If there was a coronavirus test available for £6 would you buy it from Amazon

If you could buy a test from somewhere like Amazon would you?

It occurs to me if you could test yourself, then you could go back to something of a normal existence. Work, shopping, family visiting.

To me Amazon would be the best distributor and pharmacies of course.

Yes, happy to buy via NHS or pharmacy to have peace of mind either way. I have some high risk family members and it would make their 12 week isolation easier if they knew which people it was safe to be around.

bobstersmum · 20/03/2020 17:02

I would pay gladly. Also think (hope) I've recently had it.

tryingtoprep · 20/03/2020 17:06

@AmelieTaylor I've read about several drugs showing promise in treating it. An old anti malarial, an HIV drug combination, a drug originally developed to trest ebola. I think a few others too. There's no miracle cure yet but these have demonstrated some success. They seem to work best if given before the point of requiring ventilation. Several countries are using some of these drugs as part of their treatment. Belgium, South Korea, the US, a few others.

Sadly I agree with you @FourTeaFallOut I don't have huge confidence in getting any treatment here. I nearly bought the anti malarial when it was available cheaply OTC. Wavered and now out of stock everywhere. I wonder if some of the famous people diagnosed have been treated privately?

MyDcAreMarvel · 20/03/2020 17:07

Yes

BogOffWinter · 20/03/2020 17:11

Not from amazon or any other company. I’d buy one direct from my doctor if that was an option, but never for a company that’s only out to make a profit and doesn’t give a shit about the well-being of either it’s employees and customers

4forkssake · 20/03/2020 17:12

Yes, or an antibody test. I'd pay for it for sure, providing it was guaranteed.

WrongKindOfFace · 20/03/2020 17:23

Fuck yes. I mean we shouldn’t have to pay, the government should be doing test and trace as widely as possible.

I hope when the antibody test is finalised it is widely available and free of charge to the public.

Letsdoanamechangeagain · 20/03/2020 17:35

If it was a proper test, yes I would.

No, we shouldn't have to pay to be tested, but if I can save the NHS £6, or £18 to get my family tested. So be it. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Some people spend £6 on their lunch without a second thought, this is far more important. If you could, why wouldn't you?

SoupDragon · 20/03/2020 17:36

I hope when the antibody test is finalised it is widely available and free of charge to the public.

I think it should be free only to those eligible for free prescriptions.

Roselilly36 · 20/03/2020 17:39

It’s not about the price OP, it’s about supporting the NHS, rather than a commercial business.

willowpatterns · 20/03/2020 17:40

Confused If the test was negative, you couldn't then just carry on as normal. You'd have to test yourself every day for months.

I think it should be free only to those eligible for free prescriptions Why?

WrongKindOfFace · 20/03/2020 17:41

I think it should be free only to those eligible for free prescriptions.

Usually I’d agree but given how many people will be on the bones of their arses In coming months, but not eligible for free prescriptions, I think we make it free.

Mysocalledlifexx · 20/03/2020 17:41

No i wouldnt trust it from amazon only at a hospital id pay.

Roselilly36 · 20/03/2020 17:42

Because some people some people qualify as eligible.

Lordamighty · 20/03/2020 17:43

There will be home testing available soon just wait until it is available through official channels.

SoupDragon · 20/03/2020 17:44

I think it should be free only to those eligible for free prescriptions

Why?

Because the cost to the NHS/government would be huge. I actually think that those who can afford to pay should but that is impossible to police.

AnotherMurkyDay · 20/03/2020 17:46

I would buy it but not from amazon. I won't even buy vitamins tablets off amazon. You never know what you're buying.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 20/03/2020 17:46

I'd like to know whether or not the horrible thing I currently have (temperature, horrendous dry cough and chest pain) is coronavirus or whether it's just a nasty bug.

Would rather pay the NHS than Amazon though.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 20/03/2020 17:47

yes i would

Jerseygaly · 20/03/2020 17:52

Should be free to those who have had a fever etc since half term.
But for anyone who has worked where there is a confirmed case of one at the school

justasking111 · 21/03/2020 15:03

I was thinking of Amazon as more a distribution solution, large supermarket groups would perhaps be just as useful.

I think it would be nice to know you have been ill are now recovered so can go back to normal life. However, the latest news means many of us would not have a job to go back to anyway.

OP posts:
expatinspain · 21/03/2020 15:11

Yes

justasking111 · 25/03/2020 16:07

Interesting looks like Amazon may be a distributor

sassbott · 25/03/2020 16:13

Yes. And amazon yes. Why? Because they have the best distribution network in place to get these out across the Uk quickly and cheaply.

MrsChoc · 25/03/2020 16:17

Yes, absolutely
