Whilst I'm not saying a lockdown won't happen, stop scaremongering.

You are pretty low. Eithier name sources or piss off.

OP posts:

What is the problem with lockdown? It’s not scaremongering. It’s sensible and will save lives.

daisypond · 19/03/2020 03:19

And I’m in London.

ArriettyJones · 19/03/2020 03:28

@Monty27 London is being dubbed the “superspreader city”. It’s about demographics, prevalence and patterns of public transport, high rate of international travel, density of housing. It’s a social geography thing.

Some people have misunderstood.

Monty27 · 19/03/2020 03:40

@ArriettyJones
Misunderstood indeed. Some people just don't understand statistics nor demographics. Still, they will perhaps become more knowledgeable in time 🤷

ArriettyJones · 19/03/2020 03:42

Ah sorry. Explaining to the informed. Again Grin

The problem is the misunderstandings spread so fast, don’t they?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/03/2020 03:43

I heard that Boris is announcing it on Friday.

No seriously. I am friends with the wife of a senior civil servant and she said so on Facebook.

So it must be true.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 03:45

People have disregarded social distancing in huge numbers so it’s unsurprising, and I’m not convinced they modelled for this level of stupidity.

People will flee

If the mayor said it then sounds like it’s imminent

mausmausmaus · 19/03/2020 03:45

@bluejayblue - genuinely asking, is there any reason you think nicola's involved?

crazydiamond222 · 19/03/2020 03:47

Does anyone know how much of London this will apply to e.g greater London or just the central boroughs. What is the case in other European cities?

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 03:48

Although I’d rather it than what’s happening atm

ArriettyJones · 19/03/2020 03:51

I’d guess at all London Boroughs @crazydiamond222 but it is just a hunch.

More big country parks round the edges for your daily one hour walk though, and a bit note space generally.

I can’t see how you exercising whilst social distancing would work on Clapham Common for example.

Monty27 · 19/03/2020 03:58

@ArriettyJones hopefully all will have learned something on time if only to help themselves and others. Rather than being batshit crazy. Smile

ArriettyJones · 19/03/2020 04:00

This is why more announcements, quicker decisions, greater detail would help (Ahem if anybody in Westminster is reading.)

I am sure it will all work out quite smoothly once everyone understands the exact plan. Mainland Europe seem to be bearing up really impressively. Which means our government also have RL examples to look at.

crazydiamond222 · 19/03/2020 04:04

Thanks Arrietty. My son has an ehcp so they are keeping his special school open but it is in outer London and we live in the home counties so no idea how that is meant to work.

ArriettyJones · 19/03/2020 04:09

I’m sure school run will be considered essential travel, especially considering it’s the ECHP- having children they’ve decided to keep provision open for.

Does he have taxi transport?

crazydiamond222 · 19/03/2020 04:26

Yes a taxi and an escort but I am thinking about keeping him at home as my husband has health issues but dont want to lose his ehcp package long term.

theDudesmummy · 19/03/2020 05:10

It is not scaremongering. London will lock down in days.

DitheringDoris · 19/03/2020 05:52

@crazydiamond222 I don’t think they will keep special schools open, my sons closed on Tuesday due to the health conditions of most of the pupils, not because teachers or children were ill or isolating. If they keep special schools open it might be for respite or for children with key worker parents. I think there’s some confusion about what the PM said.

OnUp · 19/03/2020 05:58

OP - I'm sorry but I think you're wrong.
People need to be vigilant and prepared, but not panicking. So few seemed to take it seriously.
If you want sources or examples....how about Italy, Spain, China ?!

Lynda07 · 19/03/2020 06:08

When I saw the thread title i thought you meant people in lockdown have got lost - ie they were out somewhere when lockdown was declared and couldn't find their way home :-). That is typical of me.

Nobody is scaremongering, we are going into lockdown - tomorrow I think or over the weekend. It's nothing to be scared of! We've had a few weeks to prepare and gradually buy things we need before the shops emptied, we'll be fine. Think of it as a sort of hibernation, when we emerge the weather will be hot.

KatherineJaneway · 19/03/2020 06:11

Not scaremongering, the truth. It is highly likely we will be in lockdown, in London anyway, in the next few days. Best to be prepared mentally for that than it come as a huge shock which, almost unbelievably, it will to some.

Fortheselfemployed · 19/03/2020 06:19

Lynda07 Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 19/03/2020 06:21

I hope it happens uk wide the sooner the better.

I have daft friends who are carrying on regardless. Gym, lunches out, etc. One of whom is in the highest risk category due to an organ transplant! But she hasn’t had her letter yet telling her to stay home!

wonkytonkwoman · 19/03/2020 06:31

Lynda07 - so did I! Confused

DitheringDoris · 19/03/2020 06:31

Watching the news it looks like we are already going into a gentle lockdown in London, people now being advised not to travel on public transport unless essential, stations closing and services cut.
