"Do not just let this fire burn" From WHO

YoursTunbridgeWells · 13/03/2020 18:18

Is this a dig at our Governement?

*Not testing alone,” he said. “Not contact tracing alone. Not quarantine alone. Not social distancing alone. Do it all. Find, isolate, test and treat every case, to break the chains of transmission … Do not just let this fire burn.”

Somewhere I think he intimated that the UK's strategy was dangerous.

Surely this is as direct as their indirect statements can get!!!

YoursTunbridgeWells · 13/03/2020 18:21

I think so.

If we could mass march in London we would. We can't.

PNomintrude · 13/03/2020 18:22

Who said this? Someone at the WHO?

turkeyontheplate · 13/03/2020 18:22

Meanwhile the Eton Mess is inviting us all to a giant fucking chicken pox party.

Youngatheart00 · 13/03/2020 18:23

Well, according to the government, we could! Hmm

This is either extremely smart or extremely stupid. I know which I’m inclined to believe. However we are (to an extent) all in control of our own actions, even if those have consequences. I will be pretty much limiting social contact for the foreseeable.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/03/2020 18:29

We won’t know until it’s all over. What the best approach was. I’m surprised we’ve not locked down a bit, but I think there’s an argument for the way we are doing it tbh.

Meruem · 13/03/2020 18:35

I agree we are in control of our own actions but many people are employed by people who will only take government advice on the situation. The government advice is carry on as you are so people are being forced into offices when they could work from home. Parents are still facing penalties for taking their DC out of school, etc. I can see no constructive financial package that's been put into place for those that need to self isolate but can't afford to.

I would like to see the WHO publicly name and shame our government.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 13/03/2020 18:38

Yes it was said by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO director general.

Why do people think "this Government" would willingly endanger their citizens and put massive pressure on society by maximising deaths?! I am gobsmacked at the lack of trust displayed. Genuinely very worrying. Does anyone read the official published guidance? or is this all based on reporting and half-baked rants from people with either out of date or zero experience.

All nations if the UK are signed up to the approach we are taking - that governments of Conservative, Labour, SNP and Sinn Fein. Are all these governments hell bent on decimating their populations? OR are they managing an extremely complex situation, basing decisions on what will "flatten the line" not what makes people feel better. Please spend some time reading official advice and explanations for the approach.

Helmetbymidnight · 13/03/2020 18:55

I am gobsmacked at the lack of trust displayed.

Really? You're gobsmacked. This is what you get when you elect a proven liar. A man who's never done anything for the people - who was sacked twice for lying, who arranged to have people beaten up, who promised 350 mil a week for the NHS - who surrounds himself with incompetents and cheats and liars - this is our chickens coming home to roost.

Even Jeremy Hunt - who is responsible for the NHS being so over-burdened as it is - is worried about Boris' non-policy.

NeverTwerkNaked · 13/03/2020 18:57

Yes. WHO are furious with UK.

And imagine what we would have been saying about china if they had done this!

claptomania · 13/03/2020 18:58

Spot on @helmetbymidnight. The worst possible PM at the worst possible time.

Eyewhisker · 13/03/2020 18:59

Johnson has said that his hero was the Mayor from Jaws who kept the beaches open. This is not a good omen

Griefmonster · 13/03/2020 19:01

But that's my point - it's not BJs policy. I am furthest from a Tory fan-girl but this is not his policy. It's a policy devised by experts and agreed to by BJ and governments in all other nations of UK. I'm not gobsmacked nobody trusts BJ but I am gobsmacked people have such distrust in the experts advising him (and everyone else in power in UK)

Helmetbymidnight · 13/03/2020 19:03

The worst possible PM at the worst possible time.

It really is. And we deserve it, frankly. People voted for him knowing he was untrustworthy, knowing he'd never done a good deed in his life, knowing that he was a cheat, a con-artist, amoral...And now we don't have leadership we can trust.
Sucks but its not in any way surprising.

WaterSheep · 13/03/2020 19:05

Surely this is as direct as their indirect statements can get!!!

Agreed. The don't approve of our actions.

bemoreeverything · 13/03/2020 19:07

You are 'gobsmacked' that people don't trust the Conservatives?

Surely not Hmm

Foobydoo · 13/03/2020 19:12

I can't believe people are still so trusting of the 'science' which seems based on some 'clever' psychology.
As the shadow health secretary said today they need to publish this science so it can be peer reviewed. This is life and death. The stakes are too high for sound bites.

Griefmonster · 13/03/2020 19:15

Again - not what I meant. It's not BJ's or the Tories' policy. It is not - believe it or not, up to you - party political. You may not agree with experts who have given the advice bit don't dress it up as BJs incompetence or Tories being murderous. There are plenty of real examples of incompetence and cold-heartedness to chose from. But not this.

MuthaFunka61 · 13/03/2020 19:16

Remember this is the govt which has led over 17,000 people to their deaths due to their policies on DWP payments.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/pip-waiting-time-deaths-disabled-people-die-disability-benefits-personal-independence-payment-dwp-a8727296.html

The Tories have also swindled many women out of their full pensions so do I trust them to care for the health or future of the population?

Not as far as I can spit,as my granny used to say

Nancydrawn · 13/03/2020 19:24

I imagine it may well also be aimed at the US. Because if you think the UK is cocking it up, it has nothing on the States. It's really shocking: totally piecemeal, zero leadership. It's really bad over here politically and otherwise.

Jaxhog · 13/03/2020 19:26

Having heard our medical experts explain our approach, and seeing the almighty cockup in Italy and Spain, I'd say we've got it right.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/03/2020 19:27

Why the hell is the guy from WHO on channel 4 news saying exactly the opposite ConfusedHmm

fedup21 · 13/03/2020 19:27

Griefmonster · 13/03/2020 19:31
