AIBU to remind people to be mindful of their contraception...

It strikes me that some people might struggle getting repeat prescriptions for the pill, or not able to pick it up or get it delivered, fresh depo shots might not be available on time etc.

And so, given we may end up locked down, and there may be shortages of supplies (pill, condom etc) to be mindful of this so that we don't end up with a lot of unplanned Coronavirus isolation babies in 9 months.

Depending on how things go, access to the MAP, and terminations may be patchy also, so just to remind people to be extra vigilant and to buy in some emergency condoms ;-)

There are bigger things to worry about than when you’re next going to have sex

I doubt people who are ensuring they're up to date on contraception are worrying about when they'll next have sex.
Grin
In fact, they're probably of the opinion it's quite likely, hence contraception.

Splitsunrise · 19/03/2020 16:16

Hahaha I am loving the pearl clutching at this! People have sex! That won’t change whatever is happening in the world Smile
And thanks OP, I am off to double check what I have!

DrDreReturns · 19/03/2020 16:17

Well I had a shag yesterday so shoot me. Obviously I should have been thinking about the virus instead.

tiredanddangerous · 19/03/2020 16:17

I tried to stock up on condoms earlier but the shelves were empty! Dh is more worried about that than the loo roll situation Hmm

Aragog · 19/03/2020 16:18

Can’t believe people are thinking about sex at this time

Do you think there were no babies conceived and born during other times of crisis, such as the two world wars for example?

I can't believe you'd think the whole world would stop seeking physical comfort from their loved ones at a time of confusion and worry.

BusterGonad · 19/03/2020 16:18

Yes you can use condoms, but then you mess up your cycle and hormones by not taking your pill, also using condoms you are more likely to mess up if you are used to the pill. But with friendly reminder I'm sure many mumsnetters are checking their stash and hopefully no surprises will happen in 9 months.

FilthyforFirth · 19/03/2020 16:20

Yes @PumpkinP totally weird that couples who live together forced into quarantine might engage in sex...

Very odd that you are so offended by this!

Good post OP, a useful thing for people to think about in their planning.

Fluffybutter · 19/03/2020 16:21

One of many reasons to be grateful for mirena!
I’d rather never have sex again than have the coil

DreamInLavender · 19/03/2020 16:22

I work for BPAS. We are already having to prioritise clients who are higher gestations. Staff are off sick a lot now meaning services are few and far between. It really is that bad. And even if you get an abortion fine, be prpe1tee that it may well not be as early as you'd have liked.

So if you want one at 5/6 weeks, be prepared to not get one until you're gone 8/9 weeks. Ditto if you're 10 weeks, you might not get one ubtil 16 weeks

Fluffybutter · 19/03/2020 16:22

@PumpkinP oh are there ? I hadn’t noticed ..

JigsawsAreCool · 19/03/2020 16:22

All ivf has been stopped so not to put extra pressure on NHS and cos we don't know the outcome of covid19 on preg for 100% sure. People think prob ok but no one will have had a baby born that has covid19 from early trimester so we just cant say for absolute sure. So defo worth posting op

formerbabe · 19/03/2020 16:25

Actually we drove past the docs today and there was a huge queue outside and dh said people are obviously trying to get their prescriptions in case of lockdown and I did wonder what would happen to women's access to contraception and abortion.

InkieNecro · 19/03/2020 16:26

It's good for the immune system.

notacooldad · 19/03/2020 16:27

*There are bigger things to worry about than when you’re next going to have sex
But I'm not worried about when next going to have sex. I have a pretty good idea when.

bemoreeverything · 19/03/2020 16:27

You don’t NEED to use the pill hmm it’s not hard

If it's not hard nobody will need their contraception Grin

tigerwhocametoT · 19/03/2020 16:27

and a reminder that antibiotics can mess with the efficacy of the contraceptive pill, so use an additional method if you're on antibiotics for any reason.

I thought only certain antibiotics can mess with the pill not all antibiotics e.g those for TB? Can someone clarify this for me please as I'm taking antibiotics for chest infection at the moment.

And thanks for the reminder op I have two months worth, I need to ring Gp for repeat prescription.

Youdreamedmydreamforme · 19/03/2020 16:30

@Thedogscollar I’m not enraged 😂 slightly amused by the ridiculous thread. I would love to live in your life if you think someone putting their point of view across, without swearing or being aggressive in anyway is “enraged” 😂 I do love Mumsnet always good for amusement!

Notredamn · 19/03/2020 16:30

I thought that antibiotics can make you vomit which renders the oral contraceptives ineffective, but if you're not sick it's fine?

LolaSmiles · 19/03/2020 16:33

If it's not hard nobody will need their contraception
You win Grin

userabcname · 19/03/2020 16:37

I've wondered about this! Either we will all be super cautious/ delay ttc or there will be a baby boom in 9 months!

SorryDidISayThatOutLoud · 19/03/2020 16:38

Blimey @Youdreamedmydreamforme. Isn't this all about looking out for each other? No wonder someone dreamed your dream for you. You sound like a big yawn to me.

formerbabe · 19/03/2020 16:45

It's not a ridiculous thread at all.

Access to contraception and family planning is very important and this crisis is going to affect it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/03/2020 16:50

There are bigger things to worry about than when you’re next going to have sex

Oh just have a wank. You’ll feel better!

Youdreamedmydreamforme · 19/03/2020 16:54

@SorryDidISayThatOutLoud it’s a song by dire straits not a personal mantra.

Let’s all calm down and getting wound up by strangers on the internet. It’s embarrassing really I let myself get drawn into these silly things!
