People ignoring restrictions will hasten lockdown...london example

Have just driven back from a hospital appt through South london, streets busy, Costa coffees full of big groups, cafes full etc.

I am worried that people not obeying the rules will force the govt to enforce total lockdown sooner than otherwise.

Definitely think that if we shouldn't be in cafes etc they must be forced to close. They know it is coming so of course they are going to try and get money and custom up to the last minute if they can. I don't blame them, I am so sad for some of my local businesses. But if it has to be done we'd better do it properly.

I have a horrible suspicion that a lot more people are ill in London that we thought, and many probably aymptomatic or presymptomatic, sitting in Costa...

We’ve had so many people in to a non essential service, people walking up to me and I start walking backwards...mostly over 70s but many children being kept of school

We are where we are now, in this terrible virus situation, the world over.. If all the worlds experts are trying to deal with this, as in shutting down everything everywhere, you have to trust them..

It is not some fanciful thing to do,as in stopping aircraft from flying anywhere, stopping cruise liners from docking, stopping trains from running,, closing borders to other countries etc..

You have to face the fear now,, go along with the plans, and come out the other end, and hope for the best for everyone.

Modern science is great, all the nurses and doctors. are great everywhere.. Special experts all over the world, are trying to make new vaccines for this awful virus.

I do really believe, that the locking down of peope is the best thing, despite all the hardships for many.People can overcome all sorts of horrible trials in life in dire circumstances.

itsniceoopnorth · 19/03/2020 05:41

I wonder what will happen if they try to enforce a lockdown. Civil disobedience ? Probably. The Army involved ? Who knows. What level of force could be applied ? A significant minority in this country have zero regard for law and order. God help us when the weather starts to improve if we are still locked down

Are people stupid? In denial? Blissfully ignorant?

Do they not realise hundreds of thousands of people are about to die? Haven’t they seen the videos from Italian hospitals?

ivykaty44 · 19/03/2020 05:57

Are people stupid? In denial? Blissfully ignorant?

A mixture of all three

Thymelord · 19/03/2020 06:28

In my opinion, people are selfish and stupid. I've just walled the dog and people were queuing outside Asda at ten to six and they were ALL young people under 50 or so.

I am increasingly angry that the government will not make it crystal clear what needs to be done. As it is I'm off to work in an office where the fee earners go into different people's houses 4 times a day and meetings are being held with people who've travelled 100+ miles on trains. As long as we keep making money, fuck peoples health eh. I could cry!

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 06:55

Selfish and stupid

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 06:58

ItsNice I don’t think there will be civil unrest. As long as we can eat (which we will be able to, in fact it may get better with supply) we’ll be like the other countries on lockdown.

Rosehip10 · 19/03/2020 07:03

People queuing outside a zone 3 branch of fitness first at 6 this morning. Nero busier than I have ever seen it at this time with people sitting dowv Hmm

The next BoJo speech will be "we asked you nicely London, but sadly we need to enforce this"

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 07:05

Rosehip that is crazy.

MyuMe · 19/03/2020 07:10

@TiddyTid

Twats are coming here in droves to East Suffolk. You selfish bastards. Hospitals are an hour away and already an elderly demographic. You've also been assisting in emptying the shelves. Don't come here, you really and truly are not welcome. (Not that you were in the first place)

You aren't welcome in my home town either

Ipswich and lowestoft being prime examples of a place I hope my eyes never see again.

Utterly apocalyptic without a pandemic Wink

marshabradyo

Male and fat?? You’re a nice person, aren’t you...

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 07:13

There is nothing that will get through to people that will cause higher deaths not even their own higher risk (Male and overweight)

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 07:14

If they showed an ounce of care for vulnerable people who will die due to their actions I wouldn’t be so harsh

Snowy111 · 19/03/2020 07:15

Mother’s Day this weekend and without a lockdown (outside the probable London one) there’s going to be packed pubs and restaurants and (non-essential) shopping centres

GlamGiraffe · 19/03/2020 07:19

I have a tiny house in zone 1 currently an office and a much larger house where we live 8n zone 4 with outdoor space on the edge of hampstead heath (and lots of people walking around the streets) given central london desertion, where is safer?

GlamGiraffe · 19/03/2020 07:25

My ep year old step don has zero understanding of the rules and is still galavanting around socialising as ever. We keep explaining to him but he seems to have zero comprehension of the situation (also fidnt understand why he shouldn't ho yo Paris last weekend and everything was then closed, didnt understand why🙄) some people actually need controlling as they are actually too stupid to understand I conclude)

OnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 19/03/2020 07:30

Partial closure of the underground from today

I think they are passing the Coronavirus Bill in Parliament today? I expect it will have something about the use of police/military force to ensure people follow to rules.

CeibaTree · 19/03/2020 08:29

@HooverVacuum would you have been less horrified by his surliness if he had not been Asian? Why mention it?

AutumnRose1 · 19/03/2020 09:08

Glam, that all sounds very glam.

I’d opt for where you have more physical space.

How old is your son? Some typos there.

oreoxoreo · 19/03/2020 09:17

People are stupid including my boyfriend who is still gallivanting seeing his friends. I wfh, kids will be off school from tomorrow close, I've cut my socialising entirely. I would still go to basic shopping, walks, help out neighbours, but that's about it. Firstly I want the society recover and go back to normal sooner rather than later. Not listening will just extend the peak of the virus. And secondly, I don't fancy the virus itself and the long term effects it might give (loss of lung capacity etc) so I'd rather prevent than risk getting it.

PeterWeg · 19/03/2020 09:34

". If we do not we are going to exceed ICU capacity in three weeks and that cannot happen"

ICU is full now. In three weeks there will be twenty times the number of customers to beds.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 09:35

PeterWeg exactly

And yet people still want a pint gym cafe

DeeCeeCherry · 19/03/2020 10:56

I walked past local library on way to work (I'm a lone worker anyway) . Its full - /parents with school aged children. When did schools close - today? & already, they're out and about. It's not even afternoon yet. Wonder how they'll cope with months of isolation at home.

They won't they'll go out
