Who is carrying on as normal/going out and about and sticking to plans?

There seems to be a real divide.
Among my friends, ,many are staying put, cancelling plans and hunkering down for the next week and waiting to see how the land lies.
The other half are still of the 'pfff it's going to blow over' camp and are merrily talking about their trip to thailand and making plans for summer bbqs.

It's really unnerving. I flip between being utterly terrified to that reading about Nadine Dorries who seems to be recovering well, and hoping it's not going to be as bad as I expect.

I'm not feeling great but have to work as I'm self employed.

Worrying as I'm not sure if I have it but need money.

I keep thinking about this thread. I wonder if those who tried to justify their selfish idiocy by saying they were supportibg local business and they d prefer to die than to live in an economic wasteland bla bla bla feel today. How will they feel next week? The week after. There seems to be a tendency to blame millenials for the exponential growth. The ones on here going to the theatre are unlikely millenials.... And even if they were. It WAS PREDICTABLE.

Please learn from this. You are not protecting yourself by staying home. You are not protecting your elderly relative. You are protecting everyone by playing your part in flattening the curve. You may not care if you get it (🤔), but the over 65 yr old who is denied icu care because you are taking it up will.

@sixeightfour What work do you do? You absolutely can't go out if you think you have it.

daisychain01 · 21/03/2020 10:03

How many people do you actually know who take all those precautions and then pile into the supermarkets in droves and trample on top of each other to panic buy.

Or is that just an assumption you've made or seen it on social media.

My MIL has just texted DD to offer to take her to a garden centre. I said 'no'. I can see arguments ahead between me and MIL and would like some tips on managing that!

@RangasNugget can you ensure that father has paperwork on his person at all times or next to bed at night explaining that his strategy and wishes are what you described and declining any medical care. I think it is very unlikely he would receive any ICU care but especially in the early stages of this he could still take up ambulance or hospital time and it is crucial that those are saved for people who have decided to try and survive.

For anyone who is still having any face-to-face interactions other than as absolutely necessary to get food and medicines, or to do their essential "key worker" job, please listen to the first 4 minutes of this and then see whether you want to carry on in the same way.

Over the course of a week since this thread started we are now completely different. Since Monday it’s been like this: Exclusively work from home (DH already did but I did half and half), no visits, social distancing, older children lost their small jobs and face an uncertain future, no idea about exam results, no gym, I disinfect everything, hardly any shopping. The only constant has been the dog walking but we are avoiding other people now.

How do people feel now? Like you stupid SIL laughing at it all and now deleting all the stupid things you put on Facebook and you saying you were going to the races and stereophonics as it was fine and angry at me for not going.
