What will lockdown actually entail?

We can't really go out now so what will be the difference when / if we get to lockdown?
Can we still go shopping? Walks etc?

No children allowed out?! I live alone with 2 under 2? How will i get food and supplies without taking them with me?

BillieEilish · 18/03/2020 21:56

As a lone parent, it's pretty clear you are going to the shops.

Of course I could leave DD at home but in these times, what if something happened to me? Plus, as I said, she helps carry which limits trips.

No home delivery.

sylbunny · 18/03/2020 21:57

I hope we do go that way. My office of 1000 plus people is still open and we haven't been given permission to work from home despite the fact that we have laptops etc

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 18/03/2020 22:05

@whydontkidscomewithauserguide we're also due to move house on the 31st - currently all our belongings are in storage and we can't bring forward the date. We would effectively be homeless if we can't move then.

Do you think a removals company would be able to work in a lockdown? It's not work you can exactly do from home. What about tradespeople?

1984isnow · 18/03/2020 22:05

Can anyone currently in lockdown tell me if you can visit relatives?

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 22:14

@AvocadoOwl our workplaces provided us with the document but it's on the government website too. I think it's OK to have a digital copy too.

@Tatapie I don't know what sort of things are open as I haven't been out since the beginning of the lockdown. As far as I know only food shops, chemists and newsagents are allowed to stay open.

Some companies have not totally closed but everyone who can is working from home.

poppym12 · 18/03/2020 22:16

Another one due to move house next week @whydontkidscomewithauserguide & @BridgetJonesDaiquiri. It's stressful enough already without wondering where the hell I'll be living and whether I'll have my stuff with me.

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 22:18

@BitchHazel I know what you mean about the document. It's not difficult to get it and it is a self signed honesty system. I think it is really designed to make people think and also to make sure that we are aware of the rules. You can be stopped by the police and fined if you don't have it.

MonaChopsis · 18/03/2020 22:22

Those single parents in lock down already, are any of you managing contact with your kids' Dad?? How do custody arrangements work, or do the kids have to stay with the parent they are with when lock down is enforced??

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 22:23

@1984isnow we are only allowed to visit relatives if they are sick or vulnerable and need us to help them by dropping off groceries, etc. It is a personal choice if you decide to nurse someone who is sick. No visits just to see people though.

We are allowed out to walk the dog within a "reasonable" distance from our home but must practice social distancing.

BitchHazel · 18/03/2020 22:24

In that case I hope they accept a copy on a mobile screen. I don't have easy access to a printer and going to an internet café or library to access one (if that's even possible) seems counter-intuitive.

I'll be working every day. Do people need a paper for that?

popgoesperfection · 18/03/2020 22:24

What about driving up the road to relatives? Will we be able to do that (if no one is showing any symptoms that is?)

Confusedasusual78 · 18/03/2020 22:29

I’m worried about never being able to take my child even to a large open space 😬being stuck indoors for that amount of time can’t be healthy for them

Generic1 · 18/03/2020 22:32

I've been reading a few threads and haven't seen an answer yet...

But can we go out in the garden? I've got a completely fenced in sizeable garden and two kids...surely I can take them into that?

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 22:32

Here in France if you physically go to your place of work you must carry paperwork from your company stating what your job is and that you cannot do it from home.

We can only drive to see relatives if we can attest that they need help. As I say I haven't been out but apparently there are police checks.

My PIL live up the road from us and they are doing fine so we can't go to see them. We are whatsapping them daily to check they are OK.

popgoesperfection · 18/03/2020 22:34

Sorry @Beachcomber just seen your response. So day to day you are mostly just seeing the person/people you live with!?! @Confusedasusual78 I'm feeling the same, my ds will be stir crazy by the end of the first week !!

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 22:35

@Generic1 we are allowed out in the garden.

When I say I haven't been out I mean off my property. I sat out in the garden today in the sun and it was nice. My neighbors kids were playing badminton in their garden. We waved and shouted hello but kept our distance (neighbor is pregnant so I'm not going anywhere near her or her family)

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 22:38

I've only seen / talked to my DC and my DH.

I waved at my neighbors and waved at some people I don't know who were walking with a pram past my house.

I've also been home working all day so having lots of meetings / online interaction.

It's OK so far but it's only the second day!

Confusedasusual78 · 18/03/2020 22:40

‘Some people walking past with a pram’

So are we allowed, for example to take our baby/toddler for a walk together?

StrawberryDaiquiriPlease · 18/03/2020 22:42

Are teachers going into work to look after vulnerable children in other European cities?

Beachcomber · 18/03/2020 22:43

As far as I'm aware in France families who are living together can go out for exercise together. They just have to each carry the document.

Confusedasusual78 · 18/03/2020 22:46

Ahh that’s not as bad, I thought it said only one person at a time 😢

pomegranatefizz · 18/03/2020 22:49

Another one supposed to be moving house next week, massively stressed that we might not be able to!

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 22:49

It depends on the conditions of the lockdown. In Spain it's very strict. We can only go out if absolutely necessary : to go to work and back, as many places as possible are working from home, to buy food, go the pharmacy, walk dog briefly, take food etc to elderly people. No exercise. Only one person in a car at a time. Exceptions for those with young children who can't be left alone, but basically you go out as little as possible.
You can be fined for breaking these conditions.

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 22:50

In Spain we can't go for a walk. One person only walking the dog.

Schools are completely shut, no children are going to school at all.
