What will lockdown actually entail?

We can't really go out now so what will be the difference when / if we get to lockdown?
Can we still go shopping? Walks etc?

OP posts:
willdoitinaminute · 18/03/2020 21:01

Essential trips for shopping only for most people. And then only one person will be allowed out. No family outings to Tesco. Probably will have to print a certificate off the gov website to present to anyone who asks. Hopefully you be able to use mobile phone or app to do it. One thing I didn’t panic buy was ink for the printer.

viccat · 18/03/2020 21:14

Lots of people are currently going out as usual! It will be like social distancing but enforced so if you are already doing that, you probably won't notice a big difference.

A friend is currently living in France and they can be stopped by authorities when out to ask why they are out - only essential things are allowed, like trips to the shops.

dazzlinghaze · 18/03/2020 21:16

My partner and I don't live together but have been isolating together. If we go into lockdown would we still be able to go between both our homes like we are now? We both live alone so no risk of infecting anyone and it would just be out into the car then back into the house. We've been doing this as I work for the NHS so still have to go to work but I don't drive so go by bus and it's easier to get there from my flat but it's a bit pokey for the two of us to be in for a long period of time. So on my days off we've been going back to his. Unsure if lockdown would mean we have to stick to the one place.

Sittingonthefence83 · 18/03/2020 21:21

So we'll still be able to go out a buy food then? My 'D'H told me that we wouldn't be allowed out even to buy food, I think he's just trying to be all dramatic and scare me for some weird reason?!

RhymingRabbit3 · 18/03/2020 21:28

Of course people will be allowed to buy food, they dont want half the country to starve to death! It will probably be limited e.g. one person from the household out at a time, limited number of people allowed in the shop at a time, only a certain time allowed or number of items.

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 21:29

In France we can go out for food, medicine, justified essential work that cannot be done from home and for limited exercise.

We have to carry a government issued document with us stating that we are out for one of the above reasons.

Only a certain number of people can be in a shop at one time and we have to keep distant.

RhymingRabbit3 · 18/03/2020 21:32

The main difference will be that places will be actually closed. Currently half my friends are still going to the pub, soft play with their kids, visiting the in laws for mothers day etc. A proper lockdown will prevent that.

AvocadoOwl · 18/03/2020 21:35

We have to carry a government issued document with us stating that we are out for one of the above reasons.

How do you get a government issued document for a trip to the shops?

Tatapie · 18/03/2020 21:37

Are any businesses open or is it just food shops?

Sittingonthefence83 · 18/03/2020 21:40

Ahh thank you @rhymingrabbit3 that sounds absolutely fine then! Phew 😅

Evennow · 18/03/2020 21:40

Friends in Spain can go out singly (don’t know the regs about single parent with child(ren), to buy food, to go to a pharmacy or medical facility or to walk the dog. Police patrolling & asking questions

TrudysTerribleFringe · 18/03/2020 21:41

For shops to open there will need to be retail staff, delivery drivers, warehouse operatives, Farmers, people at ports.

So lots of people will be still going to work?

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 21:41

It’ll stop a large chunk treating it like a holiday

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/03/2020 21:42

I presume as a single parent I'll be allowed to take DS shopping with me. He's 6 so I can't leave him home alone.

I keep hearing rumours of an imminent lockdown on Friday.

Somebodystired · 18/03/2020 21:43

The only thing I'm worried about is contact with my DSS. He is currently with his mum and me and his dad and brother are in isolation for another week and a half, but if we go into lockdown and he cannot physically travel between his two homes, god knows how long it will be until we see him!

BitchHazel · 18/03/2020 21:45

I don't understand the government document thing - surely if you can just print them off a website you would be able to present it regardless of your real reason for being out?

Not that I intend to break the rules or anything, I just don't see how taking people's word/a piece of paper is going to help enforce anything.

elQuintoConyo · 18/03/2020 21:45

I'm in Spain.
We can leave the house one at a time for:
Food shopping (nearest shop)
Going to a pharmacy
Walking the dog.

That's it.

No kids allowed outside, can't walk the dog with your partner. Total shutdown. Or shitdown, as I'm now referring to it.

My 8yo is making lots of videos to share between friends, WhatsApp messages, they're doing the 30 day Lego challenge together.

DH and I are both working from home, lots of homework/worksheets for dS. We're in a flat, it's been raining but sunny tomorrow, so we'll go up to the roof to hang clothes and maybe shout into the wind!

There are rumours this is going to last another 4-6 weeks. Today's is day 4, feels like 400 Hmm

Boredbumhead · 18/03/2020 21:45

Will we.be able to walk in the forest as a family or on the beach?

BabloHoney · 18/03/2020 21:47

Wondering if post will be delivered or rubbish collected?

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 21:48

@BitchHazel I was thinking that too! I could print off twenty bits of paper and go out and about all day long.

I won't because the folk that are still wandering about scare me and I feel safer at home. Maybe being questioned by police or military will just make 99% of people not chance it!

TheFormidableMrsC · 18/03/2020 21:48

I'm very worried about kids not being allowed out. It appears ludicrous given they've only just shut the schools. My son is 9, I'm a single mum. What the hell am I supposed to do about shopping for food etc. I wish we had some absolutely clear guidance.

whydontkidscomewithauserguide · 18/03/2020 21:50

It's such a frightening situation for most people and shows how vulnerable we are.... we are due to move house on 31st March, do you think this would be stopped in a lock down situation? That's got to be the next step surely.

BillieEilish · 18/03/2020 21:53

No, beaches are shut in Spain, police on beaches. No walking in the forest!

Lockdown.

I do take my DD with me to shops to limit the number of times I have to go, she helps carry. I am a lone parent, she is 11. No problems yet.

elQuintoConyo · 18/03/2020 21:54

Beach no, woods no. Everyone would have the same idea and it'd be packed like sardines!

I'm not sure what single parents do, I'd imagine take your child with you. 9 is old enough not to touch everything in sight!

halcyondays · 18/03/2020 21:54

Hopefully the Government will step in and force pubs and other places to close. I’m absolutely horrified that Haven are keeping their sites open, although closing down entertainment etc. Putting on a strain on rural health care like in North Wales if people on holiday catch it.

Centerparcs have done the decent thing and closed for now.

Butlins are closing on Friday but operating as normal until then. So all those people crammed in watching the entertainment and eating the buffet. Then going back home to spread the Coronavirus locally.
