Just witnessed an elderly lady telling a man in a face mask that "he should be staying at home if he has it"

He then told her that he didn't have it and it was a precaution.

He sounded like he was Italian so she shouted "I bet you have been to Italy"

He then flew into a tirade shouting that she should be self isolating as she was over 70 - and to quote him "you're all going to F**ing die if you don't!

As I walked away they were still screaming at each other from their cars!

Is this the future! We will all be turning on each other!

All relatively normal near me (London). Pasta is a bit low, and there was very little novelty gin left in M&S, everyone seemed fine. People talking about getting stuff for neighbors etc...

@alexasaymyname

Are you Japanese?

God daughter is Chinese. When this first came out she already had an annoying ‘winter cough’ & I was worried about how people would be. Fortunately people weren’t too bad. The kids at school were a bit ‘ ONG you have corona’ ewwww but in a stupid teenage joking way. I asked if she was upset by it and she just said Not, obviously there’s more chance I’ve been to China or seen people who have been to China than the others! What’s there to get upset by?!’ She’s a brilliant kid, so level headed and sensible (honestly, I’d like to be her!!

I’d feel a bit of a moose wearing a mask now, but I wouldn’t be scared to.

@sofacat I actually said to DH that people were missing a trick round here. Peanut butter is a superfood. If you find out your baby has a dairy allergy the dietician recommends peanut butter. High in protein and fat, long life and has no extra storage requirements once open. Versatile too - in baking or with cereal or on toast, in deserts, satay chicken or just with a spoon in the jar!

Unfortunately my dairy-allergic child is also peanut and nut allergic so we can't have it in the house anymore.

just go to the supermarket at night. Tesco is good, if you go after about 10pm they will be putting out stock for the next day and there will be hardly anyone there.

I'm just waiting for the chance to loot Hugo rice, I fancy a new Rolex Grin

The town I live in is a bit on the tough side.
I have seen people trying to get a community spirit going on FB so it's not all

My local FAcebook group had loads of people offering to help a mum of twins who was down to her last tin of formula. .. Offering her their own tins, telling her which nearby shops had stock and quite a few offering to go out and buy her some.

Went to local tesco which was well stocked , only the poncy expensive loo roll left . Did overhear one woman saying to another "do you really need an entire tray of beans?" But the bean buyer replied "yes, my kids eat loads and that is the usual amount I buy!"

avamiah · 16/03/2020 17:34

I just know that I went to my local Tesco this morning , the same one I have been going to for 8 years ( I’m in London ).
They had no toilet roll( they haven’t had any for 5 days ) but today they had no kitchen roll, no baby wipes, no shower gel , no shampoo and no hand wash , no sanitiser and no instant noodles .??
So much for my shopping at my local store that’s all I can say .
I mean who is buying all the shampoo and shower Gel now.
It’s just getting ridiculous .

Boredoftherain · 16/03/2020 17:49

A friend who I don't think I can stay friends with sent me a text along the lines of "lots of ch*nks out in masks today, you're the ones that brought the coronavirus here!". These times can bring out the best and worst in people depending on the individual.

Bookaboutbyrds · 16/03/2020 17:50

98% of the reason I bought an Ocado smartpass in December was because I was utterly fed up with the bad behaviour in my local supermarket (customers, not staff). That was before the whole virus thing started, I dread to think what it's like now.

MollyMinniesMum · 16/03/2020 17:51

A sad reflection on society.

BarneyW · 16/03/2020 17:52

My 74 year old mother got slated on Facebook (on her village's group) for daring to go out because she returned from Spain (an uninfected area at the time) three days before. She is in a complete state and is now terrified to go out. I am so furious, she is showing now symptoms, had washed her hands and kept 2 meters away from everyone. We've got to pull together on this or we are all going to drive ourselves mad.

August1980 · 16/03/2020 17:58

I might be showing my ignorance here but I thought face masks don’t work.. why are people wearing it. I know some cultures wear it out of respect but why are people wearing it if it has no use. It’s a real shame people are being horrid to each other!

This is the me, me, me society we live in . No one cares about anyone else. These people who are hording toilet rolls, I wasn't aware that a symptom of Covid 19 was getting the squits!? For god sakes toilet paper is made in the UK, we are not going to run out. As for hand sanitizer, it is anti bacterial, not antiviral, so will not kill a virus, there are some very stupid people out there.

I went to Tesco, they had 3 packs of 9 rolls left, I took one because I didn't need 3. Just take what you need and think of other people. I do really despair with humanity and think we should use the word 'civilized' sparingly!

Shops can do their bit too, if someone buys ten packs of loo rolls, the checkout staff should call over a manager who will tell the customer they are selfish and it's a maximum of two packs each, if they kick off tell them to get out and refuse to serve them, it's simple!

Not all elderly people are nice. An elderly woman took my parking space as I was waiting patiently for about 15 minutes for a free space and then showed me her middle finger as she was pulling in.

EvilPea · 16/03/2020 18:10

Last week people were quite jolly and in good spirits. Today, utter bastards. Tutting, head shaking and just horrible to each other.

People are scared and frightened and taking it out on each other.

PerfidiousAlbion · 16/03/2020 18:12

The wafer-thin veneer of civilisation is beginning to slip.

BW70 · 16/03/2020 18:14

I like to see what others are bulk buying. The woman behind me had high priorities x3 boxes of 48 cans of coke!!!!!!!!!

Oscarsdaddy · 16/03/2020 18:15

Someone on a local FB group posted a video of people having fisticuffs in Aldi earlier over a pack of meatballs.

FFS people need to get a fucking grip !

jany70 · 16/03/2020 18:16

I have just got back from my local Waitrose, perfectly fine, well stocked,
no ques, I even dropped a packet of biscuits and an old man picked them up for me. I think the majority of people are sensible, but you will always get the idiots and the feral people in life.
(Just spray them with your sanitiser.....).

PerfidiousAlbion · 16/03/2020 18:18

Or should that be civility?

skyblu · 16/03/2020 18:19

Humans!
We are our own worst enemy and will be our own downfall.
Supposedly the “most intelligent” species. With some people, that’s really questionable.

TheSoundofSilence · 16/03/2020 18:20

It was the great 20th century American philosopher, Eric Hoffer, who said that in order to predict the future, all we need do is read and reveal the present. You are right, I am afraid and I fear for the future of humanity. Of course, the instigators of all this (the ones pulling the strings) are revelling in the chaos, and unless the Great Ones emerge from the shadows and intervene, the future looks very bleak indeed.
