Just 10 days? How odd

I didn’t even know they had stores
Online only I thought

Mominatrix · 17/03/2020 05:42

How misleading, like the vast majority of threads on the virus and sequelae.

Trooperslaneagain · 17/03/2020 06:01

Urban outfitters
North face
Vans - all shut
Many restaurants and cafés (all this from just one walk up our main shopping street yesterday)
My counsellor's office
DH working from home
Beavers, football, hockey, dancing and swimming cancelled for DD
I have regular hospital appointments which are likely to be cancelled from tonight

Butterwhy · 17/03/2020 06:14

UO staff are being paid, but only for contracted hours (many do overtime and contracted hours are low)- but it's good Hopefully the others are too.

LightAsTheBreeze · 17/03/2020 06:16

There are only 2 shops aren’t there, people aren’t going to be buying new clothes to sit in their front room in anyway so I imagine more clothes shops will shut

Straycatstrut · 17/03/2020 06:47

It seems that most gyms are still open. My 7yo DS still had his swimming lesson in one last night and all the other kids were there too - plus plenty of adults doing lane swimming, using the steam room/sauna. I wish they'd just close it and freeze all our passes.

My dad with health issues in his 60's works in a busy city centre museum and that's still open. I'm not happy about him working at all.

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 17/03/2020 06:59

Climbing walls are still open too

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/03/2020 07:03

😂😂. This says it all about Mumsnet. We have a world crisis, people are sick and dying but Boden has closed. How on earth will we survive? If Seasalt and Joules follow suit it will mean the end of civilisation as we know it.

Overreactiondotcomornotdotcom · 17/03/2020 07:07

I was just shocked that they had closed stores. And I do hope staff are not out of pocket. Unless there is total lock down we can not stop the spread but if a smallish store with not very many people in at any given time is closed but as others have stated swimming lessons, gyms and being able to access places that have larger number of people its seems to be a case of closing the wrong places.

AlexaAmbidextra I know! it's the most Mumsnet OP I've seen so far Grin

MaggieAndHopey · 17/03/2020 07:35

Shit just got real.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2020 07:41

I'd be 'shocked' at this point if any retailer of non-essential goods which has online service wasn't shutting its shops.

Hopefully all decent employers will support staff as far as they're able.

Fedupofdoingit · 17/03/2020 07:44

Let’s be honest, many people are going to be out of pocket, not just Boden. Employers won’t be able to pay their staff if they close. The only employees who probably don’t have to worry are nhs, local council workers, civil service, teachers, police etc! Oh forgot, MP’s too. So in reality if you are a public sector employee you will be okay, but if you work in the private sector you’re f**d!

LuluJakey1 · 17/03/2020 07:49

Well it appears teachers and NHS staff are going to have the law changed so their working conditions can be dismantled. I would not want 40+ teenagers in one room to teach.

Rosehip10 · 17/03/2020 07:52

Every cloud....

Oldraver · 17/03/2020 07:53

It's likely I will be laid off so no wages for me which we could cope with.

Though OH told me there is a notice at work saying only SSP will be paid if you go home

Overreactiondotcomornotdotcom · 17/03/2020 07:58

Sorry if I offended anyone but pointing out it was boden I would have asked the same question had it been anywhere else just happens to be the first email I got regarding a store closure. Also this thread was more on the basics of staff being paid and not out of pocket we all still have Bill's that need paying.

SpringFan · 17/03/2020 07:59

National Trust closing all pay-to enter properties from Friday. Gardens, parks etc remain open and free I understand from the email.
(thats even more MN than Boden)

TonyChestnut · 17/03/2020 08:02

I was hoping to use the time of self isolating to do some decorating. But now I'm terrified that Farrow and Ball will close their stores.
Grin

whatashower · 17/03/2020 08:13

More shocked that a mumsnetter doesnt know that Boden is an online operation than the fact that they have sensibly closed their couple of showroom shops as a precaution because no-one is going to be visiting them anyway

whatashower · 17/03/2020 08:20

Plus, the couple of stores are temporarily closed for now, the staff wont be out of work just because of that, and Boden is really not a zero hours contract type of place. You just frlt like typing something didnt you. 🤣
Anyway, this post appearing in trending will give their current Sale a boost, so all good.

Etinox · 17/03/2020 08:21

I was about to post tongue in cheekly about various MN staple shops, but careless talk etc.
Thanks OP for the lolz

lborgia · 17/03/2020 08:31

@MaggieAndHopey - husband never laughs very much, very occasional amusement when I read out funny stuff from MN.

I was roaring with your comment, and DH Laughed Out Loud. For reals Grin
