And do you think lockdown in the UK will happen within the next month?

OP posts:
Ellisandra · 14/03/2020 21:30

It will happen on the 16th April, so no - not within a month.
It will peak in June 12th, slow dramatically from July 23rd, and by about 6th November everyone will realise they need to start panicking about the EU transition period ending.

HTH.

Prestonsouthend · 14/03/2020 21:34

No Idea
Yes

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 14/03/2020 21:36

🔮

Unhomme · 14/03/2020 21:37

As per ElliSandra but with the transition period panic starting in July

Butterwhy · 14/03/2020 21:38

I think it will become part of life, but better managed in terms of medications and vaccines available going forward, and it will just become part of life like the flu. This particular situation I reckon a couple of months, and then some time to get things back to 'normal' again, whatever that looks like. I do think the effects will be felt for a long time.

PinkiOcelot · 14/03/2020 21:38

@Ellisandra sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.
No idea OP. I can imagine that we will go in to lockdown like Italy and Spain.

inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 21:39

In the uk I think it will be basically over by 16 months
I think the schools in Scotland will close in May (open for exams only)
In England they will close in June
I think at risk groups will be asked to isolate in May

inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 21:39

16 weeks sorry

Redcrayons · 14/03/2020 21:39

@Ellisandra how do you know the precise dates?

CrocodilesCry · 14/03/2020 21:40

It will peak in May/June - this has already been confirmed. It will likely return as the weather turns in November.

Redcrayons · 14/03/2020 21:40

Doh I’ve just realised you’re joking.

Good job I didn’t put them in my diary Grin

Kinneddar · 14/03/2020 21:42

If only there was a CV section for threads like this.......

inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 21:42

I think there will be a return but will become more like seasonal flu

Bagelsandbrie · 14/03/2020 21:43

I think it will become another seasonal flu. But worse than flu. I think all vulnerable groups - like myself- will have two vaccines or a combined vaccine for normal flu and corona each year in the future.

Ffsnosexallowed · 14/03/2020 21:45

We've been told (NHS) that there is likely to be a24 week cycle. Peak around week 17, we're in about week 7 - 8

DropZoneOne · 14/03/2020 21:46

I thought the scientist chap on newsnight on Thursday said the short bell curve was 15 weeks, which would make the long bell curve we're attempting much longer. But i may have misheard.

Bearing in mind this started in December in China, ramped up by mid January and took 2 months to peak - with lockdown - I think the peak will be school summer holidays. Although without recording how many people go sick, I'm not sure how we'll know.

inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 21:47

@Ffsnosexallowed that doesn't match what they said on Thursday after the cobra meeting?

inselfisolationnow · 14/03/2020 21:48

@Ffsnosexallowed ignore me. Peak is 10 weeks from now that does match

shinyredbus · 14/03/2020 21:49

June to peak.

SapphireSalute · 14/03/2020 21:51

majority of the year is my guess.....this is our new normal

but aren't they looking forwards towards 2021 and vaccine development?

Ellisandra · 14/03/2020 21:52

@Redcrayons 🔮 😉🤣

Ellisandra · 14/03/2020 21:56

@PinkiOcelot actually I wasn’t being sarcastic. My timings are what I think in answer to the OP’s questions. The point of the precise dates was just to highlight the futility of asking MN what’s going to happen.

Dodie66 · 14/03/2020 22:03

New measures coming in. Read about the elderly then further down about other measures www.itv.com/news/2020-03-14/elderly-to-be-quarantined-for-four-months-in-wartime-style-mobilisation-to-combat-coronavirus/

Beesisabuzzin · 14/03/2020 22:03

Well there isn't going to be a vaccine for 12-18 months so it's going to last until then or until the last person is naturally immune. It'll come in waves and this first phase will be the worst and will last a few months. Then it'll start to improve. But you just need one infected person to start the next wave although hopefully then we'll have some herd immunity. It's not going to be fun.
