Whilst I'm not saying a lockdown won't happen, stop scaremongering.

You are pretty low. Eithier name sources or piss off.

I understand, but at the moment what we all need to do is stay calm and kind, both to ourselves and to each other. there is no point in getting angered or enraged by the actions of others. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, it applies to us all, and as difficult as I am finding it myself I am trying to remember.

the idea of the virus has grown into something - mainly due to the media and misinformation - that has allowed us (as a collective) to forget that this virus is a virus, and it's airborne - it is spread by us being too close together. conversely, the spread will slow if more of us distance ourselves from each other.

we all have a job now, and it's for the health service - and for many of us that job will be to stay at home, either alone or with our families and try not to get sick. and if we do get sick, we look after ourselves until we get better, and if we don't get sick we help those who do.

‘Zero prospect’ of London lockdown
There is "zero prospect of any restrictions being placed on travelling in and out of London”, the UK government has said.

A spokesperson said there were also “no plans to use military personnel for public order during the coronavirus pandemic”.

Asked to comment on the suggestion only one person would be allowed to leave a house at a time, Downing Street said this was "not true”, according to BBC political correspondent Chris Mason.

It comes after speculation London could face a lockdown by the weekend.

prospects and plans change, and change quickly. tomorrow's news will be different from today's.

@PlomBear

But, but, but....I know it's true. My cat has an uncle high up in the military and he told me over breakfast this morning that the army were coming to shoot anyone that moved in a big game of musical statues across London Grin

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 14:23

Either way the damage is done with people already fleeing and no upside.

the media and the government have sold the virus as a lie. panic buying toilet roll really is not helpful when it comes to stopping the spread of an airborne disease.

the way to curb the spread is to keep a distance from each other. we can do that peacefully and mindfully, but there is a chance not all of us will. there are only a finite supply of policemen - the next stage will be to use the army.

if we can calmly accept this, we can also stop the spread of the hysteria and complacency. this will not go away until we take action.

People aren’t stocking up because they believe toilet paper will save them from an airborne respiratory disease.

They are stocking up to have supplies for a 14day+ lockdown at home if it proves necessary.

You must know that really.

mausmausmaus · 19/03/2020 14:44

police! sorry! was watching cartoons with the kids, head's a bit up my arse x

I understand that, but are they all staying at home? when we go into a lockdown, supplies will still be available. people will not be expected to stay indoors for 14+ days without having the chance to restock, unless in self-isolation.

ArriettyJones · 19/03/2020 15:00

I’m semi-self-isolating already because of chronic health conditions. DH is with me because his freelance work just stopped dead (finished a 6 month contract last week and all future bookings cancelled). DD is with us because severe asthma. So, there are people like us.

Also, we’ve just had a year of gloomy predictions about Brexit and possible effects on food supplies so that’s in the back of people’s minds. (Thankfully, I was concerned enough by that & health conditions to slowly stock up over recent months so I don’t have to go out raiding supermarkets.)

Also, anxiety is contagious. People worry about feeding their families.

I know much of it is illogical but fear ID illogical.

I honestly think a bit more proactive guidance from the government would help. They seem to be two days behind constantly.
