Lockdown conditions in France

CroissantsAtDawn · 17/03/2020 06:01

Ive seen lots of threads with people worrying about lockdown.and how they would cope/ it would be enforced.

Last night, following the President's announcement I received a text message from the government confirming the lockdown for 15 days and linking to a site with details.

From 12 today we are only allowed out to go to work if work from home isnt possible, buy groceries, see a doctor, help elderly/vulnerable family in need (with reminder about barrier actions), to let a dog do its business or for individual physical activity close to home.

Each time you need a paper dated and signed explaining why you are out. Infringements are fined 38-135 euros. The paper can be downloaded and printed, shown on your phone or just hand written.

100 000 police and army personnel are being deployed to enforce the conditions.

No mention of how children can exercise. Just that parks etc are closed and there should be no family or friends gathering.

We are going to test going out early for run with 1 DC each and hope that is allowed in "individual activity". If its not I ll stand on the doorstep and watch them run up and down the road (2 highly active boys living in a flat....)

MadameF oh no, I'm just a Sunday runner, doing a 10K or max a half here or there (Mostly Alsace or Switzerland).

Interesting thing, went for a run this evening and thought that something was a bit different. Then figured out the air was so clear I could see all kinds of villages up the hills that I normally do not see. And I live in the countryside - bigger cities must have much improved air quality?
It's almost like Mother Nature sent us all to our rooms to think about what we've done.

MadameF · 28/03/2020 20:28

Katharina the sky has never looked so blue, and whenever I go out running I am struck how nature continues successfully without the human race. Deer and red squirrels are still crossing the footpaths just in front of me, the primroses, violets and stitchwort are out in force, no human required.
I really hope we are not forced to stay at home 100% even if I have a big garden to run around.
I think the way French people eat, main meal at midday, soupe in the evening is very healthy. We don't, even though DH is French, no time to eat a meal (or prepare) at midday, so I make homemade soup which we eat with bread (not homemade, my one attempt resulted is something that would kill a duck as per About a Boy if you've ever seen the film). We eat in the evening but never before 20H.
I can't understand how British people eat so early...

KatharinaRosalie · 29/03/2020 19:28

Just a testing issue or are the new cases going down or at least stabilising?

StrangeLookingParasite · 29/03/2020 23:25

Lovely to see so many other françaises on here! Late check in from another Parisienne.
It's so weirdly quiet all the time (I live in very central Paris).
No really big shortages of anything, though our Picard gets very empty sometimes (Mr Picard is my best friend).
I'm trying to keep myself occupied doing all the things I'd put off, like listing the 8738793682456 things I have to sell on ebay. Still getting a bit stir crazy already.
Nice to know about May 4, though, at least there's a (probably) known duration so I can pace myself.

MadameF · 30/03/2020 06:56

Hi Strange yes, in central Paris it must seem very quiet for you! How are you coping, do you manage to get out every day? Are there a lot of controles? Here in the country I haven't been stopped once, or even seen a gendarme.

Katharina I like this graph, it may be too early to say if new cases are stabalising but they certainly aren't doubling

StrangeLookingParasite · 30/03/2020 08:07

One of us goes out most days. I might go today, I haven't been out for a couple. I've been very assiduous in carrying my laisse-passer, but haven't been controled once!
Those graphs look reasonably positive.

poppadopolis · 30/03/2020 09:28

I thought the figures looked encouraging too. However just listening to R4 Today programme and they are saying that it is only deaths in hospital that are counted, deaths in nursing homes aren't included in the total figures. Bizarre.

KatharinaRosalie · 30/03/2020 09:45

I don't expect the deaths to be affected that much yet, as most people dying would have been infected before lockdown. But newly infected cases are going down in France, Italy and Spain. I read in one newspaper they are counting and adding the other deaths, so those numbers in France will go up shortly. I guess all the nursing home deaths have simply not been tested yet, so they don't know for sure what the cause was?

I also had many plans - redecorate and Marie Kondo everything, and such. Turns out working full time while homeschooling and entertaining children is actually not the same as holiday, who would have thought.. Grin
And I'm lucky as I have the most reasonable employer ever. Our manager told the entire team this morning to be mindful that while we are working from home, it is still home, so no calls should be scheduled out of hours, you have to be understanding that people have other responsibilities and it's important that we go out, get fresh air, take breaks etc.

MadameF · 30/03/2020 10:17

Poppa no the stats have never included deaths in care homes or deaths at home.
I think it's the same in Italy, not sure about other countries

Makiwa · 30/03/2020 10:29

so no calls should be scheduled out of hours, you have to be understanding that people have other responsibilities and it's important that we go out, get fresh air, take breaks etc. This is sound advice. DH and I agreed from the start that we'd get up, get dressed and ready and keep to normal times. So homeschooling has a strict routine with break time taken at the usual time, lunch hours stuck to etc. We go out for a walk/run and play with DD2 during 'free' time which is working well for us.

