Whilst I'm not saying a lockdown won't happen, stop scaremongering.

You are pretty low. Eithier name sources or piss off.

OP posts:

Maus financial times report of her heavily hinting that london is ahead of the curve and likley to face harsh measures very soon, and then refering to the COBRA meeting.

Frangipanini · 19/03/2020 06:48

I don't think BJ will enforce a complete lockdown. What's the point of locking down sparse populations in the middle of the countryside for no benefit whilst you can ask them to keep away from each other. I think they will do what they think will get the job down and that is it.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 19/03/2020 06:54

I think it is very likely. That's what has happened everywhere else after schools closed.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 07:01

40 stations closed in London -good

The Independent

HasaDigaEebowai · 19/03/2020 07:07

Surely people in London are glad of the warning. Some countries did it very quickly without any warning and that must have bene extremely difficult. At least people can prepare and try to make sure they have the things they need.

Its such a shame people didn't comply with the social distancing measures. We might have managed to avoid it for a bit longer.

AdriannaP · 19/03/2020 07:07

Nearly all major cities in Europe are in lockdown - you really think that London will be the exception? Lockdown will be inevitable unless we want thousands more to die.

midgebabe · 19/03/2020 07:29

Lock down everywhere, even rural areas has been needed in other countries, even if it follows that in major cities

People there are surviving and in a week or so time should see the benefit in terms of declining death rates

notimagain · 19/03/2020 08:14

If you want to stamp on this virus there's little point in locking down London and then letting the rest of the UK population continue to go their merry way with a just a plea for social distancing, as if they are somehow special....

In other countries it's a national "lockdown" which includes all rural areas and is rigorously enforced policed even in the rural areas.

..and FWIW lockdown European style is highly inconvenient but highly survivable, I'm not sure why some seem to think it would be some sort of special problem if enforced nationwide in the UK. We all want to get on top of the spread of this virus - don't we?

DeeCeeCherry · 19/03/2020 09:15

I heard its total lockdown from today. That's what MN has been confidently saying since last night. Clearly wrong however, as I'm in London walking to work now. The announcement will come when it does. There's no point scaremongering and sending folks anxiety through the roof, pretending you have inside info. It's just know-it-all know nothings, and rumour. Just prepare as best you can.

When lockdown comes and no Im not going to pretend I know date + all details, then I hope it will encompass whole of UK. Not just cities. I have no faith in government leadership here or that they could ever be as organised as EU countries are. So I will wait and see.

Wonder what the point was of closing 40 London tube stations that are lesser used? All you'd have to do in most cases is walk or bus it down the road to the next one and no doubt you'll pass a London Overground, DLR or National Rail station on your way too. Its not a lockdown, as so many stations are open. So much for Bo Jo decisiveness on all this.

Perhaps rest of EU can force him to take action but how shameful if they have to.

bemoreeverything · 19/03/2020 09:19

I heard its total lockdown from today.

It must be true then

Yogibear13 · 19/03/2020 09:30

Surely people in London are glad of the warning

I'm sure they are, but surely too much warning sort of defeats the point though. I have friends in London who will all get on a train the second this is announced and go and stay with family elsewhere.

DeeCeeCherry · 19/03/2020 11:00

Surely people in London are glad of the warning

We can await government announcements, and check WHO, Gov. UK etc. Rumours and scaremongering from the uninformed/armchair MPs etc do not help - they cause ever more panic anxiety and misinformation.

When lockdown official announcement comes, we will know.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 11:07

The warning is what spreads CV to new hotspots - like Italy

IStressheadI · 19/03/2020 11:09

Think we all deserve a bloody lockdown with the way people are behaving.

nutmegbrew · 19/03/2020 11:15

I think they are purposefully staggering announcements and hinting at each next step to minimize panic and allow people time to adjust mentally to the massive change in our way of life. Lockdowns are coming but if people just abide then we'll all get through it. Just be sensible follow nhs and gov advice and don't panic buy etc and hopefully it will all be over sooner rather than later!

Cohle · 19/03/2020 11:16

Wonder what the point was of closing 40 London tube stations that are lesser used?

Staffing presumably. Every member of TFL staff with a cough is off work remember.

Eckhart · 19/03/2020 11:17

When I saw the thread title i thought you meant people in lockdown have got lost - ie they were out somewhere when lockdown was declared and couldn't find their way home

Me too. OP is accidentally scaremongering by semantic ambiguity.

Cohle · 19/03/2020 11:17

I think they are purposefully staggering announcements and hinting at each next step to minimize panic and allow people time to adjust mentally to the massive change in our way of life.

Yes I agree. I wonder if they want the population of London thinned out anyway to make food supply chains easier.

mausmausmaus · 19/03/2020 11:29

@bluejayblue - thanks for clarifying! I'll look it up.

for everyone that is accusing of scaremongering, and for those that are panicking, please remember - we are dealing with a contagious disease. the best way to stop it is to restrict the movement of people, and to distance ourselves from each other. we can try not to panic, and try to do it calmly, but some people will not comply and for their safety and the safety of others it will need to be enforced. there is absolutely no need for enforcement to be violent, it is for our safety. the idea for some people is a bit frightening, which is completely understandable. it will be best for everyone (including you, and me, and everyone we both know) to try to stay as calm as possible.

mausmausmaus · 19/03/2020 11:30

and I know that's far easier said than done! no criticism towards anyone, I am grateful for all your efforts.

covetingthepreciousthings · 19/03/2020 11:31

Think we all deserve a bloody lockdown with the way people are behaving.

This!

Eckhart · 19/03/2020 11:32

I think there's a difference between saying 'There'll be a lockdown soon', which is a sensible conclusion, and saying 'Lockdown tonight!', based on what you personally surmise or have been told by your auntie who knows someone whose dog's vet used to be in the army.

Yogibear13 · 19/03/2020 11:45

wonder if they want the population of London thinned out anyway to make food supply chains easier.

But if lots of people leave London then they're just going to put the services there (food supply chains, hospitals etc) under stress instead. London has enough for Londoners, and will continue to do so even in a lockdown, so there's no need to thin it out.

mausmausmaus · 19/03/2020 11:46

things are uncertain, and that causes confusion. we are getting to the stage where both the hysteria towards the virus, and at the other end of the scale the complacency towards the virus are possibly just as dangerous as the virus itself. many people have lost their lives, many people have lost their loved ones. the best thing for us all to do is to react to what's happening as calmly as we can, and accept that for the moment we may have to make those reactions quickly. we all have worries for the future, but we all must try to put those worries aside for the moment and act on what's happening and work with the disruptions instead of against them.

SuntanC · 19/03/2020 12:09

I'm sure everyone knows it'll happen at some point. However, what is UNBEARABLE is the sheer volume of idiots coming on with their 'definite' info, always suspiciously at least 3rd hand, about where, when and how. These people NEED to stfu. Nobody sensible believes you when you say you have 'reliable sources' because if you did, they'd sure as hell not be telling you so you could plaster it all over mumsnet! The annoying thing is, when it does happen, these cretins will think everyone will now believe they spoke the truth. They won't. The fact you are correct on one occasion works on the same principle of the stopped clock being right twice a day. STOP IT NOW. We will hear after the Cobra meeting that decides it, NOT BEFORE! And certainly not from a bloody chat forum ffs.
