Lockdown conditions in France

CroissantsAtDawn · 17/03/2020 06:01

Ive seen lots of threads with people worrying about lockdown.and how they would cope/ it would be enforced.

Last night, following the President's announcement I received a text message from the government confirming the lockdown for 15 days and linking to a site with details.

From 12 today we are only allowed out to go to work if work from home isnt possible, buy groceries, see a doctor, help elderly/vulnerable family in need (with reminder about barrier actions), to let a dog do its business or for individual physical activity close to home.

Each time you need a paper dated and signed explaining why you are out. Infringements are fined 38-135 euros. The paper can be downloaded and printed, shown on your phone or just hand written.

100 000 police and army personnel are being deployed to enforce the conditions.

No mention of how children can exercise. Just that parks etc are closed and there should be no family or friends gathering.

We are going to test going out early for run with 1 DC each and hope that is allowed in "individual activity". If its not I ll stand on the doorstep and watch them run up and down the road (2 highly active boys living in a flat....)

Croissants is that happening direct to wage earner right now or is the govt planning on reimbursing the company?

If latter is it easy to get the form, and get the money now?

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/03/2020 05:54

I really dont know about the money. I think its the employer who pays and is reimbursed but I haven't looked into it as I'm not impacted (yet - my employer might put us on chomage technique later)

Eek about 500m!

OP posts:
Seventyone72seventy3 · 20/03/2020 08:36

We are at less than 500m here - basically no physical activity off your property.

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/03/2020 08:44

Hardly anyone in the streets today and almost no cars. Very strange atmosphere.

Last night my avenue joined in the clapping at 8pm.

People are keeping their spirits up by sharing funny videos. My manager created one for our team thats just for making us laugh. And some mums from school have created one to share our frustrations of trying to work and get the DC to work!

There's a real feeling of solidarity.

I'm employed in a creche here in Brittany we tried to stay open and offer childcare for key workers but we only had 5 children yesterday and are taking it on a day to day basis.

We've all been placed on chommage partiel (unemployment benefit). My boss emailed yesterday at the end of the month she will calculate all the hours we've worked this month plus holiday pay and then we receive unemployment to make up our pay. My company has estimated that we will be shut down for 3 months and they will make my salary up to 90%. So I know I'm safe for 3 months at least.

I appreciate I'm very lucky and knowing that I can still pay my bills during this time is extremely reassuring.

DH went out to Le Clerc this morning to get some groceries. He said that he went in as you would normally do, did the shopping and came out to see a queue of people waiting to be let in by a security guard. They must have received institutions from HQ while he was inside. No shortages and no rationing which is good news.

Humphriescushion · 20/03/2020 10:22

Went out for first time. Supermarket had about 15 people, no shortages, someone on door to limit no.s but was not necessary. Not much traffic on roads. Walked my dog, did not meet anyone - but that is the norm anywayl i left my piece of paper in the car whilst walking and probably should have kept it with me! Also left my shopping list in the house so forgot loads. Dog had a nice walk so she is happy. Waving a very clean hand at everyone on lockdown!

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/03/2020 10:44

DH has surfaced from back to back conference calls (9am - 8pm yesterday!) and gone to local temporary market and picard. Hopefully there won't be any shortages. He has a tendancy to not get substitutes if something on the list isn't available Hmm

Local newspaper this morning says they have closed off the path where I went for my walk yesterday as too many people were using it, even though when I went at lunchtime yesterday I only saw one other person.

AuldAlliance · 20/03/2020 11:03

I'm in the SE.
We are clapping on balconies at 8pm and it's doing me good to see friends' faces as I'm alone with 2 DC.

Not cycling is a huge blow.
Pilates and short walks it will have to be.

Friends' son brought me some veg yesterday when he went shopping. I've left it on the terrace in the shade for 48hrs before eating.
Am leaving post in a box in the porch for 48hrs. 4 days if in plastic cover.

Bought bread this morning: no gloves worn by staff in shop...I had a pair on.

Am WFH and it's taking hours.

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 11:05

Auld I hadn’t considered that. Leaving veg untouched!

AuldAlliance · 20/03/2020 12:34

Marsha, I don't know if it's necessary, but a few friends are doing the same. DS1 has a bad chest infection and I'm alone with 2 DC and no family in the country, so I'm not taking any risks...
It's getting warm here now, though, so will have to use the cellar soon for storing stuff.

Can I catch the coronavirus by eating food handled or prepared by others?

We are still learning about transmission of the new coronavirus. It's not clear if it can be spread by an infected person through food they have handled or prepared, but if so it would more likely be the exception than the rule.

That said, the new coronavirus is a respiratory virus known to spread by upper respiratory secretions, including airborne droplets after coughing or sneezing. The virus that causes COVID-19 has also been detected in the stool of certain people. So we currently cannot rule out the possibility of the infection being transmitted through food by an infected person who has not thoroughly washed their hands. In the case of hot food, the virus would likely be killed by cooking. This may not be the case with uncooked foods like salads or sandwiches.

Wallywobbles · 20/03/2020 13:38

Rural Normandie:
Animal food suppliers all good. Non food bit cordoned off.

No toilet paper or flour still in the supermarket.
Lots of veg special offers. Including artichokes and avocados which are normally a fortune.
More tills open than I've ever seen. One per customer.
Very few people in. Cashier said people are being arses though.

Queued into bead shops. Only one in the shop at a time.

Frenchfancy · 20/03/2020 17:57

Just back from the supermarket. Very quiet. I also went to the local veg shop. Fully stocked no problem. The only thing missing at the supermarket was pasta (they had some but not the brand we normally get and we have plenty so I didn't bother) meat counter still open (roast duck for Sunday). They've put plexiglass screens up on all the checkouts. It was all a bit weird but not unpleasant. Everyone seemed cheerful, in a stoic sort of way.

missclimpson · 20/03/2020 19:26

Waves to Wallywobbles from rural Calvados. We haven't been shopping but online seems very short of dairy? All I can see are cows....

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/03/2020 20:28

Flour is impossible to get hold of.

The rest seems ok though picard was generally low on stocks.

I saw on the news that they're clamping down on exercise. No bikes. Running within 500m of homes in cities and 1-2km in rural settings.

We went out early this morning then again at 7pm just so DH could chase the boys outside (very wide pavement in front of our flat). We re all struggling at the moment. And its only been 1 week!

I have just been told by someone living in Paris that tonight's National Address has reversed lockdown measures but Le Monde doesn't seem to be carrying that story.

Anyone with any info?

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/03/2020 20:47

What do you mean by reversed?
They've said they are applying the rules to the letter. So telling us how far we can go from home (500m in cities, 2km max rurally) for exercise.

We've also previously been told to go to the nearest shop not to a larger one further away.

OP posts:
DrawMeARainbow · 20/03/2020 20:49

Are there restrictions on how many times you can go out per day or per week?

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/03/2020 20:55

No. Ive been out 2-3 times every day and have never been stopped by the police. In fact Ive only seen the police once and they were stopping cars not people out running.

OP posts:
CroissantsAtDawn · 20/03/2020 20:57

It helps that im in a very residential area and theres never been many people walking or running where I was. The main tourist hit spots are heavily policed

@missclimpson pays d'auge here.

Wallywobbles · 20/03/2020 22:00

Try the BFMTV app or website for all the news. I can't see anything about it being reversed. There are calls for it to be tightened though and prolonged.

I think the number of times might be linked to where you live. Our local prefecture has just passed an "arrêté" to make all "open spaces" (forests, lakes etc.) out of bounds and you can only go out once a day from tomorrow.