AuldAlliance · 30/03/2020 10:45

They are going to begin including care home deaths in the stats soon, which will lead to a big spike in figures.
A friend here has been ill, GP diagnosed CV via téléconsultation and said someone would come and test her at home the next day. That was SAMU info. Then she was told the hospital said that wasn't correct procedure and she could only be tested if she went in. She isn't keen to go to hospital just now, for obvious reasons, so is at home, untested, hoping her symptoms, esp. breathlessness, don't worsen.

Ça cafouille...
Not sure the data will be v reliable if so few tests are done and it won't be comparable between countries as all are doing different things.

KatharinaRosalie · 30/03/2020 11:14

I also have a friend and he was told directly that yes he probably has it, but he's not in the risk group, so he will not be tested. He's luckily on the mend. That seems to be the approach in most countries now, only test the ones who actually end up hospitalised or are in high risk groups.

Did you see what they discovered in Iceland, where they also tested healthy people? Half the people carrying the virus showed no symptoms. So it's quite possible we all have it, but are not sick, just spreading..

Watchagotcha · 30/03/2020 15:53

Just a wee heads-up that M. Blanquer (education minister) is expected to make an announcement on this year's Bac... should be by the end of this week. DH and I both work in a college / lycee so we are waiting with bated breath to hear about this.

missclimpson · 30/03/2020 16:39

As if lock down wasn't bad enough we have now got a lengthy power cut. Wrong sort of tree on the line or possibly a tractor error. 😱

NonUrinatInVentum · 30/03/2020 17:05

I really hope they don't go ahead with the bac as normal. I've got a DD in Terminale and she's pulling her hair out.

StrangeLookingParasite · 30/03/2020 18:11

I'm reasonably sure we've all already had it, in janvier. awful cough, horrible shortness of breath (I took ventolin To yoga class), intermittente fever and it took more than four weeks to get better.

Frenchfancy · 30/03/2020 19:24

We are waiting for news of the concours. Dd has spent 2 very hard years at prepa it will be gutting if the concours (veto) doesn't go ahead.

Roseau18 · 30/03/2020 20:56

I'm involved in different concours (although not veto) - current thinking is that they will be held end of May/beginning of June, or later if that is not possible. There doesn't seem to be any talk of replacing them by an "épreuve sur dossier."

Frenchfancy · 31/03/2020 06:46

@Roseau18 that's good news

CroissantsAtDawn · 01/04/2020 10:44

Paris is so quiet at the moment.

Absolutely no way to get a home food delivery atm nor click and collect. I went to the local small carrefour just now and it was very reassuring. Only a handful of customers and most shelves have stuff on them. With a glaring exception of frozen food - only a couple of squashed boxes left. That and bread (pain de mie). Managed to get a loaf but not the brand we normally eat. Hopefully the DSes will eat it. 1 is quite fussy (although getting a LOT better since eating all his meals at home with us. He's thrilled not to be eating at the canteen!)

I managed to get milk, flour and eggs and even tinned tomatoes which we've struggled to get for weeks.

Seeing full shelves also meant I didn't try to get something "just in case". DH wanted tinned tuna but I didnt know which one to get - the choice was huge! So I got one and he can go back and browse next week.

Their easter egg selection was rubbish though. Practically non existent

Well despite being in a small village in a department that has very few cases Dd1 and I have managed to get covid. Went to the dr yesterday(at his request I phoned first but I have some chest pain so he wanted to see me) no test but hes pretty sure. Both been signed off and he is going to phone regularly to check up on us.

I'm ok for now, no temp - lower than normal, headache, chest ache, bit breathless, slight cough. I would probably not have called the dr under normal circumstances. I don't really do ill. Its the first day off I've had in years.

missclimpson · 01/04/2020 13:16

Take care of yourself Frenchfancy. 💐

KatharinaRosalie · 01/04/2020 13:36

oh sorry to hear french, hope it passes quickly. I know several people who have had it and they have all recovered without any issues.

CroissantsAtDawn · 01/04/2020 15:09

Sorry French. I too know several people who have had it mildly. The most important thing is to rest and drink a LOT of water (Hong Kong Dr told my friend that). Also, when you start feeling better take it easy! Otherwise you can relapse

Roseau18 · 01/04/2020 20:47

Sorry to hear your daughter and you have both caught it French. I hope it's a mild version for both of you.
