How worried are you, right now?

Until yesterday I was mildly concerned about the virus, but I couldn't sleep last night and have been preoccupied all day. I feel like if I talk to actual people about my concerns for my family and society as a whole, it will make it real. Feels a bit like a dream.

How are you feeling today?

The more I think about the more sore my throat becomes and I get a headache!

All you can do is think calmly about it.
Do you have paracetamol in the house?
Food in the freezer?
If so, you will be fine.

You may have already had a very mild case and not known. This virus did start last December!

walkingtheway · 13/03/2020 15:31

I feel more anxious if I have rolling news or keep looking at internet/Mumsnet. If I get out into the world and see people going about their daily business I am less anxious. Or a long walk.

If you can do it I would recommend getting out and about to get back to a sense of normality. It might not be so easy soon.

curiouschickpea · 13/03/2020 15:32

Terrified. I need to step away from this forum, news etc.

Bluewavescrashing · 13/03/2020 15:33

Thank you for being kind.

I don't want to panic. Will play some games with DS to take my mind off it. DH is picking him up as, yes, I have a cold (but have had it for ages with no new symptoms).

We have food in the house, calpol, adult painkillers. I have a huge sense of impending doom.

It is very a very worrying time but I am finding it helpful to get outside in the fresh air for a walk and see that the sun is shining and everyone is getting on with life.

Not worried. At all.
I'll take it a day at a time and deal with whatever comes.
The media and social media are scaring everyone!

Chocolatedaim · 13/03/2020 15:39

You absolutely will get through it.
Have you ever tried the Calm App?

IceColdCat · 13/03/2020 15:39

I am not too worried. Que sera sera.

ThreeBlindNice · 13/03/2020 15:41

I have been feeling really anxious but today I surprisingly feel quite calm. Just wish it was all over

BrokenBrit · 13/03/2020 15:42

Worried. Carrying on, what choice do we have.

Purplewhitelie · 13/03/2020 15:44

Worried because it’s sars.

It is quoted in academia as a 5-15% death rate.

daffodilsandblossom · 13/03/2020 15:44

I am feeling really anxious. I have been paying attention to the coronavirus for around a month now and it is the past week I have seen people's attitudes really change. People who were not worrying saying the media was hyping it up are now stockpiling and intending to begin social distancing measures.

It just doesn't feel real to be honest, I feel like I am in a bad dream.

Livelovelife35 · 13/03/2020 15:45

Worried slightly I know I shouldn't be as I've not been near anyone that has been really ill and been practicing good hand hygiene etc
Still when I'm clearing my throat and waking up with a kind of mucas cough sort of worried me slightly

HairyFloppins · 13/03/2020 15:45

Been worried about it since January. Some days are better than others.

TooTrueToBeGood · 13/03/2020 15:46

I'm more worried by the panic of others than by the virus itself TBH. I have a large family network with quite a few loved ones that full into higher risk categories. We'll just have to deal with whatever comes of the virus. To go into the shops though and see bare shelves and listen to the incessant fear mongering is doing my head in.

My daughter works in a supermarket and had to console a distraught pensioner today who just wanted a roll of toilet paper and hadn't been able to find any anywhere. An old person denied the basic dignity of being able to wipe her arse because of fucking idiots running around like headless chickens.

keepingbees · 13/03/2020 15:47

It's worrying but I'm not stressing over it.
I'm finding the media frenzy and panic buying is making me feel more anxious than the actual issue.

Notonmyshift · 13/03/2020 15:48

I'm worried for my friends that are worried ( iyswim)
I work in a public facing roll and I'm quite worried about jobs if people stop coming out.
I've just kind of resigned myself to a tough few months and then hopefully the worse will have past.

daisypond · 13/03/2020 15:48

Very, as my hospital has closed all elective surgeries and all appointments due to the number of Coronavirus cases they are treating. They are overwhelmed.

DitheringDoris · 13/03/2020 15:51

I am worried, it’s fear of the unknown. It feels like we are sitting on a ticking timebomb waiting for it to explode. I’m not seeing much Blitz spirit on some of today’s threads. It’s so depressing.

TedsFederationRep · 13/03/2020 15:52

Like others, worried but not stressed about it. I did some practical things today - like putting together a "grab bag" of essentials in case either of us has to self-isolate - and feel better prepared. That helped.

jaspercatx · 13/03/2020 15:52

I am really worried, not for me, but my Mum, Dad and partner. Mum and Dad both have underlying health issues and I live very far away from them. My partner has developed a cough and I am scared for her! I had the mentality that it was just a flu and didnt understand the panic but now I've read too far into the media and scared myself Sad

MyBabyBoyBlue · 13/03/2020 15:52

I am on the anxious side anyway and have been worried about this since Jan. The media are being incredibly irresponsible in their coverage of the virus and I've found that deleting all my News apps has helped my anxiety. The constant updates and scary headlines were not helping! But, as my DH says, other than taking extra care of your personal hygiene and behaving responsibly with regard to self-isolation and not depriving others of staples like soap, loo roll, cleaning products, painkillers and medicines, pastas rice, etc (all of which have been sold out in my local supermarket for more than a week), there is little else we can do to protect ourselves.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/03/2020 15:53

I’m very worried about my business being closed and not being about to work for weeks on end. If I don’t work, I don’t have an income. And insurers have confirmed they won’t be paying out....

Bagelsandbrie · 13/03/2020 15:55

On the one hand I am absolutely terrified as I have chronic health conditions (autoimmune) and will probably really suffer with it and possibly have complications. On the other hand I am bored of the whole thing now and think it’s not worth worrying about as if I get it I get it, it’s out there all over the place now. Younger people don’t give a flying shit about passing it on (I have a 17 year old dd who is sensible but her friends / peers tell me all I need to know about how selfish people can be)! So I just think keep calm and carry on. Could get hit by a car tomorrow. One day at a time.

I am mostly worried about my 7 year old disabled Ds - not so much for him getting it but me being too unwell to care for him. Sad
