Social distancing, reckon we'll comply??

Just wondering really. It's all so weird and confusing and on this site I have seen people ask if they should attend parties this weekend. No. We need to stay away from others unless necessary. I believe that if we don't comply the government will order the closure of venues and we may even end up ordered indoors. Come on people, we can DO this. We have social media, FaceTime etc. Think of the vulnerable.

Section 2 of course.

Videos if chinesse woman actually coughing on elevator buttons, another man taking his mask off licking his fingers and smearing his saliva on the hand rails of a subway train, refusal of practicing social distancing, coughing/ sneezing in public with zero attempts to contain to name a few in this climate? No!!

Such behaviour In this pandemic? No No NO!!

Fines and custodial sentences are not enough of a deterrent- we saw that after 9-11 and 7-7 London bombings.

Therefore they must have a mental health problem and can get the treatment they obviously need.

Rosehip10 · 17/03/2020 16:08

Under emergency powers the government would deal with issues like rioting robustly.

bingbangbing · 17/03/2020 16:15

No, that's not how section two works. It also only lasts for 72hr.

No, that's not how section two works. It also only lasts for 72hr.

But why have you only stated one part of the section 2 process??? Another UK snowflakeBiscuit please feel free to correct my below fact.

The emergency sections last up to72 hoursduring which time arrangements must be made to assess if a section 2 is necessary. The assessment section (section 2) lasts up to28 days

I think a lot of people are trying to do their best, but the guidelines have been a little unclear for those not in the vulnerable category.

Everyone I know would no longer consider going to a bar or restaurant or public place like cinema etc, but still intends to see (non-vulnerable) close family, either outside for walks or at each other's homes. Taking precautions with cleaning, hand washing etc, but that is 'essential' social contact for many.

bingbangbing · 17/03/2020 16:57

Anybody who uses 'snowflake' like that isn't worth talking to. It's a known twat-marker.

Needless to say, the mental act will not be used to enforce a curfew. Not even section 2. It's not designed to be used just for idiocy.

FollowingNow · 17/03/2020 16:59

Having lived in London during the riots a few years ago, I’m scared that if we do go into lockdown that there will always be the idiots that decide to rebel/riot/loot. That scares me.

Hasn't happened anywhere else so don't see why it would happen here.

Connie222 · 17/03/2020 17:01

I guess I just don’t have a lot of faith in some of the British public.

They won't comply. Yesterday had a man in our shop buying cough medicine while continually coughing. Likely has CV. But came in anyway and spread it. Selfish wanker.

I have a permanent cough, chemo and radiotherapy damage. I do not have CV (tested neg). Definitely not a selfish wanker.

If the government wants people not to go to gyms for example then it needs to tell/force those gyms to close their doors until further notice.
Currently they are not doing that which means people believe that going to gyms is OK.
Big gatherings have not been banned. Which begs the question of why small gatherings are not OK.
There are too many unanswered questions and not enough clarity over what the government is asking us to do.

Autumn2019 · 17/03/2020 17:31

No, sadly i don't think most will . Just giving out vague advice with no sanctions will not work imo. Even at the moment employers are not listening to government advice to wfh, so i doubt such people care much about spreading the virus. My DH's employers(public services type role) are not enouraging staff to wfh and the ceo is sending out weird emails to all the staff which to me sounds like they are trying to discourage wfh. DH can do his job from home and has a long conmute so it is probably a matter of time he will get the virus. If he does get the virus i only hope he gets it in on his way into work and not just on his way home. I am usually not a spiteful person but i am really annoyed that employers are not listening to government advice and are putting a lot of people at risk.

PepePig · 17/03/2020 19:28

@LackBladder

Good thing I wasn't talking about you, then, wasn't it?

I would have thought someone as intelligent as yourself would have been avoiding social settings, anyway, considering you're in one of the high-risk groups. Therefore, wouldn't be coughing all over the shop.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 19:31

It’s bizarre how badly this new strict part is going. Why didn’t they see it? And no down side to being stronger about it.

