All healthcare should get a pay rise

Hi
I would like to get peoples views on all healthcare staff to get a pay rise.
Especially nhs staff.
I work in the nhs as a nursing assistant and I am really scared of catching it.

I have 2 daughters who I've kept off school as they are asthmatic.

We have been told unless we are sick with the cornavirus then we still have to go work regardless.

What is everyone's opinion

I signed up to help people. Not to possibly die. That doesn’t mean I won’t do everything I can though, I’m doing an extra shift tonight (on my break). Look at the list of people who have died

I agree. But other workers are going to be risking it too. I work with special needs children all with EHMP so all eligible to continue in school. So easily able to spread it from home contacts to me. I have 2 young children who I go home to. I will also have to put my children into another school for key worker kids , so introducing them to another group of potential carriers.....

The thing is that yes people in shops and in schools might be in contact with sick people. Healthcare workers will be in contact with sick people. Probably the sickest of the sick people. Watching people die, trying to do your best to keep them comfortable. While worrying about your own health and your family. Yes you might be snottered on by a sick child but it is not comparable. Not at all.

Yes, we know. That is what being a healthcare worker entails. Why do you think that you should be given an instant pay rise? I asked the OP earlier which other groups she believes should be given publicly funded pay rises, listing examples: people working in power generation and water treatment plants, social workers, people working in supermarkets and the food supply chain. No response. Just her.

Toatally agree ! Yes healthcare workers should get a pay rise, especially as not only are they underpaid for their work, conditions also need addressing. Also Common in healthcare that many experience bullying from co-workers.

I don’t want a pay rise and I don’t think we should get one.
What I want is proper PPE available so that we can care for sick patients without playing Russian roulette!
I want people to stop stealing masks/hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes from public areas so that staff members and PATIENTS who need to be there for other appointments are less at risk.
Lastly I want staff, patients and relatives to treat each other with respect during this time.

I think many staff in the NHS would rather just feel valued and treated civilly and not be abused. Front-line and behind the scenes. After all, every NHS worker is an important spoke in cog of communication and service but are now vectors and victims in this pandemic. Including receptionists, volunteers, cleaners, porters and behind the scenes, the admin staff to whom the consultant returns to from seeing patients.

There is so much abuse in the NHS front-line and behind the scenes. People leave good sense at the door. Patients and relatives use NHS workers as verbal punching bags. Those shocking scenes occurring in supermarkets happen somewhere in the NHS daily.

Admin staff are spending all day ringing patients to switch outpatient visits to telephone consultations whenever possible to reduce footfall in outpatient areas to protect the vulnerable who have to attend clinic for treatment. However, they coming under fire as patients and relatives clearly haven't grasped the situation and insist, 'well, they will be coming to clinic anyway because we like to see the doctor'. People are even phoning the NHS when they are running out of toilet role and hand wash. People's expectations are unreasonably high.

No-one expected a pandemic. It's unbelievable. It is truly, truly awful.

Everyone appreciates and is in awe of the work and pressure our NHS and other key staff are under at the moment

However, with such economic uncertainty at the moment now isn't the right time to ask for a pay rise

They want, and deserve, improved pay and conditions, to appropriately correlate with their role.

In a ideal world yes you should get a pay rise as in imo should all people working in highly needed jobs such as supermarket staff who are currently under severe stress however I just don't think the money is there I fear it may take years to recover from the effect this will have on not only our economy but the whole worlds. Sadly there just isn't the money and with so many people losing their jobs it's going to be absolute chaos.

NHS nurse here, I would rather keep working and keep patients safe than have a pay rise. It's why I chose the profession. No one does this for the money!
I can imagine years of austerity ahead so no we def won't be getting a pay rise!!
Maybe you should be thankful you have secure job prospects than having to worry how you will afford to live and eat? Every cloud and all that....

I also agree that now is not the time to ask for a pay rise.
In this current climate I am very very grateful that my job is safe, which in turn means my mortgage will still be paid.
I have multiple friends who are concerned for their businesses and homes at present.

I am saddened at some of the comments aimed towards health care professionals on this thread.
The vast majority of us are trying to get through this anyway we can whilst still trying to maintain a calm exterior for our patients.
