I would say a good month of eating twice a day (pasta, rice dishes) - ie no thrills just sustenance

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 16/03/2020 16:13

@Bagelsandbrie , again, would you prefer to queue in a shop or play with your kids?
That's why (one of the many reasons why) I prep. So this shit is a minor inconvenience, not a catastrophe.

fluffedupferretonsteroids · 16/03/2020 16:13

A month on food but I wouldn't have enough formula for baby

usernotfound0000 · 16/03/2020 16:14

3-4 weeks, would be lots of tomato pasta though! 2 weeks of decent variety and then would be survival food!

hamstersarse · 16/03/2020 16:16

There are a lot of selfish twats on this thread.

GymMummyBunny · 16/03/2020 16:18

Family of 5 adults(3 adult DC) and 1 x 9 yr old - two weeks at a push. Even getting that much has taken a lot of effort as the shops near me are barren, and I’m normally a buy for the next day or two kind of person as we eat mainly fresh food, very little tinned or frozen foods so didn’t have a stock already.

AParallelUniverse · 16/03/2020 16:19

think it's really selfish people who have months worth of supplies stored away

Rather than moaning about the people who have put a little aside each week for the past year, consider why you didn't do that yourself. And, be grateful that they won't be competing with you to panic buy what's left on the shelves.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 16/03/2020 16:23

I got until Thursday/Friday for fresh stuff (following on from last 'big' shop), another 2 weeks roughly of 'normal' eating, using up fridge and freezer stuff (which includes lots of frozen veg because I've been keeping loads in since we couldn't get fresh a couple of years ago when the snow was bad round here and have just got in the habit of maintaining stock levels). I reckon we could do "enough calories but not nice diet" for a 4th week.

Thinking about it, I probably do need to stock up, given how long some people are talking about being stuck in, but I want to wait until next weekend so shops have had a chance to restock to normal levels and not be selfish. I'll add a bit more in each shop now until someone gets sick in our household, but not going crazy.

LolaSmiles · 16/03/2020 16:29

Not just this, but some of us aren't preppers but always have a small buffer in case of illness or unforeseen circumstances.

I've not had to do any panic buying but am slightly annoyed I can't do my normal food shop due to people going mad.

bellinisurge · 16/03/2020 16:30

@hamstersarse , I'm such a selfish twat I spent most of Sunday sorting out medical stuff for my in-laws in their 70s and offering them my preps. That I have built up slowly over months and months. Catch yourself on with that shite.

BadCatDirtyCat · 16/03/2020 16:33

Week 1 - fine
Week 2 - not enough veg for my liking
Week 3 - scraping the barrel
Week 4 - totally out of food

I honestly don't think it'll come to that though.. the corner shops still have loads and even if we're totally housebound lots of neighbours are offering to get food for anyone stuck etc.

JorisBonson · 16/03/2020 16:38

A week of decent eating, a week of tins.

Beau20 · 16/03/2020 16:41

I'm shocked at how many people have 3 weeks + worth of food!

We shop week to week - our fresh food will last us another couple days and frozen/cupboard food another few days. A week TOPS for us!

Beau20 · 16/03/2020 16:44

I hope about 2-3 months, been stocking up. Will get more as much as we can until we are on lockdown

@GobOnAStick wow. What are you expecting, a zombie Apocalypse??? Jesus christ.

Selfish much!!!!

bellinisurge · 16/03/2020 16:44

About a year ago, I bought two boxes of 100 disposable gloves. I gave a box to my 73 year old MIL yesterday and showed her how to use them properly. And she went to the supermarket wearing the gloves in order to get some extra bits this morning because she's getting out while she can. She would have been reluctant to go out without them. She's not the kind of person who is easily swayed or cowed or otherwise intimidated by anyone or anything.

Clareel · 16/03/2020 16:47

2 weeks. That’s with intermittent fasting so max 1-2 meals per day and keto so no hunger which helps.

Deadringer · 16/03/2020 16:48

4 adults, a teen and a tween, i would say decent meals 2 weeks, random cobbled together meals possibly 4/5 weeks.

flooredbored · 16/03/2020 16:53

We have 4 adults and 2 kids. I could probably go 2 months comfortably. 3 months if we restricted portions. I also rear chickens and I am stepping up my veg growing. I usually get a veg box from local organic farm. The dogs may have to go a bit feral after a month or so...

sanityisamyth · 16/03/2020 17:14

Until tomorrow?

BretonKitten · 16/03/2020 17:19

We live rurally so always have a good stock in the cupboards over winter. We both got bad flu a couple of years ago, so now at the beginning of winter I batch cook a month’s worth of ready meals and freeze them. So maybe 6-8 weeks on that.

DH bulk buys protein shakes off the internet so I think there’s another couple of month’s worth of those in the garage.

DH bulk buys p

ivfbabymomma1 · 16/03/2020 17:23

Maybe 10 days? If I really stretched it! Oh dear maybe I need to up my game lol

Wow. You did something for your elderly in-laws. Increds Flowers

The fact you think it is relevant to mention something so standard and everyday for most people hints that may be something that is unusual in your life. But congrats.

bellinisurge · 16/03/2020 17:28

You've obviously met my difficult in-laws.

lynsey91 · 16/03/2020 17:32

@hamstersarse I think you will find there are a lot of unprepared people on this thread NOT selfish twats.

How are people selfish or twats for being sensible and prepared? I don't understand why so many people only have a couple of days food in the house.

As I have said on other threads, anything could happen that meant you could not get to the shops and possibly that delivery drivers could not get to you. Why not always have some stock of tinned foods and things like rice, pasta etc just in case?

BentNeckLady · 16/03/2020 17:33

I would probably be ok without leaving the house for a month.

GobOnAStick · 16/03/2020 17:36

I have health conditions and would prob die if I caught it. DH has just gone back to Asda now to stock up more if he can after the news conference. I will be staying in now for 3 months.
