Yeah I know not essential but are we really supposed to not get a haircut for 12 weeks?

FredaFox · 16/03/2020 20:11

🙄 really? Can you not just wait

EmeraldsAtDawn · 16/03/2020 20:11

Yes. That is what is expected.

C3line · 16/03/2020 20:12

I can but the men in the family are going to look a bit ridiculous.

I'm sure I saw hairdresser on the essential list in Germany.

I was a bit surprised.

hidinginthenightgarden · 16/03/2020 20:12

I think they will manage!

FireUnderpants · 16/03/2020 20:13

I have youtube tutorials and a set of dog clippers.

kabalarian · 16/03/2020 20:14

Close contact high risk.
Not worth it is it?

JasonBrun · 16/03/2020 20:15

Really? Really really?

An unprecedented pandemic has come and this is what you are worried about?

C3line · 16/03/2020 20:17

Oh don’t be so dramatic. Clarifying not worrying.

DS is going to get really wiggy unless I can master a trim from YouTube.

Aworldofmyown · 16/03/2020 20:59

Although, in a small salon? I'm concerned about hairdressers tbh. They're all self employed 😔

Yesterdayforgotten · 19/03/2020 12:33

My sister is going for a haircut on Saturday. It is a smaller quiet salon and she is low risk and said she will wash hands and be careful.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/03/2020 12:47

Governments says avoid all non essential contact so save lives - they are being serious. But as long as she is careful it will be okay. 🤬 Hope you told her she is wrong.

Toothsil · 19/03/2020 13:00

I have a hair appointment on Saturday but I'm going to phone and cancel. I feel really bad about it, I want to support the business but I can't risk it. I was taking MIL with me, she's 78 and definitely shouldn't be going. I'm cancelling both of us.

cologne4711 · 19/03/2020 13:03

Fortunately I went about three weeks ago so can probably wait for a while.

Troels · 19/03/2020 13:15

I do Dh's myself with clippers. I haven't had a hairdesser cut mine in a couple of years, but curls are forgiving and you can't tell. Dd is growing hers out so doesn't need to go either.
I think I'd class the hairdressers as non essential, no one dies from lack of a haircut.

Everytimeiseeher · 19/03/2020 13:19

I’m a self employed hairdresser I work from a small salon in my home. My income has already been affected by people cancelling. Some are carrying on and still coming and booking ahead but I’m dreading the next couple of months.

Pteuropa · 19/03/2020 13:21

People scoffing at this post-these are the things that people are very confused about and it needs clarifying.

TW2013 · 19/03/2020 13:23

I reckon we should seize the opportunity of isolation for however long to shave all dc heads and eliminate nits forever!! Will add to the apocalyptic feeling too (Lighthearted)

augustusglupe · 19/03/2020 13:31

I had my hair done yesterday. It is a high end salon and I had had the usual email regarding hand washing, mainly that I would be asked to wash my hands on entering and leaving the salon and extra hygiene measures they had in place.
None of this happened!! I had to take it upon myself to wash my hands, which I did. Magazines were passed around. Robes being re worn etc.
I actually feel really shocked by it today and more worryingly the SaIon was packed!! It was like December in there.
I won’t be going back to the hairdressers until this is over. Whether that’s my usual 8 weeks or that turns into 6 months, I don’t care.
DH and me are staying in now, except for essential shopping and country walks. We’ve cancelled family get togethers as of now.

hopeishere · 19/03/2020 13:33

Need to bring back the mumsnet haircut!!

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 19/03/2020 13:36

My hairdresser is a single mother of 4 who works in her home salon. I dread to think what she's going to do Sad

Yesterdayforgotten · 19/03/2020 14:51

WeAllHaveWings I did but she has had a baby so hasnt had it cut in 6 months and has been suffering with bad mental health. It's a bit of a catch 22.

SummersMahoosiveClipOnFringe · 19/03/2020 14:55

These comments on here about washing hands and being careful as if that is enough...

Is the hair dresser Inspector Fucking Gadget with extendable arms such they can keep the minimal distance?

No? Thought not. Hmm

Yesterdayforgotten · 19/03/2020 15:00

I explained to me sister the serious risks but she declared she is already in isolation in normal life as never goes out and wont be going out anywhere after the haircut or seeing anyone who will be in contact with any high risk people. Hmmm
