Can anyone in Scotland near Bellahouston Park confirm or deny this rumour?

Just been told by my husband that a 'source' at his work has suggested that the army are assembling at Bellahouston Park in Scotland and that Scotland will be going into lockdown by the end of tonight? Is anyone there who can confirm or deny these rumours? I did read online that the army are being mobilised to facilitate supermarket openings etc and the delivery of O2 tanks to hospitals etc, but this is a new one!
Any further info?

Honestly, I think it’s all just hearsay. I heard it was Strathclyde Park. Irresponsible rumour spreading.

stargirl1701 · 19/03/2020 12:08

More likely to be building temporary hospital facilities than anything else even if they are actually there.

Yabadee · 19/03/2020 12:08

I heard the same OP. Apparently, a guy who used to be in the army has been talking to his ex colleagues who have taken over cross house hospital, patients from there have been taken to Ayr and Glasgow. And they’re setting up at Bellahouston and Strathclyde Parks.

My dad knows the ex army guy so it really a granny’s parrots cousins thing. God knows what’s going on

AgentCooper · 19/03/2020 13:14

Yabadee SIL works at Crosshouse and says it’s business as usual.

SuntanC · 19/03/2020 13:17

Don't listen to any 'source' about anything, unless it's information being broadcast after a Cobra meeting. Jeezo the number of folk 'in the know' really is amazing Hmm

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:19

No.

I work in command for one of the armed services.

Why are people spreading false rumours?

CaraCruise · 19/03/2020 13:22

The army were all seen leaving the Colinton barracks in Edinburgh this morning. Loads and loads of vehicles on lorries. I have seen the photos. No idea where they are going.

Jennywasafriendofminee · 19/03/2020 13:24

It has just been mentioned on FMQs by a MSP that there are troops in Strathclyde park, not sure about Bellahouston though

Willow2017 · 19/03/2020 13:24

The whole of Scotland is going into lockdown but the army are only congregating at Glasgow?
My cousins ex husband's granny heard from the milkman that.....
Why do people listen to this shite?
Ffs!

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:27

The army often do exercises...

What exactly do people think the army are going to do? They are standby to help with supply chains and logistics. Why is this such a big deal?

Willow2017 · 19/03/2020 13:28

Using the army to bolster up and supply services in crisis is nothing new.
Its not like they are going to be roaming the streets shooting civilians!

Taddda · 19/03/2020 13:30

Well I live the opposite end of the country and they have 'camped up' locally here- so not a rumour.

I actually welcome it, especially now the schools are closing

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:31

I think people have an idea that the army are going to be shooting people.

I have to show my pass to get onto the base where I live. There are Military Provost Guard Service (MPGS) on the gate. They are armed, they are not scary. They are doing their job.

slashlover · 19/03/2020 13:35

The army were all seen leaving the Colinton barracks in Edinburgh this morning. Loads and loads of vehicles on lorries. I have seen the photos. No idea where they are going.

Post them.

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:37

Genuine question: are people scared of the armed forces? What do you think they are going to do to you?

Taddda · 19/03/2020 13:43

The 'rumour' is that a D notice has been issued banning reporting of military movements at the moment (full lockdown hasn't been announced yet, panic control..)

Like I said, we actually do need them right now, good for us we have them!

BlackForestCake · 19/03/2020 13:46

The Scottish Government doesn't control the army.

If it's the UK Government ordering this, they wouldn't be locking down just Scotland.

bluejayblue · 19/03/2020 13:47

Members of the Armed Forces are the same as everyone else, they have wives/husbands and children to worry about. They are only different in that they can be sent anywhere, anytime to do anything without being able to refuse! How about having some empathy for them and for their partners and children who have had to learn to carry on without them regardless.
I am a wife of someone who has served 23years (now a civi) and want to send my support, love and thanks to the Armed Forces and their families.

Taddda · 19/03/2020 13:48

They're not @BlackForestCake , its nationwide- I'm not sure what the shock is, it was always going to happen.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/03/2020 13:54

I am know a couple of people that work in Crosshouse, they've said nothing about this. Think it's mostly hearsay, but they have been taking about a lock down by tomorrow.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/03/2020 13:57

Its not like they are going to be roaming the streets shooting civilians!

I think this is what a lot of people seem to think. I don't know why

Windyone · 19/03/2020 13:59

I’m sure stricter measures will come in at some point but for now the government have said no to a lockdown. It’s on all the news feeds.
This sort of stuff is fake news and scaremongering and I wish Mumsnet HQ would delete these threads

Taddda · 19/03/2020 13:59

When the schools officially close, they will deploy the troops- then lockdown coinciding- its needed (and welcomed!)-

There has obviously been a D notice issued.

Boris has also been dropping the term 'war effort' at every opportunity to try to soften the blow, in his own 'Derren Brown' way...Hmm

Taddda · 19/03/2020 14:03

Why would people be scared of an army presence? We're not Afghanistan!

Taddda · 19/03/2020 14:06

They're also 'our' troops!?