Hairwizard · 17/03/2020 20:36

My dp being a fucking twat with all this. We had twins booked for their christening on sat 4th april. They wont be going near it. Over my dead body. We are already social distancing from everyone. His folks are now holed up indoors as they are at risk. Mine have been told to stay home too. One set of godparents if theyve any sense wont travel up.
Hes said that priest saying it will go ahead as long as less than 100 people (other christenings on same service!!!) And no holy water/touching. Wtaf??
Hes all for it and from sil texted me esrlier i think they are pushing for it too. They are shitting themselves should something happen to them ...
I texted her back saying im not happy under the circs and it wont happen. Shes now suggest asking priest to come to the house. Pushy much..
Do people not realise what is meant by social distancing??

Glenthebattleostrich · 17/03/2020 20:45

No most people won't.

This week I sent a child home with a temperature, advised 2 weeks isolation and they are refusing. Still sending the eldest to school

An aquantance on Facebook saying they are annoyed their night out is cancelled. Then that they have a cough and feel rough bit still going to work, shopping with a friend etc.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 17/03/2020 20:50

It's not the selfish idiots who will die - it's the vulnerable people they infect. I'm actually having to go on a journey that some would class as non essential next week to see my fiancé 200 miles away as his mental health is suffering badly because of this and the fact he's got no work. I'll be driving straight to his place. Meeting him at his place. Driving straight back to mine. Some might think that's non essential, but it really isn't.

Aderyn19 · 17/03/2020 21:09

I have quarantined my parents, who until very recently thought it was still okay to go to their classes and activities. But I had to food shop for them and us on Saturday. The shops were full of people coughing and spluttering - so selfish.
So no, I don't think people will stay home until they are forced to.
Went for a drive today - didn't get out of the car but the shops looked busy, carparks full, plenty of traffic on the roads.
My DC won't be going back to school or uni now. DH is WFH. I will have to go to the supermarket at some point since I need to shop for elderly parents too, but we will not be doing anything else. No nipping to a cafe or mooching around clothes shops. But it's so hard to stop your kids from socialising, when all their friends are just carrying on as if everything is normal.

pigsDOfly · 19/03/2020 09:33

Will we all comply with social distancing?

Well not if the news reporter I was watching on tv last night is anything to go by.

Can't remember what it was on, ITV I think, or whether it was national or local news, but it was a female reporter talking to a doctor in a health centre.

They had something like five doctors at home self isolating and the doctor she was interviewing said that they would have difficulty staying open if any more doctors had to stay away.

Firstly, she stood much closer to him than the advised 2 metres, then when they passed a hand sanitiser, she squeezed some gel onto one of her hands and sort of rubbed the fingers of that hand onto the palm. She had her phone in her other hand so just dabbed a bit of the gel onto the back of the hand with the phone completely ignoring the rest of her hand.

When she finished the interview she thanked him and touched his hand.

She then went over to the nurses station and spoke to a member of staff whilst repeatedly touching the desk and then touching her face.

Surely, reporters going out to interview people should be aware of the advice we've all been given regarding social distancing? She seemed completely unaware.

Moomin8 · 19/03/2020 10:42

Just read on fb a woman taking her 3 boys out and about (all under 6) even though they had high fevers and now 111 told her they probably have coronavirus. People just don't get it

Social distancing, reckon we'll comply??
Aderyn19 · 19/03/2020 20:51

Also woman coughing all over the place in Morrisons today. Supermarkets are one place we really can't avoid totally. Totally fucking selfish.

PepePig · 20/03/2020 20:12

@Aderyn19

Just wait, someone will be along to you how they had x wrong with them and not CV.

It doesn't bloody matter! If you're ill at all, stay home. Last thing anyone needs is to amazingly overcome CV, go out and get another bloody bug, either. Or, you know, the most likely... they have CV and just gave it to hundreds of people.

People are bloody daft and infuriating.

Aderyn19 · 21/03/2020 07:59

I'm relieved to hear the govt has finally shut the pubs. I took DD out for some fresh air once all the shops had shut and the pub on my street was as busy as ever. My sister says that the restaurant at her work was also busy. Not only are they putting themselves at risk but every other person they have contact with in unavoidable situations, like supermarkets, the chemist and people who have to work with them.
