live off fresh veg and the tins we have.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/03/2020 18:15

Have you actually seen the tin shelves in a supermarket recently? They are stripped completely bare so you wouldn’t of found chopped tomatoes even if you’d gone yourself. His managed to find tomatoes, the lucky sod

I went yesterday and wanted a potato of any kind as the carb for my dc meals, The only potato product in the whole store was 2 bags of frozen mash... who knew frozen mash was even a thing

Frownette · 20/03/2020 18:17

Oh you teasers (you know who you are).

I bought things I had a sudden craving for rather than having a coherent plan. After the horror stories on here about empty shelves I was delighted to see food. Felt quite happy with it though it was expensive.

GreenTulips · 20/03/2020 18:18

DH went to the chemist

I asked ‘did they have any paracetamol?’ ‘OH didn’t know we needed any’
‘Did they have any thermometer’s?’
‘OH didn’t think to check’

I despair

BournvilleGreen · 20/03/2020 18:48

@Frownette I do hope you're on the mend Thanks

pigsDOfly · 20/03/2020 18:53

I shouldn't worry GreenTulips it's highly unlikely that the Chemist had either of those things.

Frownette · 20/03/2020 19:16

Thank you @BournvilleGreen that's nice of you :)

ShadyAcromat · 20/03/2020 19:21

DH was like this on his first supermarket trip this week. He was gone almost two and a half hours and came back with 1 bag of things not on the list. Today though he cut his time down to 30 minutes, used self scan, took a list but was also creative with substitutes- even with DD's sanitary pads. Just takes experience.

LuluJakey1 · 20/03/2020 19:23

We are just shopping in our village and not seeing real shortages. The fruit and veg shop has everything, there is a butcher(I don't buy meat), a Sainsbury and a Co-op- not full size but both well-stocked, bakers, a BM bargains and an Iceland. There has been nothing that we have not been able to get other than hand sanitiser. Some days there is a loo roll or paracetamol shortage but apart from that nothing has been out of stock. No idea what large supermarkets are like.
Only seen one person being ridiculous.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/03/2020 19:28

My ex did better than he ever did when he lived here. Got enough to survive on.

GnomicGnu · 20/03/2020 19:29

I sent DH out for a lawn sprinkler one time. He came back with a very expensive racing bike.

At the moment he’s doing a good job of hunting out fancy bread and bargain beers.

MerryDeath · 20/03/2020 19:30

can everyone use this experience to get on reusable sanpro, spread the word!

barberousbarbara · 20/03/2020 19:31

DP did well apart from he could only buy Popchips instead of normal crisps because that was all they had. I did point out that there was probably a reason that's why they were left. I'm on chemotherapy at the moment and have altered taste buds. The Popchips taste like cardboard to me. DP doesn't like them but I've told him we're not wasting food so he'll have to eat them Smile

Royallyscrewed · 20/03/2020 19:35

Mine came back with two packs of fish cakes and some paninis when he was sent for a loaf and sandwich fillings. You have to laugh about it although given the state of the shelves lately I’m not sure I’d have done any better 🤦🏻‍♀️
