Just witnessed an elderly lady telling a man in a face mask that "he should be staying at home if he has it"

He then told her that he didn't have it and it was a precaution.

He sounded like he was Italian so she shouted "I bet you have been to Italy"

He then flew into a tirade shouting that she should be self isolating as she was over 70 - and to quote him "you're all going to F**ing die if you don't!

As I walked away they were still screaming at each other from their cars!

Is this the future! We will all be turning on each other!

It’s only going to get worse for a while after this afternoon Sad

The whole issue of shopping is getting out of hand. People posting photos on social media of empty shelves are making people panic buy and causing aggression amongst shoppers. Why buy 180 toilet rolls when you have a shop? Tells me that these people are selling them at inflated prices in their shops. If this doesn't stop, we will end up with rationing and ration cards to prove what you have bought. I thought we were more civilised, obviously some people aren't

Nurgleturtle · 16/03/2020 18:29

i work for tesco ive been there for 8 years this is the worst thing weve ever encountered dont get me wrong sales are booming plenty of money for overtime but we are severely overworked right now tired and sick of being abused, this week has been horrific please spare a thought for us all in retail at the moment whilst we try our hardest to get you what you need on the shelves

Alsohuman · 16/03/2020 18:31

Not a single potato in Tesco today. Not one. Good job there’s a farm down the road that sells them in huge sacks.

Silp · 16/03/2020 18:32

To take the strain off all staff,a LARGE notice should be at the entrance & at the tills, stating MAXIMUM 2 items pperson(No matter what the item is),therefore, when these stockpiling morons reach the till, the cashier has the stores backup. I was in Asda on Sat & a customer who wks at a HOSPICE said toilet rolls are being stolen! Another customer the previous Sat who wks at Christies, said these people should be ashamed of themselves buying up all tge hand gel,as they should think about the people who are having Chemo, as cleanliness is top priority for them. These 'people' should be named & shamed by the media! Hope I never see anyone stockpiling,I'd take their photo & send it to the newspaper!!!

Toomuchtrouble4me · 16/03/2020 18:32

I saw on the news that one Icelandcstore was pensioners only from 9-10, what a great idea!

RoyEastmannKodak · 16/03/2020 18:34

My daughter works for TUI and has been taking abuse for weeks.. people angrily cancelling their holidays and ranting at DD and her colleagues as if the whole situation is their fault Confused Not all customers, obviously but the mean ones are VERY mean at the moment meaning she’s dreading going in. Which she fears she won’t be for much longer

Shortcutmummy · 16/03/2020 18:36

I had a women talking behind me to another Roberson saying people shouldn’t be allowed to hourd and then pointed out my trolley as I had multiple nappies

I told her if you check the sizes you can see they are all different sizes bar the newborn (I had two) as I was buying for a family member who was currently in labour.
She said well I should queue up for each bag of nappy - like that would’ve made a difference

I had 3 baby milks. 2 for my kids (stage 2) and 1 for the newborn but I had to put one back. I just apologised and said give me one of each as they’re for different children. No need for fights or sly comments.

hoxtonbabe · 16/03/2020 18:40

It’s times like now I wish the infinity gauntlet was real! Snap of a finger and half the population gone, specifically the selfish irrational gits/the ones selling stuff on eBay.

user1498572889 · 16/03/2020 18:48

I work in appliance retail. Over 50% of the people I spoke to today were trying to buy freezers. All said they wanted a second freezer so they can stock up on food.

Was in a mid-Wales Tesco on Saturday and the atmosphere was horrible! My DH was looking for something in a busy aisle and a member of staff bumped into him and then shouted at him for being in the way. He said 'you bumped into me?!' And she started mouthing off so he said he'd report her. She spread her arms wide and said 'well go on then! My name's kirsty!'

We were gobsmacked! I've never seen such behaviour in a bloody supermarket.

Got to the next aisle and two members of staff were slagging off all the customers.

It was hideous.

MummyMayo1988 · 16/03/2020 18:56

My mother in law works for one of the supermarkets. She was telling my DH today that people are buying baby formula to put in their tea incase of milk shortages.
This enraged me as i have a 1yr old who still drinks follow on milk. It literally terrifies me that i might not be able to get his formula. Also nappies and wipes!
I have my shopping delivered weekly but havent been able to get loo rolls for 2 weeks. Therefore I was forced to venture into town in search of some. I went to 4 different shops and couldn't find a single roll. We are down to our last 4.
Virus aside; humanity is dwindling fast!

