If there was a coronavirus test available for £6 would you buy it from Amazon

If you could buy a test from somewhere like Amazon would you?

It occurs to me if you could test yourself, then you could go back to something of a normal existence. Work, shopping, family visiting.

To me Amazon would be the best distributor and pharmacies of course.

Yes. Maybe one each for now and one to keep for next time I feel unwell. Though I'd rather buy from a different retailer; I treat Amazon as a shop of last resort.

Aragog · 20/03/2020 16:10

Yes, if it was an official one and not a scam.

DD has had a cough, along with milk cold symptoms, this week. We are isolating. DH has coughed a few times but not much. I have too, and have had a tight chest on and off - but not sure if this is anxiety symptoms or something else altogether.

It would be nice to know, even though we haven't actually been ill as such.

Aragog · 20/03/2020 16:11

Like others I'd rather it was direct from the NHS or a Government source though.

AmelieTaylor · 20/03/2020 16:12

@tryingtoprep

Definitely. Especially as I've read early treatment improves chances of recovery

What treatment?!

AmelieTaylor · 20/03/2020 16:14

I would pay

But I don’t think anyone should have to. Once the test is available the Govt should be asking everyone to have the test done as they need the statistics/demographic info to prepare for the future. BJ has said this will happen hasn’t he?! (In one of his 5pm sessions- wed naybe?!)

Hazelnutlatteplease · 20/03/2020 16:15

Yes absolutely. From an authorised source

SoundofSilence · 20/03/2020 16:17

As others have said, I'd be happy to pay for a test, but from the NHS or a pharmacy. I'd be highly suspicious of a product only available through Amazon and following some poor experiences, they are very much my retailer of last resort.

Orangeblossom78 · 20/03/2020 16:17

I saw this one www.alphabiolabs.co.uk/workplace-testing-services/coronavirus-testing-kit/

Not sure how accurate they are though, someone on here mentioned to me. More here on it. More expensive though.(£150)

I would love to know as then could help and see others etc, and for peace of mind.

DowntonCrabby · 20/03/2020 16:17

Yes

Cornettoninja · 20/03/2020 16:18

From a verified source? Absolutely.

Gingerkittykat · 20/03/2020 16:20

Yes, I would like a test both for possible current infection and for antibodies.

I think anyone would struggle to produce the millions demand even in the UK without thinking about the rest of the world.

Orangeblossom78 · 20/03/2020 16:21

BoJo was talking about these antibody tests yesterday wasn't he?

Cuddling57 · 20/03/2020 16:23

Happ to pay the NHS and hopefully they make a profit that gets put directly into nurses and doctors etc pay packets.
I hope all the key workers in the world get the respect and pay they deserve after this. Really showing who we rely on. (Sorry off topic a bit!)

ursuslemonade · 20/03/2020 16:24

100% yes.

FourTeaFallOut · 20/03/2020 16:24

A reliable antibody test would be amazing. Imagine finding out that you have already unknowingly had it and then you could get on with helping?

Alone07 · 20/03/2020 16:24

Yes definitely an antibody one, I wonder how long it will be before there is one.

DustyMaiden · 20/03/2020 16:27

Definitely, it would feel like having a super power to safely go out and volunteer where ever needed.

YourVagesty · 20/03/2020 16:27

So many would be wasted though. You'd order one, use it, test negative, buy another...

GrumpyHoonMain · 20/03/2020 16:29

Would the government care to test it for the general public though? When the test is rolled out it should be for key workers and employers to be able to use as required.

GeraldTippett · 20/03/2020 16:35

Why is everyone so sure you just get it once then that's it, you're 'safe' and can just go about your business? If we go into compulsory lock down people atent just going to be able to cruise around on the basis that they took an Amazon test and it showed they'd had it. And who is to say you can't get it twice?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/03/2020 16:36

Let's hope the first person to come up with a widely available antibody test for the public doesn't then try to capitalise on it and make mega money whilst denying other labs the chance to produce similar without breaking patents etc. Look at the case of the ventilator valve in Italy for an example of how some companies are trying to cash in on the situation (a vent part can be produced by a 3D printer for £1, the manufacturer of usual supplies to the hospitals charges £11k and is suing the people who created the £1 part for breach of patent).

Homkaismycat · 20/03/2020 16:38

Yes

chatterbugmegastar · 20/03/2020 16:41

Well on prescription would be £9, so amazon would be cheaper.

But amazon is shyte

Pay to the NHS. More than script charge - and yes I would

SirVixofVixHall · 20/03/2020 16:42

Yes. I would happily pay more than that to help support free tests for all essential workers.

IpeartreeI · 20/03/2020 16:49

Yes, absolutely.
