What will lockdown actually entail?

We can't really go out now so what will be the difference when / if we get to lockdown?
Can we still go shopping? Walks etc?

So, what happens about dcs and contact with NRP?

And visiting DP locally?

sensol · 18/03/2020 23:58

The rules are very strict here I don't know about the access to children for the non resident parent we really are not allowed to leave the house unless it is for the reasons I've stated.
Visiting parents, partners, friends etc is not allowed unless they need care.

I'm on 'shelter in place' in the Bay Area. This explains what is and isn't still open/operational: sf.gov/stay-home-except-essential-needs

We are still getting post and deliveries, and public transport is running but we're only supposed to use it if we have an essential need. Everyone who can is working from home so there are far fewer commuters and the broadband networks were creaking under the strain today!

NormaLouiseBates · 19/03/2020 00:08

@sensol thank you. It does sound very strict 😕

sensol · 19/03/2020 00:10

@NormaLouiseBates
No problem I have tried to search the rules regarding nrp but my Spanish is terrible and I have drawn a blank so far ☹️

sensol · 19/03/2020 00:19

Spain has always been quite rigid anyway with a lot of its laws etc so the lack of leniency is not really a huge surprise. For example we can't buy paracetamol or simple medications in supermarkets. They stick very rigidly to Sunday opening hours which means most shops remain shut. We must carry identification when driving at all times as well as glasses wearers having to have a spare pair of glasses in the car etc. I have friends who have been fined for putting rubbish in the bins before 8pm. Our rules do tend to differ anyway somewhat from the UK.

I think the problem is if you don't give clear rules then obviously some people will think it does not apply to them. it is all for the greater good and if we see those numbers going down that will make it worth it.

We have no printer for papers.

Beachcomber · 19/03/2020 07:41

You may not have the document introduced in the UK. Personally I think it is necessary and I also think it is a very clever way of managing the situation by making us take responsibility and think about our actions in a non authoritarian way.

You don't need a printer here. Most people's workplaces gave them numerous photocopies and you can hand write the certificate yourself.

A friend of mine has hand written it and is using tippex to change the date for example.

It is meant to be a minor inconvenience so that we take a moment and THINK before we act. I suspect the British population will be up in arms if asked to do something similar though. France is a socialist country - we have a well developed sense of citizenship and duty to the state (a benevolant state which in turn serves the people) . If you listen to Macron's speech and can understand French you will see that in the way he addressed the French people.

Culturally the UK and France are very different. It will be interesting to see how things will be done in the UK.

In Spain you can't go and visit people, no. Unless it's an elderly erson who needs help, and then only one person can go at a time.

Public transport is reduced but still running. But to be used for only necessary journeys, i.e to go to work.

If you don't live together, you can't see each other. No idea how NRP works, but I imagine in Spain the idea is that it's a temporary measure so the NRP just has to wait until restrictions are lifted. There has been no mention anywhere of allowing children to swap homes for contact.

BirdandSparrow · 19/03/2020 08:52

That's not to say lockdown conditions in the UK will be the same, or even come into force. The UK so far seems very very slow to do much. I think Spain has the strictest lockdown in Europe, you may not end up being so restricted. And even here, it's shit in a lot of ways, but you manage.
Don't freak out, it's the uncertainty that's the worst. Once it happens you ahve no choice but to make the best of it.

Another question that just occurred to me about lock down - if I develop symptoms during lock down so have to self isolate for 7 days and thus cannot go out to get food, do you think someone else would be allowed to go and get me things like food/soap/painkillers and leave it outside my door? I do probably have enough of all of these in at the moment, but if locked down for a while they will start running low unless I buy extra every so often, which I am not sure I should be doing as I want to leave enough for everyone. Home delivery isn't going to work unless slots start to become available sooner than 2 weeks in the future.

SittingAround1 · 19/03/2020 13:08

To answer some questions in France ( which I get the impression is less strict than Spain) there is a reduced transport service running for people who need to go to work if they can't work from home.

You can help out eldery/ in need relatives and deliver them food. You can't make social visits. Divorced parents are still allowed to stick to regular contact arrangements.

Internet delivery is working here. Amazon I think as well. The post office is open.

There was a bit of panic buying at the weekend and on Monday but that's all so everything is now available.

Are schools open at all? In my area special schools are fully open and the others all providing childcare. I wonder if this stops in a lockdown?
