If we lockdown, is outside exercise allowed?

I’m interested to understand what’s allowed and not in places where lockdown has been implemented. Reading about Spain and it says people are to be allowed out ‘for emergencies, to buy food, or for work’. What’s the reality of how it’s policed, how would they know you were going, and if you wanted to go for a bike ride, really what’s the risk - given that you wouldn’t come into contact with anyone. And you could just say you were going to work. I do cycle to work by the way so that could be true. And my husband runs to work a few days a week.

Of course your back garden is fine as long as you are a few metres from another human.

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:21

In Italy they're on lockdown and they're not allowed to leave the house unless they have a form to say they're going to buy food/go to the pharmacist and you can only go one person

You can go to work.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 15/03/2020 21:23

I'm in Italy and we have been told not to jog/walk unless getting groceries/medicine. If we can go out for a walk on our own as pos have said I'm glad but not really fair on kids too young to go out on their own.

expatinspain · 15/03/2020 21:24

I'm in Spain and sport is absolutely not allowed. If you are out of your house with no good reason they can fine you up to 35,000 €! You can take the dog for a wee. All journeys e.g. to work, to supermarket, to doctors etc must be solo. Most of us are stuck at home for 15 days. They are also stating that kids shouldn't be brought on the good shop. At least I can get out for that, DD has to be at home.

*food shop

The issue with just popping out for a run etc whilst in lockdown is as much to do with if something happens to you while out. So, you get injured, and need to call an ambulance for example, you're then potentially needlessly infecting others.

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:27

How often does that happen?!

isthistoonosy · 15/03/2020 21:28

Are people allowed out in their gardens during a lockdown?

EasterIssland · 15/03/2020 21:29

Spanish here. You’re not allowed to exercise. What if something happens to you and need to be taken to an over stretched already hospital ?

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:32

What if something happens to you and need to be taken to an over stretched already hospital that is crazy logic.

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:34

Are people allowed out in their gardens during a lockdown? well, according to that viral video, Italians can stand on balconies next to each other and sing, so don't see why gardens would be a problem

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2020 21:34

I think Les Mills ought to make on demand free for the duration. Grin

Seventyone72seventy3 · 15/03/2020 21:39

Gardens ok - unfortunately we don't have one. Sad

sassbott · 15/03/2020 21:41

Yes you are allowed out in your own garden. It’s private land that you own. No one can tell you what to do on your own land.

But as others have said, if you’re self isolating then you go into your garden alone (and minus other family members if you’re isolating from them). Which would be nigh on impossible for me. I couldn’t self isolate and leave my children to their own devices. And nor could I expect them to self isolate away from me.

Aesopfable · 15/03/2020 21:43

If you're infected, every time you cough or sneeze outside (even before you're showing symptoms) you're spreading disease droplets everywhere.

Everywhere within a two metre radius for a few minutes....

Most accidents take place in the home.

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:46

I have coughed and sneezed and farted outside for years. I have literally no neighbours. I will carry on.

The world has seriously gone mad! Restricting people from going out in densely populated areas such as cities and major towns will I expect be the governments/local councils priority due to the potential risk of spreading the virus, however I expect due to resources and funding there’s absolutely no way they (the government ect) can actually stop people from going outside of their own homes. There’s simply not enough police officers and other resources across the UK to be able to sanction people from leaving their own homes.

AcrossthePond55 · 15/03/2020 21:48

I'm pretty sure by 'isolate' they mean 'stay on your own property'. So of course farmers are going to be able to go about their business, they're on their own property. And I assume if they had some 'non-contiguous' fields, that would be permitted as 'going to and from work'.

And of course, you'd be allowed out in your own garden, assuming you have enough space to stay at least 6 ft away from your neighbours when you're out there or (I assume) have a high enough fence to prevent you from coughing all over their garden furniture or whatever.

OhLook · 15/03/2020 21:49

How would you pass the dog to a dog walker if you're self isolating?

MadamePewter · 15/03/2020 21:51

How far will you be allowed to travel in lockdown? My DP lives near me but not with me and I fear for my sanity if I’m locked in my house with just my DCs

MadamePewter · 15/03/2020 21:51

And 500m isn’t much to walk a dog!

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:52

Also Covid 19 can live on dogs (although they can't actually get it), so what dog walker would want to walk it?

bythehairsonmychinichinchin · 15/03/2020 21:53

@expatinspain who is ‘they’ that can fine you for being outside of the house? also what evidence do ‘they’ need to be able to prove that ‘they’ (who ever ‘they’ even is) to actually fine people for being outside of their homes?
