Just reminded me of the threads from Christmas I’ve got £5 worth of fresh posh clementines and I’m thinking wtf I didn’t ask for those he must be thinking we need our Vit C then I realised the tin of mandarin oranges I asked for wasn’t there, it’s going to be an expensive jelly!!

Not knocking him though bless him he tried just he’s expensive to send to the shops a few tins of chopped toms he substituted with two pots of fresh Tom pasta sauce and 3 bags of cherry toms

I could go on ...

I got hot cross buns (sorry, I know it's lent!), scones, apples, bananas, fresh milk.
I could probably live on hot cross buns and apples quite happily tbh.
The children won't eat them though Confused

I bought a drill. No sanitary towels available, the drill was opposite the empty shelf in Aldi

Anything edible is a successful trip just now

Hedgesfullofbirds · 20/03/2020 21:34

Went for a few basics today and came out with nothing...decided to go collecting roadkill instead to stock the freezer. Found, amongst other things, a dead cat - yipee, double whammy, meat AND the skin makes a good bum wipe alternative!

AdoraBell · 20/03/2020 21:34

DH went to Sainsbury’s for bread. He picked up apples, 2 bags, because the -other- OAPs were clearing all the fresh produce and meat. He’d forgotten that he’d bought 2 packets of apples 2 days earlier, and another bag of apples delivered the intervening day because I couldn’t amend the order 🤦‍♀️

MerryDeath · 20/03/2020 21:45

@ADreamOfGood i can recommend 'mout' and 'smol', silly names - modernly marketed online services which cover both. i have received cv-19 free deliveries from each this week!

BackforGood · 20/03/2020 23:32

Thanks @BournvilleGreen Grin

Frownette · 20/03/2020 23:34

@Hedgesfullofbirds I'd far rather have the image in my head of happy little cats in the supermarket with their trollies choosing delicacies instead of roadkill

BournvilleGreen · 20/03/2020 23:47

I'll be there again tomorrow @BackforGood - I shall wave a MN scarf and whisper "naice ham" at those that look like Take That fans Wink

Writersblock2 · 20/03/2020 23:48

My local stores aren’t so bad. I’ve got a Tesco delivery due tomorrow though so that will be the test. Mind you, OH and I are going for the “if it’s the end of the world we will die eating lovely things” approach so we have mostly bought lime pickle and Easter eggs.

ny20005 · 20/03/2020 23:50

@Undies1990 & @gavisconismyfriend tinned haggis was the only thing I couldn't find today. My dh adores haggis nachos with peppercorn sauce

With curry sauce in a roll sounds amazing !

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 20/03/2020 23:51

Nivea bodywash, milk and packet rice.
I had asked for jacket potatoes

PenguinsOnParade · 20/03/2020 23:51

My DH has been weirdly good at shopping but he's obsessed with thermometers. He actually phoned me saying one shop had them and should he get one, I told him no we had one, we just had to put new batteries in it. Then when we were both in our local shop for milk and potatoes he pointed out the thermometers and suggested we get one. Hmm None of us are ill right now and all of us are old enough that it's easy enough to tell if someone has a fever without even needing to use the thermometer anyway.

PigletJohn · 21/03/2020 01:35

yum, yum

tinned minced lungs

Thepigeonsarecoming · 21/03/2020 01:42

I know the feeling OP, I’m lucky our shops are well enough stocked to yet fresh food but I just wanted a cheap bag of frozen mixed basic veg for soups/stocks/sauces.

Instead I now have three peppers, a bag of carrots, 4 whole garlics, a bunch of celery, three onions and a bag of chillis. It’s just the two of us! I don’t want to waste it so I’m now searching different recipes to use it all up and make soups etc

Maybe it was just a clever ploy to make me cook more 🤨

ocarinan · 21/03/2020 01:54

who knew frozen mash was even a thing

Most people.

Purpleartichoke · 21/03/2020 01:57

thepigeonsaeecoming

All of that freezes really well except the celery. Chop it up and save it.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 21/03/2020 02:00

@purpleartichoke not going to lie I didn’t think of that, was thinking of meals to cook and freeze. Never froze veg before uncooked, now I feel stupid though as where does my frozen bags of veg I originally wanted come from!! 🤦‍♀️

totallydevoidofideas · 21/03/2020 02:02

My DH went out for some milk and while he was there he had a bit of a panic and bought tomato soup, tinned pineapple and two tins of mushrooms. I didn't even know you could get tinned mushrooms. It will be a dark day if I ever have to open those tins...

Upherefordancing · 21/03/2020 02:09

I'm thinking my next family appetising meal is going to be crisps individually wrapped in ham with a frozen pea on top...yum.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 21/03/2020 02:11

@totallydevoidofideas I’ll trade you for my celery!!! I love tinned mushroom on toast! 😂

Blubelle7 · 21/03/2020 02:22

Mine's really good. Always comes back with everything needed without a list and will call to verify if he has a specifically requested item and check if any substitutions are okay.

totallydevoidofideas · 21/03/2020 02:32

@thepigeonsarecoming dh said they are nice on toast as well, but I'm still not convinced. I'll have that celery, thanks!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 21/03/2020 02:58

@totallydevoidofideas if you have you every been on an all inclusive holiday, the are the breakfast mushrooms you get. A bit slippery and slimy but tasty (if a bit pickled).... I’m not selling them well here am I 😂
