Would you go to hairdressers? Or DH to barbers?

We have a small barbershop, family business, just hubby and 5 barbers. Hubby wants to try and stay open, some of the team want to isolate. None of us/the team are sick yet. But you can’t maintain a social distance when you’re providing a personal service like hair cutting.

Will you keep going to hairdressers or barbers now we are all told to keep a social distance and avoid pubs etc?

We are terrified now what this means for our business and income. We will probably be ruined 😢

I'd encourage lots of hand washing and have boxes of tissues to hand and bins - but in essence I'd probably stay open if I had no underlying heath issues.

I’d keep appointment numbers really low so you can effectively clean between clients. And so there aren’t lots of people in the room at once.

I would say the client is more at risk: the hairdresser mostly stands behind the client - and therefore breathes all over them. The client mostly breathes towards the mirror.

I did, last weekend. To my friends small salon on the side of her house which only does 2 people at a time. But she sent out messages ahead of the appointment stating the hygiene measures she was taking (and I saw her doing them while there!).

I'd remain open and see what the customers do. I'd also make a big show of cleaning everything in front of people. Spraying and wiping chairs etc every time they're sat on, card machine every time it's used, hand washing etc. That's what my work is doing although we aren't hairdressers. I've never spent so much time cleaning! We're still getting customers in. I'll be interested so see if there's less of them tomorrow.

Germany has just announced a shutdown for many shops and services.

Essential services such as supermarkets, pharmacies etc will remain open. To my amazement, hairdressers/barbers are included on this list.