Am I the only person inclined to give the politicians a break? I mean- they're human. They don't have magic powers. In situations like this, my feeling is basically whichever mainstream politician is in charge is 70% likely to get SOMETHING wrong. 15% - they'll get lucky and what they decide goes right. 15% - down to their own good judgment. I don't think Corbyn et all would be any better or worse than this lot. I have a lot of sympathy tbh. Don't envy them.

Donald Trump on the other hand (not mainstream politico) trying to buy up the vaccine company in GErmany for a billion? What is with that???

kizkiz · 16/03/2020 19:00

I finished work at 11pm yesterday. Popped into the local huge tesco that opened at midnight. There were 15 of us. Shelves were quite empty, but were being stacked. Managed to get toilet roll, pasta, paracetamol etc. Only thing missing was eggs and long life milk.
The problem was how much stock they got delivered. They only had 6 calpol, 7 large bags of pasta and 12 packets of paracetamol. Those were gone within minutes of midnight. Nobody going in at a reasonable time would have got any. A

AutumnCrow · 16/03/2020 19:04

A number of different posters are claiming to have witnessed a number of these scenarios on various MN threads (and on FB). There's an air of 'urban myth' about a couple of them.

Thelaughinggnome123 · 16/03/2020 19:11

Been to sainsburys and tescos today to get most of my usual shop. Quite calm just one woman coughing open mouthed over the tomatoes. Shame i am too non confrontational to tell her off.

theflushedzebra · 16/03/2020 19:15

I went to a local co-op today. All was congenial. Shelves were low of stock, but they were re-stocking as I shopped. I got bread, milk, some veg, some fish, lots of chocolate, some wine etc etc.

People seemed very smiley, but everyone was definitely keeping the distance. As it should be, really.

boybabies · 16/03/2020 19:19

Hmm.
Think it's important to all do our part re mass hysteria and negativity.
I'm a police officer in north of England - literally no reports of assaults etc at supermarkets since this all started.
Queues a bit longer, shortage of toilet rolls, that's it.
Don't think we're quite rioting in the streets!

TheGreatWave · 16/03/2020 19:28

I like to see what others are bulk buying. The woman behind me had high priorities x3 boxes of 48 cans of coke!!!!!!!!!

I didn't quite get to that, but on Saturday I got 4 X 18 in Farmfoods, I usually do that. I then went next door to Asda and bulked bought Pritt Stick as they were selling it off.

So plenty of Blue Peter style creations as I drink my coke.

Doubletrouble99 · 16/03/2020 19:30

I would suggest shopping in small independent shops for a while. Keep them in business. I'm glad I have to self isolate for the next 12 weeks and DH will be doing any shopping.

Ricoetbello · 16/03/2020 19:31

How do people afford all this huge buying?
What's gonna happen if they the stuff goes bad. How do they fit things in fridges

Connie222 · 16/03/2020 19:35

@MummyMayo1988 there’s a special place in hell for people buying formula milk to put in tea. Absolute fucking arseholes.

Musermum · 16/03/2020 19:41

I was in Tesco this morning (in NI). No toilet roll or hand gel but plenty of everything else. Everyone was standing chatting... No angry scenes, no shouting, nothing. Wee bit proud of my town tbh.

Queenofeverything44 · 16/03/2020 19:47

I have to admit I had my tesco shop delivered just before the "bonkers" took over last week. I did add some stuff for my elderly neighbours. I will be honest, I am scared to go to our local big tesco because the videos shared online. We have a little tesco express for milk etc and they've been pretty well stocked. I am on my own with a 10yr old & 15 Yr old at home so we don't need much.. I have a bit spare for my eldest daughter if she needs it. I'm a planner not a hoarder. Instead of million tons of pasta I bought some pasta flour and dusted off the pasta machine (takes an apocalypse for me to use it 😂😂) I got some bread flour & yeast so the kids can make pizzas to keep busy.
I'm not going to go shopping to get sworn at or watch the elderly cry. I live on a road that has a lot of sheltered housing and my neighbours know if they need something I will get it to/or for them. I will do doorstep drops or meals. We did it when the Xmas the snow was horrendous. I'm lucky that we have a fab community spirit. I'm not sure what ppl think is going to happen. It's so sad.

Alsohuman · 16/03/2020 19:55

Completely agree, it takes a special kind of shit to do that.
