Just witnessed the future in Asda car park!

Just witnessed an elderly lady telling a man in a face mask that "he should be staying at home if he has it"

He then told her that he didn't have it and it was a precaution.

He sounded like he was Italian so she shouted "I bet you have been to Italy"

He then flew into a tirade shouting that she should be self isolating as she was over 70 - and to quote him "you're all going to F**ing die if you don't!

As I walked away they were still screaming at each other from their cars!

Is this the future! We will all be turning on each other!

People are buyingbaby milk formulato put in drinks?! OMFG I've heard it all now.

This is just awful. This nation is so greedy, having to ration might do us good.

There was roughly 100 people queuing this morning, at the supermarket where my dp works. Most of those probably off work 'self isolating'.

The staff are recieving abuse, and the management are nowhere to be seen. Feel so sorry for retail workers at the minute, the frontline staff should be getting hefty bonuses from the profits.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 17/03/2020 09:46

Must admit there was a woman out yesterday with a small child who was clearly I'll. Coughing her guts up and really upset. The mum didn't look too well either (( no need for them to be there, they were in a large, famy group. ))

It pisses me off when people do this anyways, little ones just want to be in bed when ill, not out sharing their germs. But I was surprised at how angry it made me feel 😳😳😳 I didn't say anything, but FFS. Keep your germ riddled kid at home. 😷😷😷

Oh and my friend got into a row with an elderly lady over a bag of flour she had in her bag. She was accused of not baking and just buying it to show off. I was highly amused at that one. Grin 😂😂😂

Soubriquet · 17/03/2020 09:49

Buying flour just to show it off GrinGrinGrin

I love it

retirementrocks · 17/03/2020 10:14

On a kinder note, our local area in inner London has several community groups that people are joining so they can help people who can't leave their homes with shopping, walking the dog etc.
I think that there will always be horrid examples of self serving behaviour but I continue to believe that most people are kind and want to help others. I say this having spent many, many years working with people who were really poor and/or living their lived in difficult circumstances and can count on one hand the number of people I came across who were shits!

shirleybanister · 17/03/2020 12:50

Just been reading some of the posts on mumsnet.
It seems obvious to me that the government needs to step in with some sort of rationing scheme - NOW!

Teabag37 · 17/03/2020 13:04

Here in Italy we have seen none of this, only 1 person per family is allowed to shop & only about 30 people at a time allowed in (lg supermarket) to be able to maintain the 1 mt distance & elderly are usually allowed to jump the queue....with no arguments

user1493379562 · 17/03/2020 14:09

I did find that having a peri menopausal hot flush is a great way to clear a supermarket isle though
I love it!

frazzledasarock · 17/03/2020 14:25

DP went shopping at our local Lidl (within walking distance) was out of loo roll and kitchen towels but everything else was fine, they had pasta apparently.

He returned home triumphantly with six bread rolls from the bakery, claiming he panic bought them. I doubt it as there’s six of us and he always brings home fresh baked goods.

He said an old dear on leaving the store remarked ‘I don’t know why I bought so much I only needed a few things’!

The shop was fairly full but nobody was fighting over items.

We’re carrying on as normal. I’m fairly certain I could make edible food for the rest of the month with what I have in.

Did ask him to panic buy one pack of green chillies next time he goes out.

We’ve re-named our regularly shopping as panic buying.

I would hope we’d all pull together if things get bad.

Jespers · 17/03/2020 14:30

In our neighbourhood people are setting up grps to support one another, and doing shopping for those in self isolation.
Parents are sharing info on activities for kids and home schooling ideas.
The local community centre is a hub for info for volunteers, and the local pub is making meals to be delivered to the elderly and vulnerable.
There's still food on shelves as people seem to be being fairly sensible and /or unselfish.
It's not all doom and gloom.
Meanwhile in the USA people are 'panic buying' guns...

Ohms11 · 17/03/2020 14:52

I went to my local shops here in rural Northern Ireland this past few days. There was enough of everything. People were polite and queued quietly. I was served with a smile, and the butcher sent home a free pie for my elderly parents. # shop local!

pentaplanet · 18/03/2020 01:48

Most ( 95% ) of us British people are still very friendly , happy, smiley, polite, helpful, co-operative, and humorous...Britain is still by far the best place on planet Earth to live, especially in times of crisis!

