So we’ve had more new cases in the last 24 hours than Germany, our deaths have doubled...

We’ve overtaken Norway, Japan and Denmark in the total number of cases, who all shut schools early on. Denmark went into lockdown and have only had 23 cases in the last 24 hours. What is going on?

OP posts:
middleager · 14/03/2020 14:44

What's going on is Boris experimenting with our lives.

I feel.powerless, angry and scared.

MillieMoodle · 14/03/2020 14:45

1,140 cases and 21 have sadly died. What will it take for more action?

We are trying to distance ourselves socially as much as possible at the moment but most of the people we know irl are carrying on as normal.

Evenquieterlife33 · 14/03/2020 14:46

Seriously I don’t know. I’m really considering keeping my kids home next week as this unfolds. I am not comfortable sending them in knowing they are more likely than not to contract this. Ultimately if that goes badly thats my responsibility for not listening to my instinct. I’ve cancelled going to A massive concert tonight, DH is working from home - his office has shit down due to a case at work. The only most likely reason now that we contract and pass on is through the kids. I feel socially irresponsible. My youngest has a school trip that is residential in U.K in a area with lots more cases than our home town, in a week and they haven’t cancelled! I feel like we are just walking into this. I don’t trust this idea of herd immunity I feel like it will lead to far more seriously ill and deaths. I need to find a solution.

Thescrewinthetuna · 14/03/2020 14:46

They were waiting for the right moment to do it and I’d say it’s now. I’m a SAHM so it’s easy for me to keep the kids off and not go anywhere but I really hope there are plans in place for families who work in the NHS/police/supermarkets etc. I will help if I can.

EastCoastDamsel · 14/03/2020 14:48

I'm taking my kids out of school from Monday. Not taking anymore chances

ballsdeep · 14/03/2020 14:48

It's a crock of shite. I'm going to keep my kids home I think . Someone in my son's class is self isolating with the family because a family member has a temp and a cough.

Jamieson90 · 14/03/2020 14:50

No temperature checks at airports, planes and ships still coming in, no travel bans, schools and sporting events open for weeks with the latter only just now being stopped. People have been saying all along this was going to happen. The WHO said it would happen, other governments have, even Joe public. Only our incompetent government thought otherwise.

SerendipitySunshine · 14/03/2020 15:20

Keeping our dd off school and working from home from now on.

RainbowPenguins · 14/03/2020 15:27

Even the WHO say restricting travel and temperature checks are ineffective. So to suggest otherwise is just scaremongering.

tootiredtoconga · 14/03/2020 15:29

If I had the option to keep my DC home from school and Nursery I would seriously consider it. But I work in a school and the Government is insisting we must stay open.

We have a government who will always prioritise the economy over the health and well-being of vulnerable people. Why would anyone trust Boris Johnson to do the right thing now when he has been proven time and again to be fundamentally untrustworthy?

tootiredtoconga · 14/03/2020 15:36

This is true. But they also strongly recommend implementing 'track and trace', whereas we've stopped testing anyone who isn't already hospitalised. They have also advocated being proactive about social distancing measures, which we're still resisting despite pretty much every other country closing schools, banning large events etc. So it's not like the current Government response is based on WHO advice.

Wannabangbang · 14/03/2020 15:37

Im not sure what to do monday

BeardedMum · 14/03/2020 15:39

What will happen if we just email school and say keeping child at home? Won’t they hunt us down because we are ruining BF attendance figures ?

bettyboo40 · 14/03/2020 15:45

Attendance in my school was down to 80% on Friday. I imagine it will be more next week, plus with the new advice to stay home if you have a cough.

Applejaxx · 14/03/2020 15:45

Of course Boris doesnt care. He's a psychopath. He doesn't give a flying shit about people dying, all he's bothered about is protecting economy at all costs in order to keep on the right side of his rich mates.

Many of us have always known this and we did try and warn those muppets who voted for him in December. But there you go, I'd like to say you reap what you sew but I think thats way too harsh given the circumstances.

Wannabangbang · 14/03/2020 16:22

He might care if he catches it, he's like 70 isn't he🤔 time will tell that might make him u turn

pigsDOfly · 14/03/2020 16:29

Boris Johnson is 55.

Yes of course it's clear the UK are not taking all of the advice. But it's important we stick to facts on BOTH sides to avoid misinformation and scaremongering to specific things like travel bans.

A country saying they have put a travel ban in place sounds like they are taking huge action when actually it's not effective.

finished31 · 14/03/2020 16:33

My DS is in Y9 and asthmatic, kept him off on Friday and contemplating doing the same from Monday.

Not really sure why school can say tbh!

pelirocco123 · 14/03/2020 16:39

Did you really expect it not to escalate ? Even of the checks were effective there was only ever one way it was going to go

StealthNinjaMum · 14/03/2020 16:41

Op don’t Norway and Denmark only have populations of about 5 million? I’m not sure about japan - but is it possible to edit your op as it’s scaremongering?

TheMarzipanDildo · 14/03/2020 16:44

He might care if he catches it, he's like 70 isn't he

Harsh!

Purplewhitelie · 14/03/2020 16:46

Most will be signed off as old age pneumonia.

So actual death rate will be a lot higher.

Purplewhitelie · 14/03/2020 16:47

Well a new born baby has tested positive so that’s not good.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/03/2020 16:52

Boris Johnson is 55.

Yeah but he looks like shit. He was looking horribly pasty last week.
