Lockdown conditions in France

CroissantsAtDawn · 17/03/2020 06:01

Ive seen lots of threads with people worrying about lockdown.and how they would cope/ it would be enforced.

Last night, following the President's announcement I received a text message from the government confirming the lockdown for 15 days and linking to a site with details.

From 12 today we are only allowed out to go to work if work from home isnt possible, buy groceries, see a doctor, help elderly/vulnerable family in need (with reminder about barrier actions), to let a dog do its business or for individual physical activity close to home.

Each time you need a paper dated and signed explaining why you are out. Infringements are fined 38-135 euros. The paper can be downloaded and printed, shown on your phone or just hand written.

100 000 police and army personnel are being deployed to enforce the conditions.

No mention of how children can exercise. Just that parks etc are closed and there should be no family or friends gathering.

We are going to test going out early for run with 1 DC each and hope that is allowed in "individual activity". If its not I ll stand on the doorstep and watch them run up and down the road (2 highly active boys living in a flat....)

No I think a lot of them need checking! All the mums I know are tearing their hair out. There's just so much to do.

Plus mine turn into monsters if ever I spend more than 30 minutes on a phone call. They were both happily colouring in then the little one burst into tears cos the eldest was annoying him - by looking at him Hmm

Mine both need checking, though DS1, who is in 2de, has been good. He has classes on the phone and online, which structures the day (well, did until the holidays, now structure is markedly absent...) and he had quite a lot of work to send in, including in limited time during class hours.
They also have chores (hoovering/laundry/dishwasher unloading) on a rota, though that requires hardcore nagging.

I'm in Provence, Croissants

Ouf, one of the teaching unions has given préavis of a greve starting 11 mai to 30 mai, mainly focusing on health concerns of their members. No idea if it big or small; it’s the FNEC FP-FO.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/04/2020 21:17

Oh yay a strike, the national sport of France

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 23/04/2020 21:30

I’m really conflicted on the idea of the children going back to school, it’s the same grotty shared towel in our school too.

Dd1 is in CE1 and the homeschooling is intense, she is the youngest in her school year, has ‘soutien’ and an orthophoniste. She really struggles to focus and the work is taking us all day to complete.
If I could choose I’d not send her in for the rest of the this year and she’d restart the same school year again in September.
I doubt that will be possible though and she could really benefit from being back with her teacher.. it’s a hard one.

Here in Switzerland, our crèche will re-open on the 11th of May, but apparently they are supposed to be following distancing measures. Quite how that’s going to be possible with 26 0-4 year-olds, I have no idea Confused

I reckon there’ll be a massive queue at the French post office on the 11th too, as everyone here will have Amazon deliveries piling up over the border. Why there is no Amazon.ch, I have no idea. The Swiss are the richest people on the planet! Bezos is missing a trick here...

My friend was in quarantine in HK because he tested positive for covid. He needed to test negative 2 days in a row before he could leave. He was there 27 days which appears to be fairly average.

I was diagnosed with it near the beginning of lockdown- had 4 days feeling pretty rough then it was mainly absolute tiredness and a headache. I too would feel better, get up to do something simple then be knocked off my feet again. The tiredness lasted nearly 3 weeks. The headache lasted 4.

I think both my DSes had a very minor version - a couple of symptoms each plus extreme tiredness. DH had all of 48 hours of feeling under the weather...

I'm not worried about them going back to school although this is undoubtedly colouring my judgement.

I'll equipe them with handgel and I'm sure the school will be hot on that.

Interesting about the strike. We're at a private school so aren't ever affected by strikes. It would be a shame though if the strike meant no work set for home.

Interesting long read in the Guardian today about home schooling in lockdown in Italy.
www.theguardian.com/education/2020/apr/24/italy-home-schooling-coronavirus-lockdown-what-weve-learned
(The second half of my career in education was spent developing and inspecting ICT in schools. Fascinating to see what has been happening over the last few weeks.)

Really interesting article thanks

FNEC is not a big union AFAIK

BurneyFanny · 24/04/2020 12:58

I've just had an email from a student apologising for not getting her work done. She hasn't left her room at the cité U for a month, all her family is in Réunion, and she only has a limited data package on her phone, the residence wifi is too poor to work on. She's getting food deliveries from the Secours Populaire. She's used the time to write a novel. I can barely imagine how tough that must be.

Watchagotcha · 25/04/2020 05:28

Bit of a change of subject, but has anyone heard anything about sports clubs and associations ? This is the time of year where we usually start thinking about them (and putting the fees aside). DS 1 does gym and parkour, both of which are closed and I cannot see them being allowed to open any time soon given the fact they involve equipment (which would need to be cleaned all the time) and big groups of sweaty people in close proximity to each other! DS has already gained weight during lockdown, I’m really hoping he can up his physical exercise soon.

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/04/2020 06:39

We havent but we're assuming judo won't be open until September and hope to get some money back.

We would love for tennis to open as its outside and there's only 5 or 6 of them in the class but as its attached to the same club for judo I suspect they'll just cancel all kids classes.

Maybe sports clubs will be mentionned in the annonce next week with the deconfinement plan? Although I suspect they'll fall in with restaurants etc. Nice to have but difficult for gestes barrieres

I'm a member of a running/athletics club along with DS but as all races and other events have been cancelled until end July at the moment I'm assuming that there will be no formal training sessions either before September. Am hoping to be able to at least run with my friends from the club on an informal basis soon instead of just the dog!
It will probably be easier for outdoor based sports to open as social distancing is more possible, at least for non contact sports.
Not sure if our local indoor pool will be able to re-open this year. Before the lockdown it was open because the capacity was less than the 100 gathering rule.
I can't wait to get my bike out again.

MadameF · 25/04/2020 06:56

I hadn't thought of asking for money back and won't. I think most clubs and assos will have their local funding cut from communes and towns following the crisis and to refund members on top of that will probably cripple them.

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/04/2020 07:12

I miss the swimming pool so much! But.mine regularly has over 180 people in it (50m pool with sliding roof - very popular even at 9am at the weekend) so won't be open yet. So much for my 120km target this year

DC's gymnastics club sent an email that they will be closed until end of season.

I hope my own gym opens at some point..

Very interesting Twitter thread from John Lichfield on Covid and Insee statistics.

Thanks for that link @miss.

BurneyFanny · 25/04/2020 16:49

interesting, thanks.

KatharinaRosalie · 25/04/2020 20:19

Numbers are going down nicely, even here in Haut Rhin.

Roseau18 · 25/04/2020 22:28

I've just read this in my local paper about the collèges and lycées pupils. Not only will the pupils and the teachers be expected to wear masks all day but:
"Les établissements devraient faire en sorte que les élèves d’une classe ne croisent pas les élèves d’une autre classe ou que les élèves d’un même niveau ne croisent pas les élèves d’un autre niveau. Et "si c’est possible", qu’ils déjeunent tous en classe, à leur table."
I wonder when the "experts" were last in a school!

Appuskidu · 25/04/2020 23:23

@roseau18 would you kindly translate?!

pfrench · 26/04/2020 00:02

Classes and year groups should stick to themselves, so they only mix with a smaller number of children. Lunch in classrooms.