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 01:50

Meanwhile in the USA people are 'panic buying' guns.

Terrifying.
I’ll take loo roll and freezers any day. Thank god that’s all it is.

BlackCatSleeping · 18/03/2020 01:51

I think most people are genuine. I'm wary of people offering help. Unfortunately with every disaster, there are always people willing to exploit that disaster and take advantage of people.

Oliversmumsarmy · 18/03/2020 01:56

This has been all brought about because there is a virus that passes from person to person

The irony of keeping away from people in order to try and keep yourself safe from a potentially deadly disease but then getting up close and personal by fighting for a packet of bog roll seems to be lost on some people

BrokenMumTeenDD · 18/03/2020 02:24

My friend has health problems test put him in the high risk group. He works in the Co-op, can't afford not to work, knows he's needed & goes to work everyday when he's putting his life at risk. Yet he's spent every day dealing with customers shouting at him & getting aggressive over toilet tolls, beans & pasta ☹️

sashh · 18/03/2020 03:11

I witnessed an old grumpy man 80+ shouting and saying fat people didn't exist in the war,

He never saw Churchill then?

Volcanicstomach · 18/03/2020 03:23

My husband was in Aldi last night and said it was busy and there wasn’t much in the way of ‘store cupboard essentials’ but plenty of fresh stuff except bread. and there was a 4 item limit on most things.
He also paid for a paramedic’s sandwich as he went through the till and people gave him a little cheer (the paramedic, not my husband 😂)
So a decent community spirit going on there.

steppemum · 18/03/2020 10:27

popped into Farm Foods yesterday for something for dinner, as my food shop is due this morning.
Was open mouthed. Car park packed. Shop heaving. Pretty much every single feeezer empty.

I found a lone pack of oven chips and a couple of packs of battered fish, so my kids were delighted to have fish and chips.
But seriously they were amongst the last few packs of anything in the shop. I spoke to an assistant refilling a freezer. She said it had been manic all day, and people were so rude ot her, and shouting, swearing etc.

My Asda shop is due this morning. I've had the email so know it is coming. When I did it, half the things I wnated were out of stock. No rice or flour to be had at all.

The delivery note has LOADS of subs, but mostly sensible, one brand of tuna for another brand

Unavailable:
chicken
milk
eggs

Which is a pain, as I now have to try and find some milk, as we are out.

I confess I did order more than usual, I now have enough dog and cat food for a good few weeks, so I don't have to think about it, and I have added a few tins more than normal, but ironically I have done this ONLY because of the state of the shops. If no-one was panic buying, I wouldn't need to have some extra bits put by.

retirementrocks · 18/03/2020 10:50

Just been to local Aldi. Didn't even bother to try and go in as car park was packed and even with super speedy Aldi cashiers, the queues were ridiculous. Maybe I should ask my parents to pick me up a few bits whilst they're shopping in the Elder's Hour...now that's an idea!!

Funguy · 18/03/2020 11:36

I was recently ill with a jaw infection so I used my painkillers. I have fibro, it was so hard to get any at all. I usually take two a day for chronic pain.
Today I was in a shop and a woman left her card behind. The man behind teh counter ran after and gave it to her, which was nice. But then when I said 'Oh you reminded me to get a Mother's Day card' he said.'It's cancelled'. 'Not sending a card isn't,' I replied 'She is in a Home in lockdown'. Silence.
Miserable shit.
Morrisons, I let an old lady in front of me as I usually do if there is one, but the woman who eventually came in behind me kept shoving me in the back and then when the separation bar became available she slammed it down to teach me a lesson... eugh.
She was buying Saronno. Mainly. Foul stuff.

Funguy · 18/03/2020 11:39

PS, I could not complete my shopping due to greedy c...s and lack of energy amongst such aggro.

lissie123 · 18/03/2020 11:44

Local Morrisons there was an altercation in one of the isles yesterday and the police had to be called...
