Does anyone think Boris is right?
Emcont · 15/03/2020 08:37
I'm not saying I do. But I'm curious to see if anyone agrees with the strategy they're going for as most of what I'm reading is against.
Mumtothelittlefella · 15/03/2020 10:22
I want to believe in him, I really do. Time will tell.
MrsL2016 · 15/03/2020 10:26
I think people are afraid and because he is doing something different to most countries they believe it's the wrong move. Only time will tell. I am no Boris fan (far from it) and he had lied and deceived so many in the election and over brexit, but I trust the chief scientist and medical advisor to give guidance to the best of their abilities. Also plans can and will need to change as this situation develops.

Yes - I do.
It isn’t a question of ‘Boris’ being right - these decisions are being taken by COBRA/SAGE. He’s fronting them because he is the Prime Minister.
Avoiding a second peak when we come out of lockdown makes total sense to me. Especially if it means avoiding a peak in winter.
ILoveAnOwl · 15/03/2020 10:32
Economically, it probably makes most sense.
So less people go bankrupt, but more people die.
Choose your poison I guess?
Alwaysreadyforbed · 15/03/2020 10:33
Yes. On mumsnet, it’s very left so anything Boris does will be wrong. Even to the point where they’ve said they are killing off the elderly but when they are apparently bringing in measures to protect them, like self isolation, it’s still wrong.
LastTrainEast · 15/03/2020 10:34
I believe that the experts behind him are offering a short list of options none of which come with guarantees. Whether the one he is choosing turns out best... well we won't know will we as won't know how the other scenarios would have gone. I'm not an expert so in this instance my opinion is pretty worthless.
The people complaining that he is protecting the economy seem to be missing the point that '"the economy" is your jobs, your benefits and your mortgage.
If we all just went home for six months none of you would have jobs to go back to and homes to live in. But that wouldn't matter as you would have starved with no one working to produce food etc.

I think the people of the UK are being treated as Guinea pigs. I think he is trying this herd immunity to see if it works but at the expense of your lives. If it works great but if it doesn't........
no one else is doing it, it's a big risk if it doesn't work. tbh, I am kind of glad that here in Ireland, while it may feel that alot of what our government is putting in place can feel like an over reaction, it does feel safer and while our numbers are still rising, they are not rising at the same rate as other countries. Thankfully our government has also provided a back up plan for anyone that can't go to work, there will be social welfare payments paid immediately and not have to wait 6 days, also self employed are also included in these payments, while it's not a whole lot of money it's something.

And it’s not just Boris. All parties are in on the talks but you don’t hear anyone criticising them.
