Safari Park??

I've got a 3 and a 1 year old. we're on day 10 self isolating and it's starting to drive them bonkers. I've read on the advice that it's ok to go for a drive, which we have been doing to get them to nap, but I was wondering if we could go to the safari park? pay online before we go and just do the drive around bit, not any bits where you get out and walk around, so no contact with others? is that reasonable? happy to be told no, but genuinely curious what people think

I actually think this is a great idea. I’m probably missing something though.

ShanghaiDiva · 20/03/2020 08:57

What part of stay at home is not clear to you?

Tulipstulips · 20/03/2020 08:58

The part where the CMO said it was fine to go for a drive with family?

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 20/03/2020 08:59

I don't see how being in a sealed car not coming onto contact with anyone is different from being in a house not coming into contact with anyone?

Hmm. The suspicion is that this terrible thing originated with wild animals. Now I have no idea whether that means from eating them or simply being in close proximity. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near them until everything is understood.
If you do decide to go - bad idea, I think - please don’t wind down the windows and do any feeding.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 20/03/2020 09:01

How would you pay for the tickets?

minipie · 20/03/2020 09:01

I can’t see the problem with this, but I’d email to check that there isn’t any part of the visit where you have to come in contact with others.

Also to check if they are open - they may not be open due to staff shortages.

LambriniSocialist · 20/03/2020 09:02

Going out in a car and not getting out of the car is fine isn't it? We are self isolating and are planning to do this at the weekend.

GreyishDays · 20/03/2020 09:02

Is it close to home? My fear of going too far right now is that the car breaks down.

ShanghaiDiva · 20/03/2020 09:02

The op is self isolating that means stay at home.
I don’t think people understand how much worse this is going to get if we cannot change our behaviour.
The safari park should not even be open!

sunshinemachine · 20/03/2020 09:03

i think that’s a good idea

Mrsjayy · 20/03/2020 09:06

Longleat drive through is opened I noticed on FB,. my thing would be what if the kids needed the toilet as they do as soon as you are miles from the nearest toilet

LambriniSocialist · 20/03/2020 09:06

The op is self isolating that means stay at home.

No, it means no contact others. If you go out in your own car, it is sealed and you don't get out, that is surely the same as being at home. Like Greyish my only worry is breaking down!

I'm not sure about the safari park, as all the ones I have been to you have to wind down the window at the entrance to pay or show your ticket etc which would make it a no go.

catchyjem · 20/03/2020 09:06

Is the safari park even open?

LambriniSocialist · 20/03/2020 09:06

Yep, using the toilet would be out as well. I would just go for a nice drive somewhere tbh.

Mrsjayy · 20/03/2020 09:07

3 and 1! I read 3 and 10 Blush. I am assuming nappies knock yourself out you are in the car

ShanghaiDiva · 20/03/2020 09:08

Tougher measures will inevitably be introduced if people do not understand the importance of self isolation and social distancing.
My city in China is a zero case city because everything except supermarkets and pharmacies was shut.

Portulaca · 20/03/2020 09:09

Have you got a local National Trust property? Their website explains what is and isn't open at the moment. What is open is free to non members for the time being.

I think it's important that we all get out to get fresh air and exercise whilst we can. We don't know how long this is going to go on for and our mental health is going to take a big hit if we can't leave the house and go somewhere safely for a walk, whilst still exercising social distancing.

EvilPea · 20/03/2020 09:09

Me and my eldest were talking about this, that it would be safe. I wouldn’t if we were isolating with symptoms.
I am torn, one hand they are going to need the money the other We are being repeatedly told to stay in.

ShanghaiDiva · 20/03/2020 09:12

We are being told to stay in for a reason.
Yes, the economic consequences will be massive, but social distancing, self isolation and quarantine measures are the only weapons we have to control this situation.

Sandsnake · 20/03/2020 09:12

Thanks OP for self isolating. Must be bloody tough with kids that young but you’re doing it anyway - not for yourself but to protect others. So many other people in your situation aren’t. For what it’s worth I think the safari idea is great, although I’ve not been so unsure of the intricacies. For those whose knee jerk reaction is to att

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 20/03/2020 09:14

I live by the new forest and we took a drive yesterday to see the horses, It was day 6 for us - kids are 1, 3 & 3.

Sandsnake · 20/03/2020 09:14

Bugger - typing whilst breastfeeding!Grin Was going to say that those whose first instinct was to attack OP for a completely reasonable suggestion - please don’t. OP is one of the good guys who has self isolated for 11 days so far with young kids. We need to support each other and stick together.

AvonBarksdale99 · 20/03/2020 09:15

Forgetting the possible contact with humans side of it (dangeous obviously) I’m not sure how eating a wild bat in China is equivalent to looking at some animals through the window of your car in a UK safari park!!

ShanghaiDiva · 20/03/2020 09:18

Yes, we need to support each other and self isolation is tough. As a China resident I am aware of how tough it is and if places like safari parks stay open and people continue to visit them it will get a lot tougher.
