If we lockdown, is outside exercise allowed?

I’m interested to understand what’s allowed and not in places where lockdown has been implemented. Reading about Spain and it says people are to be allowed out ‘for emergencies, to buy food, or for work’. What’s the reality of how it’s policed, how would they know you were going, and if you wanted to go for a bike ride, really what’s the risk - given that you wouldn’t come into contact with anyone. And you could just say you were going to work. I do cycle to work by the way so that could be true. And my husband runs to work a few days a week.

People are allowed out to the supermarket.

How about if you walk/run instead of drive and maybe not even go to the nearest one?

Go as many times as you're allowed to shop and you might get 2/3/4? outings with a decent walk a week? That's not breaking the rules.

If the rules are too restrictive, people are going to bend/ignore them. I also go walking in the countryside and rarely see people and never get close to them.

Even if an infected person is out doing this unless you're congregating together to cough all over each other or engaging in some communal stile licking the risk just is not there. If anyone coughs, the breeze is going to dilute the droplets and they'll fall to the ground in seconds anyway.

You have to think about the consequences of the restrictions too. Confining people to go mad in their own homes is going to tip many people over the edge.

Well said Ortega.

From the BBC website about an update that is expected later today following the COBRA meeting

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51901818

'Mr Shapps told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that those asked to stay home would still be able to go for a walk outside.

"It's about being sensible but not mixing in crowds," he said'

Hurrah for common sense!

In Austria in lockdown at the moment. Our province permits walks outside in the fresh air but only on your own or with the people who live in your household. However, Tyrol has a more serious Corona problem and they are not allowed to leave the house for a walk - only for food shopping, to go to essential work or to help the elderly. So, similar to Spain.

Whether you are allowed to exercise outside or not depends on the extent of the lockdown.

I'm just thankful I have a.house, there are entire families living in small rooms with no cooking facilities. But as usual those families seem to have been forgotten in any of the plans set out.

Fwiw I don't think it will be that bad if we're allowed out daily to buy food. I'll be taking it in turns with dp to enjoy the two mile walk to our nearest supermarket and back (( no car so no.choice ))

What about gardens?

liberoncolours · 17/03/2020 09:00

We are in France and on lockdown now for 2 weeks. Gardens are fine as long as there is some distance. There are very clear guidelines about what we can and can't do accessible easily on the net. We are being asked to stay home if at all possible and have a list of things we can go out for which is essential work, essential family stuff, food and pharmacy, and - key to this thread - we are permitted to go out for walks and runs for health reasons and dog walks provided that we are on our own, keep our distance from others and for this and everything else we need to carry a sworn statement about who we are, our identity details and why we are out. School in constant communication. We are being kept up to date with government measures and statistics. Face masks are being supplied to pharmacies for indiv use if we have to go out and are ill.

I doubt we’d ever have the same sort of lockdown as China we’re too different a country.
You can walk dogs just don’t go within 2 meters of anyone and don’t touch anything outside.

Duchessofblandings · 17/03/2020 09:27

selfisolate

“so if u have a back garden, then thats fine? be nice to get outside even if its just within that “

Unfortunately, no. Dr. Sarah Jarvis advised not to go into your garden on radio 4 on Monday (I think it was) before the updated, more stringent advice, certainly not while you are in the active (coughing) phase, unless you and your neighbours are at least 2 metres clear either side of your boundary,

liberoncolours · 17/03/2020 11:26

The advice from Dr Sarah Jarvis sounds perfectly sensible and means that yes, most people will be able to go into their garden if they have one. Unless you are coughing and your neighbour is standing within 2 metres of you.
